To connect OBS Studio to YouTube Live, copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, enter them under OBS > Settings > Stream, then start streaming in OBS and click Go live in YouTube after the preview appears. Before broadcasting devotional music, confirm your channel is eligible to livestream and that you have permission to use every recording and performance in the programme.
Before you configure OBS
- Check livestream access. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. The cited YouTube guidance does not specify a separate India-only requirement for using an OBS stream key. See YouTube’s live streaming tips.
- Prepare the broadcast source. In OBS, make sure the intended audio and video are reaching the scene you plan to send. For a music stream, listen to the mix and check levels before going live.
- Confirm rights for the exact material. Devotional subject matter does not automatically make a recording or performance free to livestream. Check permissions for each sound recording, arrangement, backing track and performance you plan to use. YouTube advises creators to ensure their audio and video do not infringe others’ rights, but the cited guidance does not determine the rights status of particular bhajans, kirtans or other repertoire in India. Get the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio
- In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live.
- Open the Stream tab in Live Control Room. Create a stream or select an existing one. If you have streamed before, YouTube may load previously used stream settings and a key.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown there. Keep them separate: the URL is the server address, while the key identifies and authorizes your feed. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Enter the key in OBS Studio
- Open OBS Studio and select Settings > Stream.
- If YouTube is available in the service list, select it and paste the YouTube stream key into the stream-key field.
- If YouTube is unavailable or you need manual configuration, select the custom service option. Paste YouTube’s stream URL into OBS’s Server field and the key into the separate Stream Key field. Do not paste the key into the server field.
- Apply the settings. Treat the key like a password: do not show it on screen or share it publicly. YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” If the key is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio under Go Live > Stream, then replace the old key in OBS. See Manage live stream settings.
Set video, audio and connection quality
For a conventional SDR broadcast over RTMP or RTMPS, YouTube’s published encoder guidance specifies H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), a recommended two-second keyframe interval, and AAC or MP3 audio. YouTube recommends RTMPS to encrypt the connection between your encoder and YouTube. Consult the current encoder settings, bitrate and resolution guidance for the bitrate matching your selected codec and resolution rather than using a single bitrate for every setup; see also YouTube’s RTMPS guidance.
- Choose a resolution and frame rate your computer and upload connection can sustain consistently.
- Run an upload-speed test and leave headroom; other people or devices sharing the connection can reduce the capacity available to OBS.
- Test using audio and movement similar to the real programme. A mostly static devotional image with music still needs a stable audio feed and a healthy encoder connection.
- Monitor Live Control Room’s stream-health messages and preview rather than assuming that a successful OBS connection means viewers are receiving good audio and video.
YouTube notes that connection interruptions can disrupt a stream. Its streaming tips recommend testing and monitoring before and during a broadcast.
Start the broadcast and verify it
- In OBS, select Start Streaming.
- Return to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and wait for the incoming preview.
- Check the picture and listen to the audio in the preview. Confirm the correct scene, programme audio and stream health.
- When the preview is ready, click Go live in Live Control Room. OBS sends the feed; YouTube’s control room is where you confirm and publish the live broadcast.
For a scheduled programme, test the entire route in advance. YouTube recommends previewing before going live and checking stream health and audio/video quality. If appropriate, use an unlisted test broadcast so you can verify the setup without presenting it as the public event. Streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, according to YouTube’s encoder setup page; do not assume a longer broadcast will be archived in the same way.

Troubleshoot common OBS and YouTube connection problems
