In the announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 DMZ, a foot infil is best treated as a low-profile opening, not a guaranteed advantage. Use the first moments to identify your objective, read the surrounding terrain and exits, then choose whether to move, fight or disengage according to the value of the run. Activision’s published description confirms quiet on-foot deployment, but it does not yet publish exact foot-spawn locations, encounter timers or a tested opening route.
The mode is scheduled for eligible digital-preorder early access on October 20, 2026, with the full game listed for October 23. As of October 16, no live foot-spawn strategy can honestly be presented as tested. The framework below separates confirmed systems from practical tactics that should be validated after launch.

What a foot infil means in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ
Activision describes DMZ as an extraction operation in which Operators pursue objectives, collect valuable loot, contend with AI forces and rival Operators, and leave with rewards. Its official overview presents two broad deployment styles: “Go in quiet on foot, or fast and loud in a helicopter or large plane.” The June 6, 2026 DMZ overview establishes the contrast as profile and noise, not as a measured difference in survival rate or combat power.

That distinction matters. A quiet entry can reduce the attention you attract while you establish bearings, but it does not prove that nearby squads or AI are absent. The game’s published material also says loot is placed according to location and strategic value, so the best route depends on what your operation requires rather than on a universal “safest” opening.

Prepare the run at the Forward Operating Base
The FOB is the correct place to decide what success means before you load into the exclusion zone. The official FOB guide identifies DMZ Orders, stash and loadout management, and a Firing Range as preparation systems. Use each for a specific decision instead of entering with an undefined plan.
Read the selected Orders
Start with the Orders attached to the operation. An Order can make a particular task, resource or destination more important than incidental loot. Define one primary success condition before deployment:
- Task run: complete the listed objective, even if that means leaving with modest loot.
- Resource run: prioritize a required item or category and avoid detours that increase exposure.
- Extraction run: preserve the operator and leave safely once the minimum requirement is met.
This definition controls your later engagement decisions. If the primary condition is complete, a fight for optional loot is a choice, not an obligation.

Use the FOB’s stash and loadout stations to bring equipment that supports the chosen Order. The published guide does not specify a best weapon, optic or foot-infiltration build, so there is no evidence-based universal setup to copy. Instead, check that the weapons and equipment you select are usable at the ranges and distances you expect to cross, and that losing the kit would not make the next run impossible.
Test weapons in the Firing Range
The Firing Range is identified as the FOB station for weapon testing and aim practice. Use it to confirm recoil control, sight picture and the behavior of any weapon you intend to carry. This is preparation, not a promise that a particular build is optimal; the official material gives no foot-spawn loadout ranking.

The first minutes after a foot deployment
Exact spawn pressure and sightlines have not been published. The sequence below is therefore a disciplined opening framework, not a claim that every map or match follows the same timing.
1. Pause long enough to orient
Do not commit to a long sprint the instant control begins. Establish which direction you are facing, identify nearby cover and determine where the Order points you. A quiet entrance is useful only if it gives you time to make a better decision; rushing blindly throws that benefit away.
2. Locate the objective and possible exits
Check the objective location and the routes that could eventually lead you out. Extraction is part of the mode’s stated purpose, so an entry path that has no plausible exit is a risk even when it looks short. Keep more than one departure direction in mind until the game reveals how extraction works in live play.
3. Pick a route that matches the value of the run
Use terrain, buildings and other available cover to avoid exposing yourself across unnecessary open ground. If the Order is time-sensitive or requires a specific site, take the direct route only when its risk is acceptable. If the run is mainly for survival or a scarce resource, a slower path that keeps options open may be preferable. Because loot is tied to location and strategic value, route selection should follow the item or task rather than a memorized “best” line.
4. Move quietly without assuming the area is empty
On-foot deployment lowers the profile described by Activision; it does not grant immunity from AI or rival Operators. Use pauses at cover to scan and listen, and avoid turning a quiet approach into a loud, unnecessary engagement. Until live data establishes how quickly other players can reach a given area, do not rely on an invented countdown.

5. Decide whether each contact serves the Order
DMZ operations include both AI forces and rival Operators. Engage when the contact blocks the objective, threatens your extraction or offers a reward that justifies the ammunition, time and exposure. Break contact when the fight is optional and your primary goal can be completed another way. This is especially important for a resource or extraction run, where surviving with the required item is worth more than a risky elimination.
6. Reassess after every major action
After looting, completing a task or taking damage, update the plan. Ask whether the primary condition is complete, whether your route remains viable and whether the remaining kit supports another fight. A foot infil gives you a low-profile starting point; it does not require you to stay on the same route once circumstances change.
7. Leave before success turns into greed
Extraction is an explicit part of the new mode’s objective. Once the Order and any essential loot are secured, favor a clear exit plan over optional detours. The new game’s exact exfil visibility, timing and contest rules are not stated in the available official material, so treat the extraction process as a system to learn in live matches rather than importing assumptions from the older DMZ.
Foot, helicopter or large plane: choosing an entry style
The official overview gives a meaningful comparison in terms of stealth and speed/noise, but it does not provide costs, travel times, safety percentages or combat-success figures. The table therefore describes only what is established and what remains unknown.
| Deployment choice | Official framing | What it can help you do | Not established |
|---|---|---|---|
| On foot | Quiet, lower-profile entry | Orient and begin an objective without the deliberate noise of an aircraft approach | Exact spawn points, safety, encounter timing, route length and win-rate benefit |
| Helicopter | Fast and loud entry | Reach an area quickly when speed is worth the attention created by the approach | Exact flight time, cost, durability, landing rules and combat advantage |
| Large plane | Fast and loud entry | Choose a rapid deployment style when the operation favors speed over discretion | Exact timing, destination control, exposure and extraction impact |
Choose on the basis of the Order and your tolerance for risk. A player carrying a fragile objective may prefer the lower-profile option; a time-critical task may justify a louder, faster insertion. Neither choice can be ranked as universally superior from the published information.

Solo and squad adjustments
Activision says players can infil solo or with a squad. The same foot-spawn principle applies in both cases—orient, align the route with the objective and preserve an exit—but the decisions are distributed differently.
Solo
- Set a single primary condition, because you cannot cover multiple objectives at once.
- Favor routes that provide cover and more than one retreat direction.
- Break contact earlier when a fight would consume the time or equipment needed to extract.
- Keep the exit plan simple enough to execute while managing every threat yourself.
Squad
- Agree on the primary Order before deployment so one player does not pull the group toward optional loot.
- Assign observation and movement responsibilities informally: one player can watch a flank while another checks the objective path.
- Decide in advance whether the squad will disengage from an unfavorable fight or commit together.
- Keep the group close enough to support a contact without bunching everyone into one exposed position.
These are team-management recommendations, not claims about a particular squad size, revive system or communication mechanic; those details require confirmation in the released mode.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.How to make a foot spawn competitive without overcommitting
Use information as the first advantage
The practical value of a quiet start is the opportunity to gather information before announcing your position. Read the objective, inspect the available cover and note where an exit could be reached. Information only helps if it changes your route or engagement choice, so avoid scanning indefinitely when the Order demands movement.
Spend risk deliberately
Every optional fight spends resources and increases the chance that the operation ends before extraction. Classify decisions as required, useful or unnecessary. Required actions advance the Order; useful actions improve your position or secure a needed resource; unnecessary actions are fights or detours that do neither. The third category is where foot players most often surrender the benefit of a quiet opening.

Let the loadout set the engagement distance
A weapon tested in the FOB Firing Range should be used at distances and angles you can control. If the route forces a fight outside that comfort zone, change the route or disengage rather than treating the foot infil as permission to challenge every contact. No official source identifies an optimal weapon class for this mode, so the decision must follow your tested handling and the Order.

Keep an extraction threshold
Choose a point at which the run is good enough to leave: the required item collected, the task completed or the minimum safe progress achieved. This threshold prevents optional loot from replacing the actual objective. It also gives a solo player or squad a shared answer when a new contact appears near the end of the operation.
What is still unknown before launch
As of October 16, 2026, the announced mode has not reached its October 20 eligible-preorder early-access date. The official articles do not provide:
- fixed or rotating foot-spawn coordinates;
- opening encounter distances or a reliable time before another squad can arrive;
- an tested route for any named objective;
- comparative survival, extraction or win-rate statistics for foot versus aircraft entry;
- the exact visibility, timing or contest rules for extraction in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ;
- a confirmed best weapon, optic or equipment package for a foot infil.
Guides that state any of those as settled facts before live verification are making assumptions. Once the mode is playable, these are the details worth measuring across repeated matches rather than declaring from a single successful run.

The original Warzone 2.0 DMZ is useful historical context, but its mechanics are not automatically the rules of Modern Warfare 4 DMZ. Activision’s November 2022 tactical overview said Operators entered at random points around Al Mazrah, collected items and completed tasks, and attempted to escape. It also stated that death removed nonpermanent backpack items and that activating an exfil marked the point to other squads while AI combatants converged. Those facts explain why older extraction advice emphasized route planning and risk management.
They do not establish that the new game uses random foot spawns, the same backpack-loss rules, the same exfil alerts or the same AI response. Consult Activision’s November 2022 overview only as a record of the legacy mode, not as a rulebook for the unreleased one.
Release timing and preparation window
Activision’s October 9, 2026 FOB guide lists October 20, 2026 for eligible digital-preorder early access and October 23 for the game launch. It names PS5 among the platforms in its product information. Those dates describe access timing, not evidence that foot-spawn matches have already been tested. Use the period before deployment to read Orders, organize the stash and practice the weapons you intend to carry.
Foot-infiltration checklist
- Read the active DMZ Order at the FOB.
- Choose whether the run is primarily for the task, a resource or a safe extraction.
- Equip a loadout you can control and are prepared to risk.
- Test the weapons and sights in the FOB Firing Range.
- At deployment, orient before selecting a long route.
- Locate the objective, nearby cover and more than one possible exit direction.
- Move quietly, but assume AI or rival Operators may still be nearby.
- Take fights only when they advance the Order, protect the route or secure a required reward.
- Reassess after completing the objective or taking significant damage.
- Extract when the run meets its threshold instead of converting optional loot into unnecessary exposure.
How to update this strategy after launch
The first reliable post-launch improvements should come from repeated observation: record where foot deployments place players, how quickly contacts can reach those areas, which routes offer usable cover, and what extraction reveals to other squads. Compare those observations across several matches and distinguish a repeatable mechanic from a single favorable spawn. Until that evidence exists, the soundest competitive approach is disciplined information gathering and risk control, not a memorized rush or a claim that one foot location is always safe.
