For most US buyers, the standard Nintendo Switch 2 is the simplest choice: it includes the console, a dock, and Joy-Con 2 controllers for handheld, tabletop, and TV play. Choose a bundle only if you actually want its included game and membership, and buy add-ons only for a specific need. If you need more game storage, the key rule is to buy a microSD Express card—an ordinary microSD card from the original Switch cannot store or load games on Switch 2.
Start with the system that fits how you will play
The Nintendo Switch 2 is one console with three play modes, not a set of differently equipped models. The main purchase decision is whether to buy the standard system or a bundle; the next is whether your habits call for extra storage or an optional accessory.

The system has a 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution, 256GB of internal storage, and an included dock for TV play. Nintendo says some internal storage is used by the system, so the full 256GB is not available for games and other user content. Joy-Con 2 controllers attach magnetically and can function as a mouse in compatible games. The package lets you begin in handheld, tabletop, or TV mode without purchasing a separate controller or dock.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose by your actual setup
- Mostly handheld: The built-in screen and included controllers are the essentials. A TV or an additional controller is not required to start playing.
- Mostly on a television: The included dock and Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable cover the basic connection. Check that your TV supports the resolution and features you expect before treating 4K as a reason to buy.
- Tabletop or shared play: The included Joy-Con 2 pair provides the controls. Whether one pair is enough depends on the game and number of players; an extra controller is a need-based purchase, not a required system component.
What comes in the standard Nintendo Switch 2 box?
Nintendo’s standard system package includes the components below. It is enough to set up the console for its three play modes, though it does not include a game or optional accessories such as a camera or additional controller.
- Nintendo Switch 2 console
- Joy-Con 2 left and right controllers
- Joy-Con 2 Grip and two Joy-Con 2 straps
- Nintendo Switch 2 Dock
- Ultra High-Speed HDMI cable
- AC adapter
- USB-C charging cable
Nintendo announced a US suggested retail price of $449.99 for the standard system at its June 5, 2025 launch. That is the launch MSRP, not a promise about today’s retailer price or stock; check the seller for its current price and exactly what is in the box.
Is a Nintendo Switch 2 bundle worth it?
A bundle is worthwhile when its included contents match what you would have bought anyway. Compare the system, game, and any membership separately at the prices available to you, then judge the bundle against that total. A headline savings figure uses Nintendo’s suggested retail prices and may not equal the difference between the bundle and a retailer’s own prices.

Nintendo’s current US Mario Kart World bundle page describes a Switch 2 system, a digital download of the full game, and a three-month Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership. Nintendo advertises $37.98 in savings compared with its suggested retail prices for purchasing the system, game, and membership separately. The page says the offer is available while supplies last. Its included membership auto-renews after the three-month term unless canceled. These are offer terms, not a guarantee of retailer availability or a current price at every seller.
There are also later announced bundle offers to distinguish from the original launch bundle. Nintendo’s August 25, 2026 announcement priced a later Mario Kart World bundle at $549.99 and said it was expected in late September. The announcement priced a Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle at $529.99, including a system, game download, and a 90-day membership, with release scheduled for October 22, 2026. On October 13, 2026, that Sports Resort release date is still in the future; verify release status, stock, contents, and price with the retailer before buying. Nintendo’s announcement stated $27.98 in savings for Sports Resort against separate suggested retail prices.

Use this three-question bundle test
- Would you buy the included game? If not, do not count its full suggested retail price as a personal saving. For a digital bundle, also decide whether a download suits your preference for physical or digital games.
- Will you use the included membership? Nintendo says online features require internet access and a Nintendo Account. Membership availability varies by country, and the included membership renews automatically after its term unless canceled.
- Does the real price beat your alternatives? Compare the bundle with the system and desired extras at prices you can actually get from your seller. Nintendo’s stated savings are based on suggested retail prices, not every retailer’s checkout total.
Can you use your original Switch games and accessories?
Switch 2 plays compatible physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, but Nintendo notes that some titles may be unsupported or not fully compatible. Check the specific games you intend to keep playing rather than assuming every item in your library will work exactly as before.

| Original Switch item | What works on Switch 2 | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Original Joy-Con | Can pair wirelessly | Cannot attach to Switch 2. A Switch console or compatible charging accessory is needed to charge them. |
| Original Switch Pro Controller | Can pair wirelessly | Check the game and control setup you plan to use; wireless pairing does not make it a Joy-Con 2 attachment. |
| Original Nintendo Switch dock | Not compatible | Use the Switch 2 Dock included with the new system. |
| Original Switch AC adapter | Can charge Switch 2 directly | Cannot power Switch 2 in TV mode. |
| Original Joy-Con strap, Grip, charging Grip, wheel, or two-way charging stand | Nintendo marks these original accessories incompatible with Joy-Con 2 | Do not assume an accessory that fits original Joy-Con will fit Joy-Con 2. |
| Original Ring-Con or Leg Strap | Can still be used in their named games with original Joy-Con paired wirelessly | This is a specific reuse case, not general Joy-Con 2 accessory compatibility. |
The practical approach for an original Switch owner is to keep compatible items, but avoid buying a new system on the assumption that all old controllers, chargers, docks, and attachments transfer unchanged. Make a list of the games and accessories that matter to you and verify each exception before counting it as reusable.

What microSD card does Switch 2 use?
For saving or loading games on Switch 2, Nintendo supports microSD Express cards only. An ordinary microSD card—even one that stored games on the original Switch and physically fits the slot—cannot save or load games or save data on Switch 2. This format distinction is more important than a card’s capacity label or brand.
Nintendo says Switch 2 supports microSD Express cards up to 2TB. The first time you use a microSD Express card, the console requires an internet system update. Cards are sold separately. Nintendo’s US store listed a Samsung 256GB microSD Express card as an example; that listing is not a requirement to buy that brand or capacity.

Decide whether to buy storage now
- Start with internal storage if it suits your library. The console has 256GB of internal storage, with a portion reserved for system use. If you expect to keep a relatively small digital library installed, you may not need an extra card immediately.
- Add capacity when you have a concrete need. A larger digital library or a desire to keep more games installed can make extra space useful. Match the capacity to your plans rather than buying a card just because the slot is available.
- Check the package wording before checkout. It must be a microSD Express card for Switch 2 game storage. A generic microSD card or a card labeled only for the original Switch is not a substitute.
- Plan for the first-use update. Nintendo says an internet system update is needed for the first use of a microSD Express card, so account for that during setup.
An old standard microSD card still has a limited role: Nintendo says it can be used to import or view screenshots and videos. That does not make it usable for storing or loading Switch 2 games or save data.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.

Which optional accessories are worth considering?
The included Joy-Con 2 pair covers ordinary system setup and play. Optional gear makes sense when it solves a particular use case, not simply because Nintendo sells an accessory.
| Accessory | Consider it if… | Not needed just to… | Nintendo US store price shown October 9, 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Switch 2 Pro Controller | You prefer a separate full controller or your planned play setup calls for another controller | Start using the console; Joy-Con 2 are included | $89.99 |
| Switch 2 Camera | You want video chat through GameChat | Use voice chat; the console’s built-in microphone handles voice chat | $54.99 |
| Joy-Con 2 Wheel set (two wheels) | You want the wheel accessory for compatible racing play | Use Joy-Con 2 as the included controllers | $24.99 |
| Samsung 256GB microSD Express card | You need more game storage and want this listed capacity | Store Switch 2 games on an ordinary microSD card | $59.99 |
These are prices displayed on Nintendo’s US product page on October 9, 2026, not fixed prices. They can change, and another retailer may charge a different amount. The camera is specifically relevant to video chat: Nintendo says a compatible USB camera enables video chat through GameChat, while the built-in microphone handles voice chat.
Buy the camera for video, not for basic chat
If your goal is to see other participants during GameChat, a compatible USB camera is the relevant purchase. If you only need voice chat, Nintendo says the built-in microphone handles that. A camera is listed separately, so do not assume it comes in the standard system box or a game bundle unless that particular package says so.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesBuy a second controller for the way you play
The base package already includes Joy-Con 2. A Switch 2 Pro Controller is an optional choice for someone who wants a separate full controller; another controller may also suit a multiplayer setup, depending on the game and the number of players. Check a game’s controller requirements before buying equipment for a particular session.
Buy the wheel set only for compatible racing play
Nintendo lists a two-wheel Joy-Con 2 set. It is a niche add-on for players who want the wheel accessory in compatible racing games, not a replacement for the included Joy-Con 2 or a general requirement for racing games.
A practical buying sequence
- Choose the system package. Decide whether the standard system or a bundle makes sense after checking the game, membership term, format, current price, and availability for the exact offer.
- Confirm your play setup. The standard package includes the Switch 2 Dock and Joy-Con 2. Add another controller only if your preferred controls or multiplayer plans call for it.
- Check the games and gear you already own. Verify support for important Switch games and check the specific compatibility limits for controllers, chargers, docks, and attachments.
- Estimate storage needs. Start with the 256GB internal capacity if it suits your plans. If you need more space for games, choose microSD Express; do not buy standard microSD for that purpose.
- Add only use-case accessories. Consider the camera for video chat, a Pro Controller for a separate controller setup, or the wheel set for compatible racing play.
- Recheck volatile details at checkout. Bundle prices, offer terms, release status, and store accessory prices can change. Confirm the current listing and what is included before paying.
What Nintendo’s specifications do—and do not—settle
Nintendo describes Switch 2 as the next step in at-home gaming that can be taken on the go, reflecting its own product perspective. The concrete purchase facts are more useful for comparing your options: included hardware, 7.9-inch 1080p screen, 256GB internal storage, compatible docked output up to 4K in supported games and displays, and the specified accessory compatibility. None of those specifications establishes that a particular bundle is the best value for every buyer; that depends on whether you want its contents and on the price available to you.
