Fortnite’s Chapter 5 Season 2 Story Quests ran from March 12 to May 24, 2024, so this walkthrough documents how the Cerberus Snapshot questline worked during that season; it does not indicate that the objectives can still be completed in the current game. The nine-stage story follows Cerberus as he searches for an artifact he misplaced, before Hades reveals he took it away for safekeeping. The archived quest list and a dated April 24, 2024 walkthrough record the objectives and locations.
How the Cerberus Snapshot questline worked
The stages combine Scrying Pool conversations, combat, a clue search, a boss fight, and tracking the artifact’s scent. The archived quest list and the dated guide each list 10,000 XP per quest completion; these are historical rewards from Chapter 5 Season 2, not a claim about current Fortnite rewards.
Complete the nine main stages
1. Speak with Cerberus at a Scrying Pool
Interact with a Scrying Pool and choose the conversation with Cerberus. The archived objective reads, “Use a Scrying Pool to speak with Cerberus.” He explains that his master entrusted him with a powerful artifact, which he has misplaced.
2. Eliminate 20 targets
The next objective is “Eliminate anything to see if they took the Artifact.” The dated walkthrough specifies 20 eliminations. The quest wording does not require a particular target type.

3. Search one of the three clue locations
Cerberus’ clue leads to one of three possible dig sites. You only need to search the clue location indicated for your quest:
- The Other Windmill
- The grassy island at the center of the map—not the temple island
- The Cemetery, near the snow
Land at the indicated site to trigger the dig objective. Use your harvesting tool on the glowing spot, then interact with the item that appears. The finds are decoys, continuing the lost-artifact story rather than ending the search.
4. Optional: defeat Ares and Zeus
The April 24 guide lists defeating Ares and Zeus as an optional task worth 50 XP. It is separate from the nine main stages, so it is not a prerequisite for completing the required sequence.
5. Speak with Hades at a Scrying Pool
Use another Scrying Pool to talk to Hades. He explains that he took the artifact away for safekeeping during Zeus’ tempest and put its scent on the player so Cerberus could follow the trail.

6. Defeat Cerberus at Grim Gate
Go to Grim Gate and defeat Cerberus. Epic’s Chapter 5 Season 2 announcement identifies Grim Gate as Cerberus’ location.
7. Follow the scent and collect the artifact
Land at Pleasant Piazza and follow the yellow, smoke-like scent trail. When the artifact appears, interact with it to collect it. This is the step whose archived wording reads, “follow the Scent of and collect the artifact.”
8. Return the artifact to Cerberus’ doghouse
Go to the north side of Grim Gate and interact with the artifact container. The English quest label recorded by the dated guide was “Return the Artifact to Cerberus’ Dog House.”
9. Speak with the Oracle at a Scrying Pool
Use a Scrying Pool one last time and select the conversation with the Oracle to finish the listed Cerberus Snapshot objectives.
