To run OBS for a 24/7 YouTube stream on Airtel broadband, set YouTube’s recommended encoder options, then choose a bitrate your connection can sustain on upload—with at least 20% headroom. There is no single Airtel-specific preset: actual upload capacity, household traffic, router stability and PC reliability vary by connection. This guide is for streaming prerecorded video or other content through OBS to YouTube Live; YouTube channel eligibility and content rights still apply.
Before you configure OBS
Confirm that live streaming is enabled for your YouTube channel and that the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to create a stream, while Manage live stream settings covers stream settings in Live Control Room.
- Use a computer capable of encoding continuously and keep it powered, ventilated and connected to the network for the full broadcast.
- Have your YouTube stream URL and stream key ready. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace it in OBS.
- Where supported, YouTube offers RTMPS, an encrypted form of RTMP. Use the server URL and protocol details shown by YouTube for your stream.
- Check that the video and audio you intend to stream are permitted on YouTube. OBS settings do not grant rights to music, gameplay footage, or other material, and YouTube’s live-stream policies apply.
Choose OBS settings for YouTube Live
Set the stream destination
- In YouTube Studio, select Go Live and create or schedule an encoder stream.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select the YouTube service if available, then enter the stream URL and key provided in Live Control Room. If using a custom server option, copy the exact URL and key YouTube displays.
- Keep the stream key private. Do not include it in screenshots, public recordings or support requests.
Set video output and bitrate
For a standard SDR stream, H.264 is a straightforward compatibility choice. YouTube’s live encoder guidance recommends CBR (constant bitrate), a 2-second keyframe interval, and says the interval should not exceed 4 seconds. YouTube lists frame rates up to 60 fps. The bitrate figures below are YouTube recommendations for H.264, not guarantees about what any Airtel line can sustain.
| Output | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 12 Mbps |
In OBS, open Settings → Output and configure the streaming encoder for CBR and a bitrate suited to your measured upload capacity. Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds in the encoder settings. Under Settings → Video, choose a base canvas and output resolution that match your content and connection; choose a frame rate no higher than needed. A lower output resolution or frame rate can reduce the bitrate needed for a stable stream.

YouTube’s cited encoder guidance lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends 128 Kbps for stereo AAC/MP3. Use a supported audio encoder and check that the OBS audio meter moves when your content plays.
Set bitrate from the Airtel connection you actually have
Use sustained upload performance—not download speed or an Airtel plan’s advertised headline—as the constraint. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom and notes that other people or devices sharing the connection can reduce what is available to the encoder. Its streaming tips advise leaving that margin.

- Connect the streaming PC the way it will be connected during the broadcast. Run upload-speed tests at different times, including busy household hours.
- Account for other simultaneous uploads, including cloud backups, video calls, other streams and household devices.
- Choose a bitrate that remains below the upload capacity you can reliably sustain, with room for variation and competing use. If the line fluctuates, reduce bitrate and/or resolution rather than trusting a peak test result.
- For a practical starting point, compare the measured, sustained upload capacity with YouTube’s recommended bitrate for your chosen resolution and frame rate. If there is not enough capacity plus headroom, step down to a lower output profile.
Airtel India’s broadband plans page advertises plan ceilings such as up to 40, 100, 300 and 1024 Mbps, with price, availability and speed depending on geography, tariff and current offers. These advertised figures do not establish a guaranteed upload rate or uninterrupted service for a particular home. Test your own line.
Prefer a wired connection when practical
Connect the PC to the router by Ethernet if you can. A wired link avoids some sources of local wireless variability, but it cannot fix an ISP outage, a faulty router, congestion elsewhere on the network or an upload rate that is too low. OBS describes dropped frames as generally associated with an unstable path to the ingest server or a bitrate beyond what the link can sustain; its connection troubleshooting guide recommends investigating the network path.

Test the stream before leaving it on
- Start a test stream using movement and audio similar to what you plan to broadcast. YouTube’s computer live-stream tips recommend testing and monitoring before going live.
- Check the preview and stream health messages in YouTube Live Control Room.
- In OBS, check dropped-frame statistics and confirm that the encoder is not overloaded. Verify the public player from a second device or network where possible.
- Run the test long enough to reveal issues that do not appear in a brief preview, and repeat it at a busier time of day if household traffic varies.
If frames drop or the connection disconnects, do not assume OBS itself is at fault. Check the PC-to-router link, router, competing upload traffic and the path to YouTube’s ingest server; lower the bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it.
Account for Airtel fair use and YouTube archiving
Check data usage terms for your plan
A continuous stream sends data all the time. Airtel India’s published Xstream Fiber terms and conditions state a 3333 GB fair-use threshold per billing cycle, after which speed is reduced; the terms also reserve the ability to change the policy. Confirm the current terms for your specific plan and market rather than assuming that every Airtel service has identical limits.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Estimate usage from the combined video and audio bitrate and the hours streamed. As a rough planning method, convert the total bitrate to bytes per second by dividing bits per second by eight, then multiply by broadcast seconds. Add overhead and allow for bitrate variation; actual use depends on the stream and how the provider measures it.
Do not rely on one 24-hour stream for a complete YouTube archive
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise a complete archive for a single continuous 24-hour broadcast. If a complete recording matters, investigate a separate local recording and test available disk capacity and storage reliability before relying on it. A local recording is not a YouTube archive feature.

Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| OBS shows dropped frames | Unstable network path or bitrate beyond sustained upload | Check the PC-to-router link and router, pause competing uploads, compare current upload performance with the stream bitrate, and lower the bitrate if needed. |
| Stream disconnects | Connection interruption, router or ISP path, or an unsustainable bitrate | Review OBS and YouTube stream-health messages, check the local network and competing traffic, and test again at a lower bitrate. |
| YouTube does not receive the OBS stream | Incorrect destination or stream credentials, or live-stream eligibility/setup | Check the stream URL and key against Live Control Room, confirm the stream is enabled there, and replace the key in OBS if it was reset. |
| Video or audio is missing in the preview | OBS source, scene, playback or audio routing | Confirm the intended scene and sources are active, video is playing, and audio meters respond before starting the broadcast. |
| Stream runs but quality fluctuates | Upload variation or competing network use | Reduce output resolution, frame rate or bitrate and repeat the test under realistic household conditions. |
| Speed falls during the billing cycle | Plan-specific data policy may apply | Check current Airtel terms and usage for your exact plan; the published Xstream Fiber terms describe reduced speed after their stated fair-use threshold. |
