Restreamer can publish an already configured live channel to YouTube Live, but its documented YouTube setup does not establish a built-in control for replaying a finite video file forever. To make a loop, the video source or playout layer must repeat the content; connecting Restreamer to YouTube alone only sends the feed it receives.
What Restreamer’s YouTube setup does—and does not—do
Restreamer’s Publication Service sends an existing channel to YouTube using a valid YouTube streaming ID. The service handles publication; it does not, by itself, demonstrate that a video file will restart automatically when it reaches its end. The official documentation describes publication and process controls, but does not show a native finite-file repeat option. See Restreamer’s YouTube guide, its publication-services documentation, and processing and control documentation.
So treat this as two separate jobs: configure a source that produces the video and audio feed, then configure Restreamer to publish that feed to YouTube. If the source is a finite recording, it needs a repeat-capable playout method of its own. The documentation cited here does not verify a particular repeat tool or Restreamer UI toggle for that job.
Before you start
- Install and start Restreamer. Its Quick Start describes Docker-based installation and notes YouTube as an optional publication destination.
- Have access to the YouTube channel and its live-stream setup so you can obtain the valid streaming ID. YouTube Studio labels and steps may change; follow the current live workflow in your account.
- Know what Restreamer will receive: for example, a configured network or hardware source. Restreamer’s wizard documentation lists source options including hardware, Raspberry Pi camera, USB, and SRT.
- Check that the feed has an audio channel. The wizard says YouTube may require active audio; for a silent video source, it recommends adding a silent audio channel.
- If you need a repeating video, arrange for the source or playout layer to repeat it before you rely on the YouTube publication steps below. The sources cited here do not specify how to configure that repeat.
Configure the source and audio in Restreamer
- Open the Restreamer wizard. Configure the video source you intend to publish. Available choices depend on your setup; the documented wizard covers network sources and options such as hardware, Raspberry Pi camera, USB, and SRT.
- Check the audio settings. Confirm the source provides an active audio channel. If it is intentionally silent, use a silent audio channel as recommended by the wizard. Do not assume that a video-only input will satisfy YouTube’s audio requirement.
- Save and verify the channel. Confirm that the source is available and that its audio setup is correct before adding the YouTube destination. The wizard’s instructions are at docs.datarhei.com/restreamer/knowledge-base/manual/wizard.
Add YouTube as a Publication Service
- Open Publication Service in Restreamer and select YouTube.
- Enter the YouTube streaming ID. Get it through the live-stream workflow for the YouTube channel and event you intend to use. Enter a valid ID; do not substitute a channel URL or assume that an old key is valid for a new event.
- Save the service, then start it. Restreamer’s YouTube guide describes this order.
- Confirm the connection. The guide says the outgoing bitrate appears in Restreamer’s main window when connected. Use that indicator as a connection check, while also confirming the event’s live status in YouTube.
Publication-service options and supported protocols are described in Restreamer’s publication-services manual. Exact interface labels can vary by Restreamer version.

Make the stream repeat continuously
A continuous YouTube broadcast requires the source to keep supplying a feed. The Restreamer publication steps above do not prove that a finite recording will restart at its end. The reviewed official pages do not document a native file-loop control or a recommended repeat workflow, so do not rely on an assumed “loop” checkbox or playlist behavior.
Use a source or playout system that explicitly supports repeating the content, and verify that it continues to send video and audio into Restreamer after the recording reaches its end. Then publish that ongoing feed through the YouTube service. If you cannot confirm the source’s repeat behavior, test it with a short recording and monitor the feed through the end and restart before depending on it for a long broadcast.

End a broadcast without risking its DVR archive
After the event, end the stream on YouTube first, then stop the Restreamer output. Restreamer warns that interrupting the output in Restreamer first can mean YouTube does not save the event in its DVR archive. Its guidance is explicit: “Always end the stream on YouTube first after an event.” See the YouTube guide.
Troubleshooting
YouTube does not receive the Restreamer feed
- Check the selected destination. Confirm that the Publication Service is set to YouTube and saved.
- Check the streaming ID. Verify it is the valid ID for the intended YouTube live workflow, then restart the service if you changed it.
- Check the connection indicator. Restreamer’s guide says the outgoing bitrate is shown in its main window when connected. If it does not indicate a connection, recheck the source and destination setup.
The YouTube event has video but no sound, or will not accept the audio setup
Check whether the configured source supplies an active audio channel. For an intentionally silent feed, the Restreamer wizard recommends a silent audio channel. Review the source’s audio settings before saving.

The recording ends and the broadcast stops or goes blank
That points to the source or playout layer, not proof of a YouTube publication failure. Restreamer’s documented Publication Service does not establish that it repeats finite media. Configure and verify repeat behavior at the source/pllayout layer before treating the feed as a loop.
The YouTube DVR archive is missing
For future events, end the stream in YouTube before stopping the Restreamer output. The guide warns that stopping the output first can prevent YouTube from saving the DVR archive.
