- How much freedom do you want to choose your route? A world that lets you explore elsewhere can offer a different way through a roadblock than a more guided sequence. Confirm the specific game’s structure before relying on this.
- Do you need particular accessibility options? Check controls, camera behavior, visual options, and whether settings can be adjusted independently. Microsoft’s Xbox Accessibility Guideline 108 cautions that “Difficulty is often thought of as ‘Easy/Normal/Hard,’ but these are broad categories that often encompass a wide set of variables.”

Choose Elden Ring if you want room to change tactics or walk away
Bandai Namco describes experimenting with weapons, magical abilities, and skills, as well as fighting directly, using stealth, or calling allies. Its guidance also points to avoiding stronger enemies, exploring for upgrades and consumables, calling Spirit Ashes where eligible, and returning to a difficult encounter later. That makes Elden Ring a reasonable fit if you want options for responding to a wall rather than relying on a conventional difficulty menu. This is a preference-based recommendation, not a claim that the game is easy.
Before buying, use the official Elden Ring page to check platform choices and edition contents. It lists physical and digital options and editions including Shadow of the Erdtree; verify that the exact edition and platform you want include the content you expect.

The available description does not justify calling it the hardest Soulslike or making claims about its build variety.
Consider Lies of P if you want an explicit difficulty setting
The Overture launch notes say the game added three difficulty levels, selectable under Settings → Gameplay → Difficulty. They also describe separately assignable dash and dodge controls, optional camera auto-rotation, and colorblind settings. Because these are patch-specific notes, verify that your version, platform, and edition include the options before choosing the game for them.

Treat Dark Souls as a starting point for further checking
Bandai Namco’s official Dark Souls page is associated with a broad description of a deeply challenging game and the importance of Bonfires. That is not enough to compare its checkpoint details, settings, or difficulty with the other games here. Look up the specific Dark Souls release you intend to play before deciding whether its mechanics suit you.
Check accessibility and the exact edition before you commit
Difficulty is not a single slider. A player may want combat adjusted while leaving puzzles or other mechanics unchanged. Microsoft’s Xbox Accessibility Guideline 108 frames difficulty as a set of variables, which is a useful way to inspect a game: look for control remapping, camera options, visual settings, and independent adjustments as well as named difficulty levels.

When a recommendation depends on a particular option, check the current patch notes and the edition for your platform. For a physical purchase, also confirm the format and included expansion on the official product page; availability and retailer listings can differ by region.

Difficulty depends on the player, preferred mechanics, build, version, and willingness to use in-game assistance. The available official descriptions support matching games to combat features and challenge-management tools, not a controlled ranking of how hard they are or how much players enjoy them. If you are uncertain, prioritize the actions you want to perform and the forms of help you are willing to use.

In a PlayStation Blog interview, FromSoftware director Hidetaka Miyazaki said, “In general, I’d like new players to feel unpressured and that they can approach the game at their pace.” That is a useful principle for choosing: look for the game whose pace and options fit yours.
