To complete Caught in the Hunt in Oblivion Remastered, follow Kurdan’s lead to Fort Grief, survive the hunters in the dungeon, then take the Fort Grief Real Key from Kurdan and use it to reach the lever that opens the main gate. Return to Bravil and speak with Ursanne Loche to finish the quest.
Start the quest in Bravil
Find Ursanne Loche at her house in Bravil and agree to help locate her husband, Aleron. Then go to the Lonely Suitor Lodge and speak with Kurdan gro-Dragol. Raise his disposition until he agrees to help. Kurdan says he will reveal Aleron’s location if you retrieve a family axe from Fort Grief, and gives you access to a boat.
The axe errand is a pretext: Aleron explains that Kurdan has lured you to the island to be hunted.
Reach Fort Grief and find Aleron
- Take the boat from Bravil’s dock to Fort Grief’s island.
- At the fort, activate the handle beside the gate to open it and enter.
- Find Aleron inside. He explains Kurdan’s setup and points you toward the dungeon.
Work through the dungeon
Follow the dungeon route through its locked doors and traps, defeating Kurdan’s hunters and collecting their keys as you go. These hunter keys help you progress through the dungeon, but they are not the key for the final locked gate.

Kill Kurdan and Ra’jhera, then take the Fort Grief Real Key from Kurdan. This is the key you need for the final gate.
Open the exit gate
- Return to the dungeon and use the Fort Grief Real Key on the locked gate.
- Go through the gate and activate the lever inside. It opens the fort’s main gate.
- Leave the island using Kurdan’s boat and return to Bravil.
Finish the quest and claim the reward
Speak with Ursanne Loche after you return to Bravil. This completes the quest. The reported reward is Biography of the Wolf Queen, a Speechcraft skill book. Game8’s Remastered walkthrough lists the route and reward.

Check that you have the Fort Grief Real Key from Kurdan; the hunters’ keys are for progressing through the dungeon, not opening the final gate. If the handle appears missing or the quest stops advancing, reload a recent save and check current official support or patch information for your platform.
Bethesda’s support page says a stuck-player issue in the original Oblivion was addressed in that game’s 1.1 update. That statement does not confirm whether the same issue occurs or is fixed in Oblivion Remastered. Bethesda Support’s page concerns the original game.
