What Dual Output does
Dual Output lets you create separate horizontal and vertical layouts and stream them simultaneously from Streamlabs Desktop. For example, you can prepare a horizontal layout for YouTube and a vertical layout for TikTok. Each canvas can use its own scene and source arrangement, so you can reposition, show, or hide elements for the format rather than simply cropping one layout for both.
The option to send both orientations to a single destination depends on the destination and the choices Streamlabs presents in the output flow. Check the available platform and orientation selections before going live; do not assume every platform accepts both formats in the same way.
Before you set it up
- Connect the account or accounts for the platforms where you intend to stream.
- Confirm that each platform account is eligible to broadcast live. Streamlabs notes that YouTube requires account verification; if verification is pending, its process may take 24 hours. Other platforms, including TikTok, may impose their own access requirements.
- Decide which destination should receive the horizontal output and which should receive the vertical output. This helps you catch a mismatched orientation before you start.
- Have your scenes and sources ready to review in both canvas previews. Elements that look well placed in one orientation may be obscured, too small, or poorly framed in the other.
Set up horizontal and vertical outputs
- Connect your streaming destination. Sign in to Streamlabs Desktop and link the platform account you plan to use. For YouTube, Streamlabs’ setup guide begins by connecting the YouTube account.
- Enable Dual Output. Open Settings > Video and turn on Enable Dual Output. Streamlabs also documents a newer control above the Sources panel, so the toggle’s location can vary by app version. If it is not in the Video settings, check above Sources in the editor.
- Review the horizontal canvas. Inspect the horizontal preview and adjust the placement, size, and visibility of sources for that layout.
- Review the vertical canvas. Switch to the vertical preview and arrange its sources independently. Use the source controls to show or hide elements on the relevant canvas where needed. Check titles, alerts, gameplay, camera framing, and other important elements at the actual proportions of the vertical layout.
- Open the output flow. Click Go Live, select the destination platform, and choose the orientation or orientations to send. Select Both when it is offered and you want that destination to receive both formats. If sending to different platforms, assign the intended orientation to each destination in the output flow.
- Check the final selections, then start. Verify the destination names and orientation assignments shown by Streamlabs before confirming the broadcast. Watch both previews as the stream starts so you can catch layout or visibility problems early.
What the free setup includes
Streamlabs describes Dual Output’s free allowance as one horizontal destination plus one vertical destination. If you want three or more destinations in total, or multiple destinations sharing the same orientation, Streamlabs says you need Streamlabs Ultra. Live Output Editing—adding or removing destinations while already live—is also described as an Ultra feature. Plan terms can change, so check Streamlabs’ current feature and plan pages before subscribing.

For a straightforward two-platform pairing, such as one vertical destination and one horizontal destination, make sure each is assigned the intended canvas. A third destination or a second destination in either orientation exceeds the stated free allowance.
Common setup problems
The Dual Output toggle is missing
Its location can differ between app versions. Look in Settings > Video, then check above the Sources panel in the editor. If neither location shows it, confirm that you are using Streamlabs Desktop and consult Streamlabs’ current support instructions for your installed version.

A platform or orientation is unavailable
Check that the destination account is connected and has permission to livestream. Platform eligibility is separate from Streamlabs configuration; a local setting cannot bypass a platform’s account requirements. For YouTube, Streamlabs says verification is required and pending verification can take 24 hours.
The vertical layout looks wrong while the horizontal one looks fine
Review the vertical canvas separately. Dual Output supports distinct layouts, so resize or reposition sources for that canvas and hide elements that do not belong there. Do not assume that correcting the horizontal scene will also fix the vertical composition.

You cannot add another destination or change destinations while live
Compare what you are trying to do with the stated plan limits: the free allowance is one destination per orientation, while three or more destinations, repeated orientations, and Live Output Editing are identified as Ultra features. Check the current terms if your account’s options differ.
