Rockstar lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms and gives November 19, 2026 as the release date; it also describes the game as playing best on PS5, a platform statement rather than a published display-performance comparison.
What is confirmed about GTA 6 and displays?
Rockstar’s GTA VI page lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S and a November 19, 2026 release date. Rockstar’s platform and editions information, last updated August 18, 2026, also lists those platforms and says the physical version will contain a download code rather than a disc.
The official materials reviewed do not announce GTA 6’s console resolution, frame rate, graphics modes, or a monitor refresh-rate target. That means a 4K screen, 120 Hz panel, or specific response time should be treated as a preference for your broader setup—not a GTA 6 requirement. Sony has said the game will play best on PS5 by using immersive PS5 features, including DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers and Tempest 3D AudioTech; that is Sony’s promotional positioning, not evidence of higher resolution or frame rate on PS5.
What monitor should you get for GTA 6?
Start with your console and setup, then weigh resolution, refresh rate, HDR, size, and price. A more expensive specification only makes sense if you value it for your viewing distance or other games as well.

Check console and input compatibility first
GTA 6 is announced for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Check the exact monitor model’s inputs and supported display modes against your console and the features you want to use. Do not assume that two monitors with similar headline specifications support the same modes or connections; confirm them in the manufacturer’s specifications.
Match screen size and resolution to your viewing distance
A larger screen or higher resolution may suit your preferences, but neither is established as necessary for GTA 6. Consider how far you sit from the screen, how much desk or room space you have, and what you can comfortably spend. If the monitor will also serve a PC or other games, include those uses in the decision rather than buying around an unannounced GTA 6 target.

Treat refresh rate as a general-use feature
A higher refresh rate can matter for other games and general system use, but Rockstar has not stated whether GTA 6 will run at 120 fps or use a particular refresh rate on console. Buy a faster monitor because it benefits your wider gaming use—not because a GTA 6 performance mode has been confirmed.
Look beyond the HDR label
Rockstar’s HDR guidance covers computer monitors as well as TVs, but the presence of an HDR label alone does not establish how good a particular monitor’s HDR will look. Verify the model’s specific HDR support and settings in its manufacturer documentation before comparing options.

How to check HDR and HDMI setup
Rockstar Support’s HDR troubleshooting guidance, last updated August 25, 2026, recommends checking both the display and the connection. It advises confirming that HDR is supported and enabled, checking HDMI 2.1 cable support, using Game Mode if available, disabling picture enhancements and Dynamic Tone Mapping when enabled, and enabling HGIG if the display supports it. Menu names and available options vary by manufacturer.
- Check the monitor’s manual or manufacturer specifications to confirm HDR support, then enable HDR in the display’s settings.
- Check whether your HDMI cable supports HDMI 2.1. This is a compatibility check, not a recommendation to replace a cable that already supports the connection your setup needs.
- If available, enable Game Mode. Rockstar also advises disabling picture enhancement features and Dynamic Tone Mapping when enabled, and enabling HGIG if supported.
- If you cannot find a setting or its name differs, consult the monitor manufacturer’s instructions; Rockstar directs users to manufacturers for model-specific settings and terminology.
Do you need a 4K monitor, or will GTA 6 run at 120 fps?
Neither question has a confirmed answer in the official materials reviewed: they do not specify GTA 6’s console resolution or frame rate. A 4K monitor may be your preferred choice, and a high-refresh-rate monitor may suit other games, but there is no published basis here for requiring either specifically for GTA 6. Recheck official platform and performance details closer to release, as they may change.

A practical buying rule
Choose a monitor that works with your PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, fits your space and viewing distance, and offers features you will use across your games. Pay more for higher resolution, refresh rate, or HDR only when those features match your own priorities—not on the assumption that GTA 6 requires them.
