There isn’t one best WNBA team for every new fan. Would you like to attend games?
If going to games is part of the appeal, start with the closest team. The official WNBA team directory links to team profiles, rosters, schedules, and tickets. Check the current schedule and venue before making plans; team locations and venue details can change.
Whose games do you enjoy watching?
Follow a few players or teams and notice which games hold your attention. You don’t need to choose a team before you begin watching. WNBA ID lets fans select a favorite team, follow players, and get tailored content and updates; the WNBA app also supports following teams and scores, plus content and recaps. Does a team’s history or identity appeal to you?
History can help break a tie once you have a few teams in mind. The league’s history page is a place to start. For example, the Las Vegas Aces’ third championship, won over Phoenix, is one story you could explore. A title count describes past achievement, not whether a team is the right fit for you.
Check that you can watch the games you care about
League Pass offers live and on-demand games, with annual and monthly billing options on its official service page. Access varies by country and can be restricted in local team markets. In the United States, games carried nationally on the listed broadcast platforms are not available live on League Pass, though they are available the following day. Check the specific game and your location before subscribing.

The league’s 2026 broadcast announcement listed 216 nationally distributed games and named ABC/ESPN, Prime Video, CBS Sports/Paramount+, ION, NBC/Peacock/NBCSN, USA Network, and NBA TV among its distribution partners. That gives you several possible ways to watch, but the right option depends on the game and where you are. Consult the 2026 broadcast announcement and the game’s current listing.
Try a few teams before settling on one
- Make a short list. Include a nearby team if attending games matters, plus any teams or players you’re curious about.
- Follow them. Use WNBA ID or the app to keep up with teams, players, scores, and recaps.
- Watch several games. Sample games from more than one team rather than deciding from a single result or highlight.
- Choose the team you keep wanting to watch. If you remain torn, use local access, history, or viewing availability as a tie-breaker.
This is simply a way to explore; there’s no league rule requiring a fan to support only one team.

Keep the 2026 league—and future changes—in view
The official directory lists 15 teams for 2026. Toronto Tempo and Portland Fire joined that season, and each team was scheduled for 44 regular-season games. Those facts describe the league’s size and schedule, not which team is best for a particular fan.
Some future franchise plans are already announced, but markets and venues are time-sensitive. The league says approved expansion teams in Cleveland, Detroit, and Philadelphia are planned to begin play in 2028, 2029, and 2030. NBA Communications reported that the Connecticut Sun are planned to relocate to Houston in 2027, with Mohegan Sun Arena remaining the team’s home for the 2026 season.
