Buy Spiritual Incense from Benatauk in the Anniversary Celebration area of Tanaris, use it to summon Maru’s spirit, speak with her, then return to Benatauk to complete A Whiff of Help. The quest is part of the seasonal Guest Relations tutorial tied to WoW’s 20th Anniversary event, so check that the event and quest are currently available in your game.
Quest steps
- Find Benatauk. He is in the Anniversary Celebration area in Tanaris, at coordinates 63.24, 52.37, according to the Warcraft Wiki quest listing.
- Buy Spiritual Incense. Speak with Benatauk and purchase the item; it is the required quest item, not a real-world item. See the Wowhead quest page.
- Use the incense and speak with Maru. Activate Spiritual Incense, then talk to Maru’s spirit when she appears. This is the interaction that advances the objective, as described in the Wowhead 20th Anniversary Guest Relations guide.
- Return to Benatauk. Talk to him again to turn in the quest and complete it, as shown in the Warcraft Tavern Guest Relations guide.
Prerequisite and event availability
A Whiff of Help follows Thoughtful Pursuits in the Guest Relations tutorial sequence. The tutorials introduce the event’s secret-solving basics and lead into later Guest Relations puzzles. If the quest is missing, confirm that the anniversary event content is active and that you have progressed through the preceding tutorial.
This is seasonal anniversary content, not a continuously available quest. The references establish its association with the 20th Anniversary event but do not confirm whether it is live on October 8, 2026, or guarantee when it may return. A Blizzard forum report also documents players encountering the quest as unavailable; check the in-game event and your tutorial progress rather than assuming the quest is permanently available.
What the quest asks you to do
Benatauk’s quest description explains the incense’s purpose: “Fortunately, we Tuskarr have an incense that lets our souls communicate across long distances.” The objective is straightforward: purchase Spiritual Incense, use it to communicate with Maru, and report back to Benatauk.
