To make wedding-song videos smaller for YouTube, export each one as an MP4 with H.264 video, AAC-LC or Opus audio at 48 kHz, progressive scan, and the recording’s original frame rate. Then upload the videos and organize them in a YouTube playlist. Compression and playlist playback are separate: a playlist is not a live broadcast, and it does not guarantee gapless or uninterrupted playback.
Choose the workflow you mean by “continuous stream”
| What you want | What to do | What it does not guarantee |
|---|---|---|
| Viewers play uploaded wedding videos in sequence | Compress and upload each video, then add the uploads to a YouTube playlist. | A playlist is a collection of videos, not a live broadcast; the cited guidance does not establish gapless playback or uninterrupted transitions. |
| A scheduled broadcast that viewers join live | Use YouTube’s live-stream workflow. This is distinct from uploading videos and arranging them in a playlist. | Playlist instructions do not configure a live broadcast. Check YouTube’s current live-stream setup requirements for eligibility and encoder details. |
YouTube for Artists distinguishes a live stream from a Premiere, in which viewers watch newly uploaded content together in real time. Its guidance also describes featuring a playlist of related content on a channel page; it does not say playlists provide gapless playback. See YouTube for Artists’ release-day strategy.
Export smaller files without guessing at a compression percentage
YouTube’s recommended upload settings are useful starting points, not mandatory limits or guarantees of a particular file size. For an SDR upload, use progressive scan, keep the frame rate used in the recording, and use MP4 with H.264 video. YouTube recommends placing the MP4 moov atom at the front (“Fast Start”) and using no edit lists. Its audio guidance supports AAC-LC or Opus at 48 kHz; the reference bitrate for stereo audio is 384 kbps. The recommended SDR color space is BT.709. See YouTube’s recommended upload encoding settings.
Pick a video bitrate for the resolution and frame rate

Lowering resolution or video bitrate generally reduces video data, but can soften details or create visible compression artifacts. Wedding footage with movement, fine decoration, low light, or confetti may show damage sooner than a static scene. Keep the source frame rate rather than changing it just to shrink the file, and listen to the exported audio for distortion or unwanted changes. The final size depends on the footage, encoder, and quality setting; YouTube’s recommendations do not specify an optimal compression percentage. YouTube also notes that audio playback bitrate is not tied to video resolution.
Export and check each file
- Open the wedding video in an editor or encoder that lets you choose container, video codec, audio codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate.
- Set the container to MP4 and video codec to H.264. Keep progressive scan and the recording’s original frame rate.
- Choose the output resolution you want to retain, then use the matching YouTube SDR bitrate range above as a starting point. If reducing size, test a short representative section first and inspect faces, text, motion, and details before exporting the full video.
- Set audio to AAC-LC or Opus at 48 kHz. For stereo, YouTube’s reference audio bitrate is 384 kbps. Check that music remains clear and that the exported video is synchronized.
- Enable Fast Start or the equivalent option to put the moov atom at the front of the MP4, and avoid edit lists where the export tool exposes those options.
- Play the completed file from beginning to end—or at least inspect representative scenes and transitions—before uploading. Confirm that it opens, has the expected duration, and has no unintended mute sections or visual damage.
- Upload the videos to YouTube, then create or select a playlist and add the uploads in the intended order. Playlist ordering organizes the videos; it does not turn them into a live broadcast.
Check music rights before publishing in India
Compression changes the media file, not the rights to use the music. IP India identifies musical works, sound recordings, and cinematograph films as protected subject matter; a sound recording can involve several rights holders, including lyricists, composers, singers, musicians, and the recording producer. A Copyright Office of India public notice dated 27 August 2019 reproduces the Section 52(1)(za) passage concerning a bona fide religious ceremony, including a marriage procession and associated social festivities. The passage refers to “the performance of a literary, dramatic or musical work or the communication to the public of such work or of a sound recording in the course of any bona fide religious ceremony or an official ceremony held by the Central Government or the State Government or any local authority.” That wording does not establish that a creator may upload or publicly stream a wedding video containing commercial songs to YouTube. Do not treat the fact that a song was played at a wedding as automatic clearance for online publication. Check the relevant rights and intended use with the rights holder or qualified Indian counsel. The notice is available at the Copyright Office of India.
Licensing terms can depend on the song, use, platform, and duration. For example, Saregama says its license covers selected kinds of content and warns that YouTube may take down unlicensed content or issue copyright claims. Its stated terms concern its own music catalog, not every Indian song; see the Saregama FAQ.
