In OBS, enable Automatically Reconnect, then set a positive Retry Delay and a finite Maximum Retries. OBS doubles the wait after each retry, so the delay is the starting wait—not a fixed interval. There is no official India-specific preset: choose settings for the interruptions you actually experience, and make sure your upload connection can sustain your stream bitrate.
Set OBS to reconnect after a dropped stream
The setting names are confirmed in OBS’s English interface, but their exact location can vary with OBS version and output mode. Look in OBS’s streaming output controls for Automatically Reconnect, Retry Delay and Maximum Retries. See the OBS English interface strings and OBS output API reference.
- Open OBS and go to the streaming output controls. Locate Automatically Reconnect.
- Enable automatic reconnecting.
- Set Retry Delay to a positive starting wait and Maximum Retries to a finite number greater than zero. In OBS, a retry count of zero disables reconnecting.
- Start a test stream and observe whether the retry window covers the brief interruptions you encounter. Adjust the delay or retry allowance based on those observations; official guidance does not prescribe a universal value for India.
- Keep YouTube’s Live Control Room open during the test and check stream health and messages.
OBS doubles the retry wait after each attempt to avoid overloading services. For example, the wait grows between attempts rather than repeating the initial delay. A longer retry window may cover a brief outage, but it cannot restore a connection that remains down or fix a stream YouTube rejects.
Check upload capacity before changing retry values
Reconnect settings only control what OBS does after losing its connection. They do not make an overloaded or unstable upload connection reliable. Run an upload speed test and choose an encoder bitrate your connection can sustain consistently; YouTube likewise advises choosing quality based on the internet connection. OBS’s troubleshooting guide suggests using 75% of total upload speed as a starting point, not a guarantee or an India-specific rule. See OBS network troubleshooting and YouTube’s live encoder settings.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use YouTube’s bitrate guidance for the exact codec, resolution and frame rate, rather than copying a bitrate detached from its setting:
| Example stream | Minimum bitrate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps, H.264 | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps, H.264 | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps, H.264 | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not measured upload speeds for Indian ISPs. They do not establish that a particular connection can hold that bitrate steadily.

Keep encoder and ingest settings compatible
Reconnect behavior is separate from the settings YouTube expects from the encoder. YouTube’s current live guidance recommends RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds). Supported codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1; YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings for the current details before changing codec-specific settings.
OBS maintains primary and backup YouTube RTMPS ingest endpoints in its YouTube service configuration. Treat switching endpoints as a troubleshooting step, not an India requirement: the available official guidance does not identify a particular endpoint as best for Indian connections.

Reduce common sources of dropped frames
- Prefer Ethernet when practical. OBS recommends a wired connection because Wi-Fi can be unstable for streaming. A compatible Cat6 Ethernet cable is one option if your computer and router have Ethernet ports and the cable can reach; it cannot fix congestion or a poor route beyond your local network.
- Lower bitrate if dropped frames persist. Keep reducing it until it fits stable upload capacity, then retest at the intended resolution and frame rate.
- Check the network path. OBS troubleshooting identifies VPN or security software interference, network drivers, the router or modem, and cables as areas to investigate. If the problem continues, contact your ISP.
- Use network options as tests, not magic fixes. OBS documents network optimizations and TCP pacing for Windows. It also suggests testing IPv4-only; if that makes no difference, return to the default IPv4/IPv6 setting.
- Consider dynamic bitrate with its trade-off understood. It can reduce bitrate during congestion, but image quality may fall and the underlying connection problem remains.
These are general OBS troubleshooting recommendations, not evidence that one Indian ISP, city or access technology has a particular reliability level.
Test with YouTube before relying on the stream
Run a private or otherwise suitable test before the broadcast. Match the planned stream’s motion and audio as closely as practical, because a static scene may not reveal the same encoder and connection demands as the real content. Monitor YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health and messages during the test, and note whether interruptions are brief enough for your OBS retry window.

Troubleshoot reconnect problems
| What you see | Likely area to check | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| OBS does not retry after losing the connection | Automatic reconnect is off, or Maximum Retries is zero. | Enable Automatically Reconnect and set a retry count greater than zero. |
| OBS retries, but the stream does not return | The connection may still be down, or YouTube may be rejecting the stream. | Check local connectivity and YouTube Live Control Room messages; confirm the stream key and encoder configuration. |
| Dropped frames continue after reconnecting | Bitrate may exceed sustained upload capacity, or the network path may be unstable. | Lower bitrate, test Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi, and investigate VPN/security software, drivers, router/modem and cables. |
| Changing endpoint seems necessary | The ingest path may warrant a deliberate troubleshooting test. | Use OBS’s maintained YouTube endpoint options, but do not assume a particular endpoint is required in India. |
| IPv4-only makes no difference | The protocol preference was not the cause. | Restore the default IPv4/IPv6 setting. |
