The US PlayStation Store lists a PS5 edition of Gran Turismo 7, while the official Forza Motorsport listing shows Xbox and PC platforms and does not list PS5. That platform difference settles the practical choice unless you also have compatible Xbox or PC hardware.
For PS5 owners, the remaining decision is whether Gran Turismo 7’s collection-focused solo loop, organized online racing and console-specific features match what you want from a simulator-style racer. Forza Motorsport becomes relevant only when you can play on one of its listed platforms.

Start with the platform question
Before comparing cars, tracks or driving systems, check whether each game runs on the hardware you actually have. The PlayStation Store’s US listing identifies Gran Turismo 7 as a PS5 title. The official Xbox Forza Motorsport page presents Xbox and PC options and does not show a PS5 version. On a PS5-only setup, this is not a close comparison: Gran Turismo 7 is the available choice between the two.

What a PS5-only buyer should do
- Open your regional PlayStation Store and search for Gran Turismo 7.
- Confirm that the product page labels the edition for PS5 and shows the edition you intend to purchase.
- Check the current price, taxes, promotions and any required online-service terms in your region.
- Do not purchase Forza Motorsport expecting a native PS5 download. Its official listing checked for this guide does not include PS5.
What Gran Turismo 7 offers on PS5
Gran Turismo 7 is presented by PlayStation as both a driving simulator and a long-term car-collection game. Its store description says the game includes more than 400 cars from day one and more than 90 track routes, with dynamic weather conditions. Those are the publisher’s figures as displayed on the product page, not an independently audited, same-date comparison with Forza Motorsport.
A collection and tuning loop
The listed GT Simulation Mode is built around acquiring cars, tuning them, racing them and selling them. That gives a solo player a repeating set of decisions: which car to buy, how much to spend on upgrades, where to race it and whether to keep or sell it. The description emphasizes ownership and preparation rather than a single short sequence of events.
This structure suits players who enjoy gradually building a garage and changing a car for different events. It is less useful to someone who wants a simple pick-up-and-race menu with no interest in collecting or tuning. The official material does not establish how quickly cars or upgrades are earned, how difficult individual events are, or how satisfying progression feels, so those are personal questions rather than settled advantages.

The current Gran Turismo product page lists 41 locations and 121 unique layouts, noting that content has been added through updates. That count is different from the PlayStation Store wording of more than 90 track routes. A location, layout and route are not interchangeable labels, so do not add the figures together or treat them as a direct measurement of another game’s track count.

Where Forza Motorsport fits
Forza Motorsport is relevant to this comparison when you have an Xbox or a Windows PC that meets the game’s requirements. The Xbox product page describes more than 500 real cars and 20 world-famous tracks. It does not list PS5 among its platform options.
The larger car number should not be read as proof that Forza has more usable racing content overall. Gran Turismo 7’s store copy counts cars and track routes, while Forza’s page counts cars and tracks. The publishers are using different categories, and the pages were not presented as a controlled, same-date comparison.
If you own more than one platform
With access to both a PS5 and an Xbox or PC, platform eligibility stops being the deciding factor. You can then choose based on the type of solo loop, the online formats you prefer and whether PS5-specific display, controller or VR features matter to you. The official descriptions do not prove which game has better handling, force feedback, difficulty, matchmaking, service reliability or player population, so those should not be presented as objective reasons to select one.
Compare the published scope without mixing the numbers
| Question | Gran Turismo 7 | Forza Motorsport | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 availability | PS5 edition listed by the US PlayStation Store | PS5 not listed on the official Xbox product page checked | Decisive for a PS5-only owner |
| Cars | More than 400 cars from day one, according to the PlayStation Store description | More than 500 real cars, according to Xbox | Different publisher wording and reference points; not a same-date audit |
| Track figure in the store description | More than 90 track routes | 20 world-famous tracks | Routes and tracks are not equivalent units |
| Current Gran Turismo location detail | 41 locations and 121 unique layouts on the official Gran Turismo product page; content has been added through updates | Not stated in the supplied official page in the same location/layout format | Do not infer a winner from unlike counting systems |
| Solo structure | GT Simulation Mode: buy, tune, race and sell cars | Not stated here in a directly comparable format | Use your preferred loop rather than an unsupported ranking |
| Organized online features | Sport Mode, Daily Races and an annual official Online Championship are described by Gran Turismo’s official pages | Not stated here in a directly comparable format | Feature presence does not establish population or matchmaking quality |
Choose based on how you plan to play alone
Choose Gran Turismo 7 for a garage-building routine
Gran Turismo 7 is the better fit if your ideal session involves earning or selecting a car, modifying it, entering an event and deciding what belongs in your garage afterward. The official GT Simulation Mode description explicitly includes buying, tuning, racing and selling, so those activities are central to the published identity of the game.
The collection emphasis also gives you a reason to return between races. You can approach the game as a catalog of cars and circuits rather than only as a set of isolated time trials. The available information does not establish the exact order of progression, the total time required to unlock every item or whether every vehicle is equally useful, so do not buy it on the assumption that the figures guarantee a particular career pace.
Choose by event variety, not by a raw count
The published counts indicate substantial content, but they answer different questions. “More than 400 cars from day one” describes the size of the vehicle roster at launch wording on the store page. “More than 90 track routes” describes the store’s route category. The later official page’s 41 locations and 121 layouts is a current page count that includes additions through updates. These facts tell you that Gran Turismo 7 has a broad catalog, but they do not tell you which cars are best for your preferred class, how often you will revisit a layout or how much of the catalog is available at a particular point in progression.
Choose based on organized online racing
Gran Turismo 7’s named online formats
Gran Turismo 7’s official descriptions separate the solo simulation from GT Sport Mode, where players compete with others. The Gran Turismo product page also identifies Daily Races and an annual official Online Championship. These labels are useful if you want scheduled or structured competition rather than only private laps.

The descriptions establish that these formats exist; they do not establish the size of the active player base, queue times, ranking accuracy, connection quality or long-term service reliability. Those conditions can vary by region, time of day and date. Treat the named formats as a reason to investigate further, not as proof that online competition is better than Forza’s.

Questions to answer before committing to online play
- Do you want recurring Daily Races or an annual championship structure?
- Will you mostly race alone and use online events occasionally?
- Does your region’s current store and service information support the online features you want?
- Are you prepared to check current event schedules instead of assuming that a named event is always running?
Evaluate the PS5-specific features
Gran Turismo 7’s PlayStation Store listing advertises 4K and HDR with a targeted 60 frames per second, plus feedback through the DualSense adaptive triggers. The official Gran Turismo product page additionally lists haptics, 3D audio, ray tracing and full PS VR2 support. These are platform features advertised for the PS5 version, not a guarantee that every mode uses every feature in the same way.
Display and controller setup
A compatible 4K HDR television or monitor is needed to benefit from those display capabilities. The listing’s wording is “targeted” 60fps, so read it as the publisher’s performance target rather than a promise that every scene, replay or mode will hold that rate under all conditions. DualSense adaptive triggers and haptics matter most if you value tactile braking, acceleration and surface feedback; they are optional enhancements, not a requirement to play.
3D audio and ray tracing
3D audio can be used with compatible audio equipment and settings, while ray tracing is one of the rendering features identified on the official product page. The supplied descriptions do not specify which individual races, views or replay modes use ray tracing, nor do they provide a performance comparison against another game. Avoid treating the feature list as a measured image-quality or frame-rate ranking.
PS VR2
The official product page lists full PS VR2 support, with 2P Split Screen excluded from VR. VR is therefore an optional reason to choose Gran Turismo 7, not a prerequisite. You need a PS VR2 headset and the rest of the compatible console setup to use it. If two people want to race in the same room on a split screen, the stated exclusion means that particular mode is not available inside VR.

Match the choice to your hardware and priorities
| Your situation | Practical choice | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 only | Gran Turismo 7 | It has a PS5 listing; Forza Motorsport does not appear on the official Xbox listing checked. |
| PS5 plus an Xbox or capable PC | Compare the loops and features | You can access both platforms, so choose between GT7’s collection and named online formats and Forza’s Xbox/PC offering. |
| You specifically want PS VR2 | Gran Turismo 7 | The official Gran Turismo page lists PS VR2 support; 2P Split Screen is excluded from VR. |
| You care most about a large published car headline | Investigate both descriptions carefully | Forza lists more than 500 cars, while GT7 lists more than 400 from day one; the figures have different context and do not measure overall value. |
| You want a collection and tuning routine | Gran Turismo 7 is the documented match | Its GT Simulation Mode explicitly includes buying, tuning, racing and selling. |
Check edition and price at the time you buy
No reliable current price comparison is established here. Digital prices, physical editions, regional taxes, discounts and bundles can change, so use your local PlayStation Store for Gran Turismo 7 and the relevant Xbox or PC storefront for Forza Motorsport immediately before purchase.
Confirm the platform label, edition name, included content and any upgrade language. A page can show several editions with different entitlements, and a price seen in one country or on one date should not be generalized to another. If you are buying a disc, verify that your PS5 has the drive required for that format; if you are buying digitally, verify the account region and available storage before checkout.
A step-by-step decision process
- List the hardware you will actually use. Write down whether you have only a PS5 or also an Xbox or Windows PC. Do not base the choice on a platform you do not own or intend to maintain.
- Verify the live platform pages. Check your regional PlayStation listing for the PS5 edition of Gran Turismo 7 and the current Xbox or PC listing for Forza Motorsport. Availability is the first gate.
- Define your primary loop. If buying, tuning, racing and selling cars sounds appealing, GT7’s documented GT Simulation Mode aligns with that preference. If those activities are not important, do not assume the large catalog alone will create the experience you want.
- Decide whether structured online events matter. GT7’s official pages name Sport Mode, Daily Races and an annual Online Championship. Use those features as selection criteria, while recognizing that population and reliability are not established by the descriptions.
- Check your display and controller setup. For GT7, consider whether you have 4K HDR equipment and whether DualSense haptics, adaptive triggers or 3D audio are meaningful to you. The advertised 60fps is a target, not a universal guarantee.
- Decide on VR separately. Choose PS VR2 only if you already want a headset and understand that 2P Split Screen is excluded from VR. Do not treat the headset as required for the PS5 game.
- Compare the live checkout pages. Check your local price, edition, tax, promotion and delivery or download method on the date of purchase.
- Recheck before spending if the decision is delayed. Platform listings, editions and live events can change. A later check is more reliable than relying on an old screenshot or a price quoted elsewhere.
What the published information cannot settle
Official store and product pages establish platform eligibility and advertised features, but they do not provide a controlled comparison of driving feel. They do not settle which title has stronger force feedback, a more forgiving or demanding difficulty curve, more satisfying progression, a larger active population, faster matchmaking or better server reliability.
They also do not make the car and track figures directly comparable. Gran Turismo 7’s pages use “cars,” “track routes,” “locations” and “layouts” in different contexts; Forza Motorsport’s page uses “real cars” and “tracks.” A bigger number in one column is not evidence that one game has more variety for your preferred race class.
No first-hand gameplay test is being claimed here. If handling nuance, wheel support, competitive ranking or frame-rate consistency is your deciding factor, look for current, platform-specific testing rather than treating the publisher feature lists as measurements.
The practical verdict
For a reader with only a PS5, Gran Turismo 7 is the supported choice between these two games because it has a PS5 listing and Forza Motorsport does not on the official Xbox page checked. Its documented strengths for that audience are the GT Simulation Mode collection loop, named Sport Mode and Daily Races, the annual Online Championship, a large publisher-described car and route catalog, and PS5 features including DualSense feedback and optional PS VR2.
If you also own an Xbox or suitable PC, the decision becomes preference-led rather than platform-led. Compare the solo structure and online formats you want, keep the unlike content counts in context, and verify current regional editions and prices before buying.
