Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor Horde Siege, choose Assault for flexible mid-range objective defense, Breacher for close-range aggression, Marksman for precision at longer sightlines, or Medic for healing and revives. These are role-fit recommendations, not a strength ranking: The Coalition says there is no required squad composition, and its published class descriptions do not establish a strongest class.
Best Horde Siege class for each playstyle
| Class | Preferred engagement | Team contribution | Best fit if you are… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Assault | Mid-range | Flexible fighting and objective defense | Adaptable and interested in helping hold a position |
| Breacher | Close range | Frontline pressure | Aggressive and comfortable taking risks to close distance |
| Marksman | Longer sightlines | Precision damage and target marking | Deliberate about target selection and ranged engagements |
| Medic | Mid-range | Healing and revives | Support-oriented and attentive to teammates’ condition |
The Coalition’s July 30, 2026 multiplayer deep dive describes these four Horde Siege classes through their loadouts, combat bonuses, Tactical Gear, and progression. They are role packages, not character-skin choices. The recommendations below translate those descriptions into playstyle fits; they are not based on class win rates or comparative performance testing.

Assault: flexible fighting and holding objectives
Assault centers on mid-range weapons and flexibility. Its Sonic Disruptor can stun incoming enemy waves, particularly when defending an objective, and the class gains a damage boost while in cover. Pick Assault if you want a class that can adapt to engagements while helping protect a position.
Breacher: close-range frontline pressure
Breacher is built around close-range damage. Its Adrenaline Injector refills health and reduces damage, supporting high-risk pushes; the class also has improved resistance to status effects and melee damage. Choose it if you enjoy closing the gap and taking the fight to enemies rather than holding a distant angle.

- AN ORIGIN STORY BEGINS — Fight alongside Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago in the gripping origin story of Emergence Day, as the Locust Horde erupts from below.
- A DARKER, GRITTIER THREAT — Face reimagined enemies and a terrifying underground invasion that restores the fear, dread, and intensity at the heart of the Gears of War series.
- MULTIPLAYER EVOLVED — Battle in Horde Siege for large‑scale PvE action or prove your skill in refined Versus PvP with greater precision and competitive depth.
- CLASSIC COMBAT, MODERNIZED — Experience signature cover‑based gameplay enhanced with updated movement, traversal, and controls that feel like Gears while playing like something new.
- CO‑OP YOUR WAY — Play online with up to four players across Campaign, Horde Siege, and Versus, or team up locally with 2‑player split‑screen co‑op on console.
Marksman: precision at longer sightlines
Marksman focuses on precision damage and receives improved critical-hit damage. Its Pulse Drone can tag Locust units for you and your squad. It suits players who prefer to select targets carefully, engage from range, and help teammates identify threats.
Medic: keeping the squad in the fight
Medic is a mid-range revive specialist that can still contribute in combat. Its Stim Vaporizer heals and revives nearby Gears, including downed soldiers from other squads, and the class regenerates health faster. Choose Medic if you regularly track teammate status and want your main contribution to be recovery and support.

Match your mission to your session and preferred fight
Class fit is only one part of the choice: Horde Siege offers mission formats with different lengths and rhythms. The durations below are The Coalition’s published usual estimates, not guarantees.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →| Playlist | Published format | Usual duration | Consider it if you prefer… |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blitz | One or two objectives in a shorter mission | About 15–20 minutes | A short objective run |
| Siege | Multiple objectives with more traversal | About 20–40 minutes | Moving through a longer multi-objective mission |
| Horde | A tougher ten-wave holdout in one area | About 50–60 minutes | Staying in one place for a sustained defense |
Assault’s wave-stunning tool and cover damage bonus naturally suit holding an objective, while Breacher’s close-range kit fits players who want to press forward. Marksman’s target marking can help when identifying threats matters, and Medic’s healing and revives support squads that need recovery during a fight. These are practical connections between official class descriptions and mission preferences, not claims that a class is required for a playlist.

Build a squad around preferences, not a mandatory formula
The Coalition says: “While our classes are meant to complement one another; there is no ‘right’ way to set up a squad.” It explicitly allows four Breachers, so you do not need one of every class. A mixed squad can bring several kinds of utility; a group of players sharing one class can instead lean into a common approach. Choose what fits the mission and the people playing it, then change classes when a different role sounds more enjoyable.
Keep this advice scoped to Horde Siege
The four class identities apply to Horde Siege. In Versus, players start with the same loadout weapons and equipment, and Weapon Mods are not used; The Coalition describes Versus as centered on skill, teamwork, map control, and power-weapon decisions. Do not treat a Horde class recommendation as a Versus build guide.

- This renewed game has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
Across Campaign, Horde, and Versus, The Coalition describes reading the combat space and moving cover to cover as central to Gears combat in its July 31, 2026 gameplay update. That is shared combat context, not evidence that Horde classes are selectable in Campaign. Weapon customization is shared across Horde classes, so switching classes does not require rebuilding weapon mods from scratch.
Account for class progression and changing balance
The Coalition’s July 2026 launch description gives each class 30 progression levels. Completing missions earns Class XP; progression unlocks include weapons, equipment, Armor Mods, Tactical Gear Mods, and Weapon Mods, and class level affects which Horde Siege difficulties are available. The developer recommends taking on higher difficulties at higher class levels, so consider progression and squad readiness as well as preferred playstyle when setting difficulty.

- Listen up, soldier. The world is in ruin. The Locust Horde has risen. It’s Human vs Horde, and here’s your mission: Pick a side, build a powerful deck, and win the war. The fate of the world is in your hands!
- Experience the gritty gunplay of the video game in this official two-player card game. Take command of the COG forces or the Locust horde and seize control of the battlefield, one chapter at a time.
- Strategise your way through each chapter, bolstering your forces with classic characters like Marcus Fenix, General Raam, August “Cole Train” Cole, Dominic Santiago, and Damon Baird.
- Every battle counts. Whatever happens in each chapter will change what comes next, so you’d better be ready to dominate. The deck you build and decisions you make will change the way you play each campaign, making this a game you can reload time and time again.
- Whether you're a hardened vet or a grass-green rookie, get ready to take cover and lay down suppressive fire. Your enemies are trying to take the line, soldier. You’d better shove back hard.
The deep dive describes four classes at launch and says more were planned in seasonal updates. Class details and balance can change: The Coalition said in its October 2026 launch-season update that it would monitor player telemetry and feedback to guide tuning. The available official descriptions do not provide comparative win rates or establish an objectively best-performing class, so any future balance changes may alter how the roles feel.
