Rockstar’s recommended PC specifications are a compatibility baseline, not a promise of 100 frames per second (FPS). The available published benchmarks are from the game’s 2019 PC launch period, so they offer useful context—not a current shortlist of graphics cards or a guarantee that a particular PC will exceed 100 FPS.
What PC do you need to run RDR2 above 100 FPS?
There is no single graphics card or PC specification that guarantees more than 100 FPS at every resolution and graphics setting. Performance depends heavily on the GPU, the resolution, the options you enable, and how FPS is measured. A PC that clears 100 FPS at 1080p with tuned settings may not do so at 1440p or 4K, or with more demanding effects enabled.
Rockstar’s official requirements, last updated April 30, 2024, list these minimum and recommended specifications. Neither tier names a target frame rate:
| Tier | Processor | Memory | Graphics card | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum | Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-6300 | 8 GB | GeForce GTX 770 2 GB or Radeon R9 280 3 GB | 150 GB |
| Recommended | Intel Core i7-4770K or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X | 12 GB | GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB or Radeon RX 480 4 GB | 150 GB |
These are Rockstar’s published requirements for running the game, not evidence that either tier delivers a particular FPS. The support page also notes that requirements may change as the game receives downloadable content or programming changes. Rockstar’s RDR2 PC system requirements.

How resolution and settings change the GPU you should choose
Published launch-era results show why a GPU recommendation must include its test conditions. NVIDIA’s 2019 guidance used RDR2’s built-in benchmark; TechSpot’s independent 2019 test used a specific gameplay scene and manually configured settings. Their figures are historical results for the named cards, not predictions for current graphics cards.
| Source and test conditions | Reported result | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| NVIDIA, 2019; built-in benchmark; 1080p High | GeForce RTX 2060: 60+ FPS | A 60-FPS vendor result is not a 100-FPS recommendation. |
| NVIDIA, 2019; built-in benchmark; 1440p High | GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER: over 60 FPS | Do not assume a result at 1080p applies at 1440p. |
| NVIDIA, 2019; high-fidelity 4K | GeForce RTX 2080 Ti: 60 FPS | NVIDIA also described upscaling from lower render resolutions as an option for High settings; this is not the same as native 4K rendering. |
| TechSpot, 2019; 1080p, manually configured High options, DX12, in-game Colter scene; Core i9-9900K overclocked to 5 GHz and 16 GB DDR4-3400 | GeForce RTX 2080 Ti: over 100 FPS in that test | This result applies to TechSpot’s setup and scene, not to every PC or the entire game. |
| TechSpot, 2019; 1440p, manually configured settings below maximum quality | Vega 64, RTX 2060 Super, or RTX 2070 class: averages around 60 FPS | These near-60-FPS averages illustrate the performance cost of raising resolution; they do not establish a 100-FPS configuration. |
See NVIDIA’s launch-era GPU guidance and TechSpot’s RDR2 benchmark. Because the results use different settings and methods, they are context rather than a direct head-to-head comparison. They also do not establish which contemporary GPU or prebuilt PC will meet your target.

How to compare gaming PCs for your target
Use the same checklist for every candidate. A listing that names only a processor or says “gaming PC” does not give enough information to judge RDR2 performance.
- Resolution: Decide whether you want 1080p, 1440p, or 4K. Compare results at that resolution; performance figures from another resolution are not interchangeable.
- Graphics card and VRAM: Record the exact GPU model and its video-memory capacity. The historical RDR2 results above vary with GPU and resolution.
- Image quality: Check whether the result uses a preset or manually selected options. Presets can configure options differently by GPU, so a label such as “High” alone may not fully describe a test.
- FPS statistic and scene: Look for average, minimum, or peak FPS, and whether the figure comes from the built-in benchmark or a repeatable gameplay scene. A peak is not an average, and neither establishes the minimum you will see throughout play.
- Upscaling and graphics API: Note whether upscaling is enabled and which API is used. A result with upscaling is not a native-resolution result; label both when comparing.
- Processor and memory: Record the exact CPU and installed RAM along with the GPU. Rockstar’s baseline requirements alone do not establish suitability for a high-FPS target.
- Price and upgrade path: Compare current verified listings and check which components can be replaced or upgraded. No current PC prices or retail models are established by the historical benchmarks here.
A high-refresh-rate monitor can display the benefit of frame rates above 100 FPS, but match its resolution to the PC you choose. A monitor does not raise the computer’s frame rate.

How to verify performance in RDR2
- Launch the game and open Settings > Graphics > Run Benchmark Test.
- Set the resolution and graphics options you actually plan to use. If comparing PCs, keep the resolution, settings, API, and upscaling conditions consistent.
- Run the built-in benchmark and note the reported performance. Treat it as a repeatable comparison for those settings, not a guarantee that every gameplay area will have identical FPS.
- If performance falls short, adjust settings and run the benchmark again. Rockstar specifically identifies MSAA, reflection quality, water quality, and volumetric quality as options to consider; their impact varies by system.
Rockstar recommends iterating through its Graphics Benchmark to find a balance between image quality and FPS. Rockstar’s RDR2 graphics performance tuning guidance.
Which graphics settings are worth checking first?
MSAA, reflections, water, and volumetrics are useful starting points when tuning, but their effect is hardware-dependent. PC Gamer’s settings analysis found reflection and volumetric quality among the larger frame-rate levers in its tests; it also measured a performance cost of more than 25% for 4x MSAA in its tested setup. That MSAA figure is specific to PC Gamer’s test, not a universal penalty. PC Gamer’s RDR2 settings and benchmark guide.

For a fair comparison, state the exact options changed rather than relying only on a preset name. Lowering a demanding option may help reach a frame-rate target, but it changes visual quality; verify the trade-off in the benchmark at your chosen resolution.

The cited GPU results date from 2019, and Rockstar’s requirements page was last updated in 2024. Together they explain how resolution, GPU choice, and settings affect performance, but they do not establish a present-day 2026 parts list, current retail prices, or a guaranteed 100+ FPS result for a specific prebuilt PC. For an actual candidate, require a result measured in RDR2 at your resolution and intended settings, then verify it with the game’s benchmark.
