CurseForge’s documented workflow does not include a one-click way to merge two complete modpacks. Instead, choose one pack as the base—or create a custom profile—and add compatible content from the other pack. Check Minecraft version and modloader compatibility first; importing a pack’s ZIP creates a separate profile rather than combining it with an existing one.
Choose how to build the combined profile
Use an existing pack as the base if you want to keep most of its setup. Choose a new custom profile if you want to select the Minecraft version and modloader yourself and assemble the contents from the start. CurseForge describes profiles as collections of settings and files needed to launch a modded instance, not as mergeable bundles.

Check compatibility before adding mods
The destination profile and each mod need to match on Minecraft version and modloader. CurseForge lists Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, and Quilt as modloader choices, but support depends on the particular mod and version. If the profile is incompatible, it may not be available for the installation. Check the version and loader shown for each desired mod rather than assuming that two packs can be combined because both launch Minecraft.

Add content to the destination profile
For an installed modpack
- In CurseForge, open the installed modpack’s profile and select Profile Options.
- Enable Allow content management.
- Use Add More Content to find and install compatible mods. You can also toggle installed mods as needed.
- When CurseForge warns that the profile already includes a selected mod, review the existing and incoming versions before proceeding. Installing the duplicate can override the existing mod; it does not combine two versions into one.
While content management is enabled, you cannot update the modpack or change to another version. If you later disable content management and update the pack, your custom changes may be overwritten. Keep a backup of the profile’s important files before manual changes, and preserve worlds separately before testing a combined setup.

For a new custom profile
- Create a custom profile and select the intended Minecraft version and modloader.
- Add the compatible mods you want from each pack, checking the version and loader for every selection.
- Review duplicates and decide which single compatible version to keep.
Adding mods is not the same as merging every part of two packs. Configurations and gameplay systems may interact in ways that compatibility labels alone do not establish, so launch and test the profile before relying on it for a world you care about.
Why importing a pack is not merging it
CurseForge’s Import flow is for creating a profile from a supported exported ZIP; it does not add that ZIP’s contents to an existing profile. CurseForge Support says, “The feature works only with modpacks/custom profiles that match CurseForge’s export structure.” The Sharing Modpacks/Custom Profiles guide also says a profile code remains valid for 7 days (guide modified July 7, 2026). Use export/import to transfer or preserve a profile, not to combine two profiles.

Private sharing and public submission are different
If you want to share the result with a friend, use the profile-sharing or export options described in CurseForge’s sharing guide. Publicly submitting a project follows separate packaging rules: the submission ZIP needs a manifest.json at its root and an overrides folder. CurseForge-hosted mods should be referenced in the manifest rather than included directly in the ZIP; other required files may go under overrides.
