If a YouTube live stream keeps disconnecting overnight on BSNL broadband, the timing alone does not prove BSNL is throttling or resetting it. First capture the failure, then check whether the encoder, your local network, or the broadband connection drops at the same moment. Use the steps below to isolate the cause before changing equipment or settings.
What to record when the next reset happens
Before rebooting the router, modem, ONT, or encoder, note the exact local time and timezone. A useful record lets you compare what YouTube received with what your encoder and broadband connection were doing.
- The encoder’s error message and log entry.
- YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health status or warning.
- The encoder’s bitrate graph and dropped-frame count.
- Whether browsing or other internet use on the same connection also fails.
- Whether the modem, router, DSL, WAN, or ONT indicators change.
YouTube advises checking encoder health first; if the encoder appears to be working normally, test the outbound internet connection and contact the ISP if it is unstable. See YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance.
Check the encoder and YouTube stream settings
Run a representative test
Update your encoder software, check its output and CPU load, and run a private or unlisted test with the same resolution, frame rate, audio, and realistic on-screen movement you expect overnight. Watch stream health during the test. A short test cannot rule out a fault that occurs only later, but it can reveal an encoder or configuration problem before a long broadcast.

Use YouTube’s current encoder-settings guidance for the selected resolution, frame rate, and codec: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. Its recommended keyframe interval is two seconds and should not exceed four seconds. Use constant bitrate (CBR). YouTube’s listed H.264 recommendation for 1080p at 30 fps is 14 Mbps; the listed AV1/H.265 recommendation for that same resolution and frame rate is 10 Mbps. These are platform recommendations, not proof that a particular BSNL line can sustain that upload continuously.
Set bitrate for sustained upload, not a speed-test peak
Do not choose a bitrate solely from one speed-test result. Upload capacity can vary, and a stream needs headroom for network variation and other traffic. Compare the encoder’s bitrate and dropped frames with YouTube’s stream-health messages and with repeated upload tests, ideally during the hours when the problem normally occurs. If the bitrate is unstable or frames are being dropped, try a lower setting that remains appropriate for your chosen resolution and frame rate, then test again.

Separate Wi-Fi or cabling trouble from the broadband path
Test over Ethernet
If the encoder is on Wi-Fi, connect it to the router by Ethernet for a comparable test. Check that the cable is seated and that the router and computer show an Ethernet link. BSNL’s customer guide says to check or change the Ethernet cable if the LAN indicator is off. A new cable is relevant only if the existing cable or link is suspect; it will not fix a fault upstream of your home network. If you must use Wi-Fi
Check that the encoder remains connected to the intended Wi-Fi network when the reset occurs, and note whether other wireless devices lose connectivity at the same time. If only the encoder’s Wi-Fi connection fails but wired devices remain online, focus first on the local wireless link rather than assuming a BSNL line fault.

Check the access connection for your BSNL service
DSL or ADSL
For DSL/ADSL, note whether the DSL indicator stays steadily synchronized during the stream. BSNL’s legacy guide says an off or blinking DSL light, or one that goes out, warrants checking loose connections and the wiring, splitter, and modem path. If DSL stays steady but internet access fails on a PPPoE connection, check the modem’s WAN status for an authentication failure. These are DSL checks; do not apply them to a fiber ONT or AirFiber installation.
FTTH, ONT, or AirFiber
Use the indicators and status pages for your actual ONT or access equipment, and follow current regional BSNL support instructions. Record any light or status change at the exact reset time. The Chennai DSL guidance does not establish what a particular fiber or AirFiber indicator means.

Should you switch from RTMP to RTMPS?
YouTube recommends RTMPS for live ingestion. RTMPS is RTMP carried through an SSL connection; it is a secure transport option, not a demonstrated fix for an unstable Wi-Fi link, access line, or ISP route. If your encoder supports it, you can select the RTMPS server or protocol in the streaming configuration and run a test. Do not treat a successful protocol change as proof that the underlying connection fault is cured. See Google’s RTMPS documentation.
When and how to report it to BSNL
If the stream resets coincide with loss of internet access, DSL synchronization changes, WAN authentication errors, or ONT status changes, submit a technical complaint with the timestamps and evidence you collected. BSNL’s self-care information lists online complaint channels and 1800-4444 for broadband/Bharat Fiber support: BSNL Self Care.

Give support multiple actual incident times, your access type and region, the encoder’s error text, whether other devices lost connectivity, and any modem/ONT indicator changes. Ask whether line or session diagnostics are available for those windows. BSNL’s published support information does not promise a specific cause or resolution time for overnight YouTube stream resets.
