There is no single best Z Ability or Equipment set for every Dragon Ball Legends team. Choose your battle mode and intended fighters first, then match Z Ability targets to those characters and equip each wearer with items they can use. Check the current in-game details before committing resources: ability effects, eligibility, and mode rules can vary.
How to choose Z Abilities
Build around the characters you plan to use and the targets written in each Z Ability. A character can contribute useful party support without being selected for battle, but only characters who meet that ability’s stated requirements receive its effect.
1. Choose the mode and battle members
Start with the battle mode, then decide which three characters you expect to deploy. Fill the remaining party slots with characters whose abilities support those fighters. Party rules differ by mode, so a formation that works in one mode may not be valid or equally useful in another.
2. Match the ability’s target text
Inspect each ability’s target Tags and any other conditions rather than assuming it applies to the whole party. The game’s beginner party-building event uses a Saiyan team as an example: “For a Saiyan party, you’ll mainly use characters with Z Abilities that apply to characters who are "Tag: Saiyan".” The event also teaches players to filter characters by Tag, open character details, and inspect the Ability tab. Dragon Ball Legends Management Team, beginner party-building event notice (May 13, 2026).

3. Count support characters’ contributions
Ordinary Z Abilities apply to relevant party members even when their source character is not deployed. That lets a support character contribute an ability while the three selected battle members fight. Confirm the effect is active on the party formation screen. Dragon Ball Legends Characters Help.
4. Check stars and special ability mechanics
Some Z Abilities improve at specified Limit Break thresholds, including ★3, ★6, and ★7 or higher. Compare the displayed effect at each character’s current star level instead of treating two characters with the same ability label as interchangeable. Zenkai, ULTRA, Assault Z, and Support Z are separate mechanics with their own conditions and affected members; use the character details and mode-specific help to establish how each one works. 5. Use the Leader Bonus only in modes that support it
In regular modes and Super Space-Time Rush, a participating Leader receives the Z Ability effects of all party members, and all party members receive the Leader’s effects. Co-op/Raid, Tournament of Power, and Guild Battle have no Leader slot, according to the game’s party help. Characters Help: Parties and Leader Bonus.
How to choose Equipment
Equipment effects apply to the character wearing the item, not the whole party. Each party character can equip up to three different Equipment items, provided that character meets each item’s conditions. Dragon Ball Legends Items Help.

1. Check eligibility first
Inspect an item’s conditions before comparing its strength. Requirements can include a particular element, character Tags, or Limit Break level; an item that looks powerful is not an option if the intended wearer does not qualify. Awakened Equipment may offer stronger abilities but can have stricter conditions, and some modes restrict its use. Review the item and mode rules before spending materials. About Equipment (August 26, 2026).
2. Match effects to the individual wearer
Choose effects that complement the wearer’s role and address what that character needs. Compare the item’s actual effect text and slot values rather than choosing by rank alone. Slot colors indicate relative ability strength, while an Equipment rank combines the strength of its abilities; the game advises judging strength after upgrading. Platinum Equipment has fixed values and cannot be upgraded. About Equipment (August 26, 2026).

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
3. Account for improvement costs
A rank is a useful comparison signal, not a substitute for reading the effects. Consider the improvement or awakening resources required as well as the result for the intended wearer. Because awakened items can have different eligibility and mode restrictions, check those details before investing.
4. Treat recommendations as a starting point
Recommended Equipment is based on items used by players at high Battle Rank when usage data is available. For a character with little Rating Match use, the game instead displays all Equipment that character can use. Recommended Allies follows a similar usage-based approach and fallback, so a suggestion is informative rather than a guarantee of the best fit for your team. Dragon Ball Legends Characters Help.

A practical way to compare valid builds
When multiple choices meet the requirements, compare them in this order:
- Ability coverage: Which of your intended fighters meet each Z Ability’s target and conditions?
- Ability strength: What effect does each source character provide at its current Limit Break, including any other activation requirement?
- Mode fit: Does the mode have a Leader slot, special party rules, or Equipment restrictions?
- Equipment fit: Do the wearer’s eligible items provide suitable effects, and are their slot values and improvement costs worthwhile?
- Recommendation context: Is an in-game suggestion based on high-rank usage, or is it a fallback shown because use data is limited?
Where to check details in-game
For party abilities
Use the party-building guidance to filter by Tag, inspect the Ability tab in character details, and verify on the formation screen that the intended abilities are applying. The beginner event demonstrates this process with Saiyan, Lineage of Evil, and Sagas From the Movies parties. Start Off Right With ‘Let’s Go, Legends!’.
For Equipment
Open the Equipment Archive to review ability effects, equip conditions, and acquisition sources. Its “How to Get” information lists stories by greatest chance to obtain the item. Dragon Ball Legends Items Help.
What “best” means for your team
The best setup is the one that supports your chosen fighters under the rules of the mode you are playing: Z Abilities cover the right characters at their actual strength, and each wearer has eligible Equipment with useful effects. A displayed rank or recommendation can help narrow choices, but neither replaces checking ability targets, item conditions, and the current mode’s rules.
