To stream an Indian-language video continuously to YouTube Live with FFmpeg, get the stream’s ingestion URL and key from YouTube Studio, prepare a file or compatible playlist, then send it to YouTube as an H.264 video and AAC audio stream. Use FFmpeg’s input loop option for one file or the concat demuxer for a playlist. Select the intended audio track explicitly, test the stream in YouTube’s Live Control Room, and keep the stream key private.
1. Set up the YouTube Live stream
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Set up an immediate or scheduled encoder stream, then copy its server or ingestion URL and stream key from the stream settings.
- Use the endpoint YouTube provides. Prefer the RTMPS endpoint when available. Do not substitute an example address: the correct address depends on the stream settings YouTube gives you.
- Protect the key. YouTube treats a stream key like a password. Do not put it in a public script repository, screenshot, or log. If it is exposed, reset it in Studio and update FFmpeg with the replacement.
- Check the event controls. For a scheduled event, the encoder feed may need to be followed by a Go live action in the Live Control Room. YouTube also offers auto-start and auto-stop settings; confirm how those are set before relying on unattended operation.
In the command examples below, rtmps://INGEST_HOST/APP/STREAM_KEY is only a placeholder. Replace it with the exact endpoint and key for your stream. Treat the complete URL as sensitive if it contains the key.
2. Choose a single-file loop or a playlist
| Approach | Best fit | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Loop one file | A continuous broadcast built around one video. It is the simpler setup to configure and diagnose. | Confirm that the intended audio track is mapped and that the beginning-to-end transition back to the start is acceptable. |
| Loop a concatenated playlist | A sequence of videos that should play one after another. | Files need compatible streams, especially codec, resolution, frame rate, sample rate, and channel layout. Test every transition; otherwise a file change can cause playback or encoding problems. |
Prepare and identify the media
Check each file’s video, audio, and subtitle streams before going live. If a file has more than one audio track, determine which stream contains the intended language and map that stream explicitly. The examples map the first video and first audio stream with -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0; change the audio mapping if the desired track is elsewhere. Do not assume that the first audio stream is Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, or another language.
For a playlist, create a text file with one entry per source file, for example:

The concat demuxer is intended for compatible files. If the files differ in ways that prevent a clean join, preprocess them into a consistent format or use a suitable filter and transcode workflow instead. The -safe 0 option in the playlist command relaxes path restrictions; use it only with a playlist file you control.
3. Use YouTube-compatible encoding settings
YouTube’s current encoder guidance covers H.264, H.265, and AV1 ingestion over RTMP/RTMPS; H.264 is the widely interoperable baseline used in the commands here. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, progressive scan, square pixels, and Rec. 709 for SDR. It recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds. Set the frame rate and GOP together so the keyframe interval matches the selected frame rate.

| Output choice | YouTube recommendation | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| H.264, 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps video bitrate | YouTube’s current encoder guidance; publication year not stated. A recommendation, not a guarantee on an unstable uplink. |
| H.264, 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps video bitrate | YouTube’s current encoder guidance; publication year not stated. A recommendation, not a guarantee on an unstable uplink. |
| Stereo audio | AAC at 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps | YouTube’s current encoder guidance; publication year not stated. |
| 5.1 audio | AAC at 48 kHz and 384 kbps | YouTube’s current encoder guidance; 5.1 is supported only with AAC on RTMP/RTMPS. |
Choose a bitrate for the codec, frame size, and frame rate you intend to send, then check that your sustained upload capacity can support it reliably. YouTube advises testing upload speed and testing with representative audio and motion. A bitrate recommendation cannot compensate for an unstable connection.
Indian-language audio does not require a special ingest protocol in the reviewed YouTube encoder guidance. Language handling is about the media and viewer information: map the correct audio, identify the language accurately in the title and description, and provide reviewed captions or subtitles through YouTube’s captions workflow. Language metadata by itself neither changes the spoken track nor creates captions. Check spelling, names, and script rendering in actual playback.

4. FFmpeg command for looping one video
This is an illustrative command pattern, not a tested command. Replace the file path, audio mapping, and endpoint with your own values. FFmpeg options are order-sensitive and apply to the next input or output, so check the help for your installed FFmpeg build and test privately before publishing.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "video.mp4"
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 5M -maxrate 5M -bufsize 10M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://INGEST_HOST/APP/STREAM_KEY"
-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely;-rereads the file at playback speed rather than sending it as fast as the machine can process it.- The example targets H.264 at 1080p30 with a 5 Mbps video bitrate, matching YouTube’s recommendation for that profile. Adjust resolution, frame rate, GOP, and bitrate together for other output profiles.
- At 30 fps,
-g 60sets a 60-frame GOP, corresponding to two seconds. The keyframe settings must be recalculated if you change the frame rate. -c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100selects AAC stereo audio at the recommended sample rate and bitrate. Check that the source audio and selected mapping produce the language and channel layout you intend.-pix_fmt yuv420pis used in this example; the output should also be progressive, use square pixels, and be Rec. 709 for SDR as appropriate to the media.
5. FFmpeg command for a continuous playlist
Use the concat demuxer when the playlist files have compatible streams. This command loops the list after its final entry:

ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.txt
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 5M -maxrate 5M -bufsize 10M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://INGEST_HOST/APP/STREAM_KEY"
As with the single-file example, replace the placeholder values, choose the intended audio stream, and match the bitrate and GOP to the output you are actually sending. Verify that your FFmpeg build supports the protocol and codecs you need.
6. Test before leaving the stream unattended
- Start FFmpeg with a private test stream or at a time when you can check the result.
- Read the FFmpeg log for input decode errors, output failures, reconnects, and dropped or duplicated frames.
- Open the YouTube Live Control Room preview. Check stream health, picture, audio continuity, language track, captions if used, and playlist transitions.
- Test the full playlist cycle rather than only the first file, and confirm that the transition back to the beginning works.
- Decide how the process will be restarted after a crash, and account for host restarts, file access, network outages, and key validity. A process supervisor can restart FFmpeg, but that alone does not guarantee an uninterrupted stream.
7. Plan around YouTube’s archive behavior
YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation describes a 24/7-feed use case in which a continuing live feed is associated with a separate viewer-facing broadcast. Those are distinct behaviors: support for a continuous feed does not establish that one endless broadcast will become one complete archive video. If a complete replay matters, use bounded sessions and preserve the source files locally; verify current Studio behavior for the event you plan to run.

| Broadcast plan | Practical consequence |
|---|---|
| One continuing feed | Useful for an always-on live experience, but do not rely on it producing one complete archive of unlimited duration. |
| Bounded scheduled sessions | Provides a defined session length for archive planning and operator recovery. Keep local copies of source media if the archive matters. |
8. Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Wrong endpoint, invalid key, or key no longer matching the selected stream. | Copy the current ingestion URL and key from YouTube Studio. If the key may have been exposed, reset it and update the command. |
| FFmpeg starts but YouTube reports poor stream health | The chosen bitrate may exceed stable upload capacity, or the connection may be unstable. | Test sustained upload capacity, check FFmpeg logs, and choose a bitrate appropriate to the selected resolution and frame rate. |
| The wrong language is audible or there is no audio | The command maps a different audio stream than intended, or the source audio does not match the assumed layout. | Inspect the file’s audio streams, update the explicit -map selection, then listen in the Live Control Room preview. |
| A playlist stops or breaks at a transition | Files may have incompatible codecs, dimensions, frame rates, sample rates, or channel layouts. | Test the transition, make the playlist files compatible, or preprocess them to a consistent format. |
| FFmpeg exits or playback stops after a host or network interruption | The process, host, media access, or internet connection failed; reconnect or restart behavior may not be configured. | Review the FFmpeg output and host/network logs, check that files and key remain available, and test the operator’s restart procedure before relying on it unattended. |
| Captions or script render incorrectly | Captions may be absent, inaccurate, or not reviewed for spelling and script display. | Review captions using YouTube’s captions workflow and verify the rendered text in playback. |
