For a cautious starting point, configure OBS for 720p at 30 fps, use YouTube’s recommended 4 Mbps H.264 bitrate only if your sustained upload can support it, and set a 2-second keyframe interval. Test the actual mobile connection before going live and leave headroom: neither OBS nor YouTube offers a setting that guarantees uninterrupted streaming over 4G.
What a 4G setup can—and cannot—guarantee
There is no special India-only OBS preset in the cited OBS or YouTube guidance, and those sources do not promise continuous uptime on 4G. Mobile upload capacity can vary with location, signal, network congestion and competing traffic. A speed test is a snapshot, not proof of the upload rate your stream can sustain.
Use YouTube’s encoder figures as platform recommendations, not as a prediction of what your connection can handle. OBS Project’s troubleshooting guidance suggests starting with a video bitrate around 75% of total upload speed. On mobile, treat that as a starting point and test under conditions similar to your planned stream.
Configure YouTube and OBS
- Create the YouTube stream: In YouTube Live Control Room, set up the event and retrieve its stream connection details. In OBS, choose YouTube as the service, then connect your account or enter the event’s stream key. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Start with a conservative video mode: In OBS, open Settings > Video and set the output resolution to 1280×720 and the frame rate to 30 fps. This is a practical starting point, not a required India-specific preset.
- Set bitrate and encoder: Open Settings > Output and configure streaming output. YouTube’s H.264 guidance recommends 4 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps and 5 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps. Set your bitrate below the sustained upload available to the stream, allowing for other devices and traffic on the connection. OBS guidance suggests around 75% of total upload as a starting point. If the connection cannot sustain the target, lower bitrate and/or resolution, then test again. Select an encoder your computer supports and watch for rendering or encoding overload; no single encoder preset is established for every computer.
- Set keyframes: Use a 2-second keyframe interval. YouTube recommends 2 seconds and says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Test before the real broadcast: Run a private or otherwise suitable test stream with audio and motion similar to the planned content. Check YouTube’s stream health and OBS’s dropped-frame count before relying on the setup for an important broadcast.
Choose settings around the connection you actually have
| Choice | What to consider |
|---|---|
| 720p30 vs. 1080p30 | YouTube’s H.264 recommendations are 4 Mbps for 720p30 and 5 Mbps for 1080p30. The higher-resolution option needs more upload capacity; neither figure establishes what a particular 4G link can sustain. |
| Fixed bitrate vs. dynamic bitrate | A fixed bitrate gives you a set target. OBS also documents Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta), which can lower bitrate instead of dropping frames when the connection cannot keep up. OBS cautions that this lowers quality and does not solve the underlying network problem; treat it as a fallback, not an uptime guarantee. |
| Router vs. tethering | A 4G router with Ethernet can provide a dedicated local connection arrangement for a computer. It cannot create tower capacity, prevent carrier congestion or guarantee a stable upload. Compare your available carriers and test at the location and time you intend to stream; no nationwide carrier winner or address-level upload rate is established here. |
Test and troubleshoot dropped frames or disconnects
OBS says rising network-dropped frames indicate that the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate. If OBS is dropping frames or a YouTube live stream disconnects, work through these checks rather than assuming the encoder is at fault.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Network-dropped frames rise: Lower the bitrate first, then repeat the representative test. Check whether other devices are uploading or downloading over the same connection.
- The bitrate works in a speed test but fails during a stream: A single speed-test result does not show sustained capacity on the route to YouTube’s ingest server. Retest at the stream location and under realistic conditions; reduce bitrate if drops continue.
- OBS dynamic bitrate is enabled: It may reduce quality to manage congestion, but it cannot repair an unstable mobile connection. If the stream remains unreliable, investigate the connection and retest at a lower target bitrate.
- OBS shows no network drops, but video or audio still has problems: Check YouTube stream health and OBS rendering or encoding load. A network setting cannot fix an overloaded computer.
- Results vary by place or time: Compare available mobile networks at the intended streaming location and test more than once. A router changes the local arrangement; it does not prevent cellular outages or congestion.

Plan for power and stream continuity
A UPS can keep local equipment such as a computer and networking gear powered through some local power interruptions, but it cannot preserve a cellular connection during a carrier outage. Similarly, keeping OBS open does not protect a stream from a lost mobile link. If reliable continuity matters, test the whole chain—including power, encoder, mobile connection and YouTube ingest—rather than treating any single device or setting as a guarantee.
