To complete Liberty Falls’ main Easter egg, build or obtain the Jet Gun, assemble the LTG, charge and return two Aether Canisters, solve the Strauss Counter puzzle, then survive the three-phase fight in the church. This walkthrough follows the Standard Mode route; the quest is also known as “Bye-Bye, Dark Aether.”
Start the quest and get the Jet Gun
Open the route to the church, where the Pack-a-Punch machine is located. Interact with the large machine on its right to start the story sequence with Panos. You need the Thrustodyne M23, usually called the Jet Gun, to collect the LTG parts.

You can try the Mystery Box for a random chance at the Jet Gun, or craft it at the workbench in the upstairs room of the Motel. Crafting requires three parts:
- Water Pressure Gauge: Take the valve from outside Lily’s Flowerpot to Liberty Lanes. Melee the wall box beside the lane, attach the valve, then hold interact to build pressure until the gauge comes loose. Zombies attack while you do this, so have a teammate cover you if possible.
- Handbrake: Kill the Groundskeeper in the cemetery and take the Toolshed Key he drops. Use it to open the shed and collect the part. The Groundskeeper can disappear if you do not kill him quickly.
- Electrical Wires: Break the shutters at Radio House Electronics Superstore with a Mangler Cannon, then search the scrap inside. The cannon is one way to get the part; reaching level 20 is helpful for access to this option, but it is not a quest prerequisite if you obtain the Jet Gun another way.
Bring all three parts to the Motel workbench. A small horde emerges from the workbench room, so clear it or have a teammate guard you before assembling the weapon. For the part locations and assembly details, see GameSpot’s Jet Gun guide.

Build the LTG
Interact with the church machine again, then use the Jet Gun’s vacuum function to collect three floating LTG parts:
- Church: Near the balcony.
- Olly’s Comics: In the ceiling opening.
- Buzz’s Cuts barbershop: In an upper window. Use the nearby rooftop and truck route to line up the vacuum shot.
Take the parts to the workbench on the bank rooftop, called The Alamo, and assemble the Limited Transdimensional Gateway (LTG). A full route is also covered by GameSpot and Gameranx.

Charge and return the first Aether Canister
- Take the canister protruding from the church machine and place it beside an Aether Field Generator node.
- Carry the LTG to one of the two storm locations: the cemetery or the Riverside road near the viewfinders. Place it and defend the device for one minute, prioritizing purple-glowing enemies attacking it.
- When the elite appears, weaken it and lead it to the active generator field beside the canister. Activate the trap and kill the elite inside the field to charge the canister.
- Carry the charged canister back to the church machine. You cannot sprint while carrying it, and you have 90 seconds to return, so plan your route before picking it up.
- Retrieve the LTG after the first charge; you need it again. If the defense or elite-kill condition fails, you must wait until the next round to try again.
Both canisters require an elite kill inside an active Aether Field Generator field after the LTG defense. The carrying restriction and timing are described in Gameranx’s walkthrough.
Solve the Strauss Counter and charge the second canister
Returning the first canister opens a compartment containing the Strauss Counter. Visit the three Aether Scouts and match each one to the Counter using this rule: set a scout to the opposite color when the Counter is red or green; when the Counter is yellow, set the scout to yellow.

When all three are correct, their beams activate the second canister near the gas station in the spawn area. Place it beside a generator node, take the LTG to the storm location you did not use for the first charge, and repeat the one-minute defense and elite kill inside the active field. Return the charged canister to the church machine. Installing both canisters unlocks the final encounter.

The final encounter is possible solo or in co-op; teammates can make defended interactions easier. Before starting, one guide recommends bringing at least one Legendary-tier weapon, a Level 3 Pack-a-Punch weapon, a three-plate armor vest, Juggernog, Speed Cola, and Quick Revive. A Ray Gun is also suggested, with PhD Flopper if you use it. These are recommendations, not quest requirements.

For breathing room while figuring out steps, leave one zombie alive when practical. Decoys can also draw enemies away, as PC Gamer’s general Zombies advice notes.
Complete the three-phase final encounter
Interact with the church machine after installing both canisters. The room locks and the fight begins:

- Phase one: Fight regular zombies and elites.
- Phase two: Defeat the high-value Mangler.
- Phase three: Survive the Abomination. When it uses its beam attack, target its exposed mouths.
Keep fighting until the ending sequence triggers. The first completion awards the “Bye-Bye, Dark Aether” trophy or achievement and cosmetics including a Calling Card and Weapon Charm, according to Gameranx. The Standard Mode route and its lack of special prerequisites are also covered by PowerPyx; Directed Mode can award the achievement, but presents objectives in a different order.
