There is no universally best destination: use your own audience and platform analytics rather than assuming one service offers the most reach.
Start with audience and content fit
List the viewers you want to reach and where they already watch. A destination is worthwhile when its community suits your stream and you can maintain it without splitting your attention or weakening the broadcast. YouTube describes live streaming as a way to interact with an audience in real time through video and chat (YouTube Live-streaming Help).
For gaming, consider where your existing community follows you, how you plan to interact during play, and whether viewers will find the stream there. Platform choice alone does not establish likely reach or engagement; compare your own analytics where available.
Check eligibility and account readiness
YouTube
Your YouTube channel must be verified and live streaming enabled. First-time activation can take at least 24 hours, so enable it before promoting a broadcast. YouTube also says destination accounts should be active and in good standing. See its simulcasting guidance.

LinkedIn Live
LinkedIn Live is available only to eligible members and Pages. If you plan to stream there, verify access before announcing the event. LinkedIn’s content guidelines say live content is publicly visible and should suit a professional audience; they discourage promotional and prerecorded streams. The guidelines recommend streams of at least 15 minutes.
Other destinations
Check the current live-streaming requirements for every platform you are considering. Eligibility, setup steps, and policies differ and may change; do not assume that having an account automatically grants live access.

Compare destinations against practical criteria

| Interaction and format | Does the platform’s current format support the viewing and interaction experience you want? |
| Rules and discoverability | Do its content policies and discovery options justify the effort of maintaining another destination? |
Choose a production path for each destination
Destinations may connect through an encoder, a broadcast service, or a custom RTMP/RTMPS workflow. Confirm the destination’s current instructions and test the setup before the event.
YouTube simulcasting
YouTube says sufficient upload speed is critical when sending a stream to multiple destinations. Depending on your workflow, you may need each destination’s stream key and RTMP server URL. Its Help Center lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key; both apply, and these platform limits should be checked again before scheduling (YouTube Live-streaming Help).

Twitch encoder setup
Twitch assigns a unique stream key for an encoder-based stream. Treat it as a credential: Twitch warns users not to share it. Its stream-key FAQ also identifies a stable internet connection and hardware or software encoding device as setup needs.
LinkedIn custom RTMP/RTMPS
Eligible LinkedIn members and Pages can use custom RTMP or RTMPS, with an event-specific URL and key provided through Live Studio. The preparation and preview windows can differ for verified and unverified Pages, so consult LinkedIn’s current custom RTMP instructions before scheduling.

Decide whether to stream to one platform or several
One destination is simpler to configure and moderate. Simulcasting can put the same broadcast in front of audiences on multiple platforms, but it adds account checks, stream-key handling, technical capacity demands, and potentially separate chat and moderation workflows. Choose several only when those audiences justify the added work.
A multistreaming service can consolidate delivery, but it does not remove the need to check destination eligibility, connect accounts, and verify the service’s current platform support and plan requirements. YouTube notes that creators may need destination-specific keys and RTMP URLs. Livestream’s simulcast guide describes RTMP simulcasting and says its direct Facebook integration is no longer supported, recommending custom RTMP instead.

LinkedIn lists SocialLive, Streamyard, Switcher Studio, and Restream as preferred broadcasting tools (LinkedIn custom RTMP guidance). This identifies a platform relationship, not a guarantee that a tool’s features, terms, or availability have remained unchanged.
Protect the broadcast and troubleshoot before going live
- A destination is unavailable: Check live eligibility, verification, account standing, and whether activation or event setup is complete. YouTube’s initial activation may take at least 24 hours.
- The encoder cannot connect: Confirm the selected destination’s current RTMP/RTMPS address and stream key. Check for spaces or stale credentials, and regenerate or replace a key through the platform if needed.
- The stream is unstable when simulcasting: Check whether upload capacity is sufficient for all outgoing feeds. YouTube specifically identifies upload speed as critical for simulcasting.
- A stream key may have been exposed: Treat it as compromised and replace it using the destination’s account or event controls. Do not post keys in chat, screenshots, or public documents.
- The content may not suit the destination: Review the platform’s current rules and audience expectations before broadcasting; a technically successful stream can still be inappropriate for that community.
