That status does not promise you can finish the game or get satisfactory performance. Before applying an update or per-game settings, identify your copy’s game ID, then consult the current God of War III entry in the official RPCS3 Wiki. The available evidence does not establish a reliable, current set of renderer, CPU, resolution, or performance settings, so an old forum or video recipe should not be treated as an official configuration.
This guide focuses on what can be checked before you change anything: the compatibility status, the five listed regional IDs, the update information shown for each, and where to look for current game-specific guidance. It also explains how to approach controller setup and troubleshooting without assuming that a particular PC, controller, or configuration will work.

Check whether your copy is listed and set expectations
RPCS3’s Compatibility List entry for God of War III was marked Ingame and showed a last-updated date of 2025-03-14. RPCS3 uses that category for games that cannot be finished, have serious glitches, or have insufficient performance. It is not a softer version of a Playable rating: it means you should expect that problems may prevent a satisfactory playthrough.
The list changes frequently, so treat that date and status as what the entry displayed, not as a live test of your PC or a promise about the current emulator build. Check the current entry before changing settings. Your hardware, game build, and emulator build can affect your experience; the listing does not establish a performance target for any particular PC.
#1 Best Overall
- True to the series roots, the four pillars of game play - brutal combat, intricate puzzles, exploration of awe-inspiring worlds
- God of War III is the epic conclusion to the Greek mythological trilogy, which will complete Kratos' story
- New deadly weapons like the Cestus, powerful metal gauntlets with devastating strength, and other brutal instruments of war
- The menacing creatures of Greek mythology can now be manipulated against their will, to cross chasms, inflict blind rage against enemies
- God of War III picks up exactly where God of War II left off ? Kratos must take his quest for vengeance to the very stronghold of the Zeus.
That distinction matters when deciding whether to keep troubleshooting. “Ingame” does not mean that every copy will fail, but neither does it confirm that a game can be completed. The category includes several different kinds of limitation: a game might stop progressing, show serious glitches, or run too slowly. A positive result in one section, such as reaching a menu, would not by itself establish that a full playthrough is possible. Likewise, another player’s successful test would not guarantee the same outcome on a different build or system.
Use the compatibility listing as a starting point, not as a benchmark or a pass/fail test for your particular computer. It does not specify a minimum PC configuration, a frame-rate target, or settings that guarantee a result. If you are deciding whether to spend time configuring the game, factor in the possibility that a limitation may remain even after you follow the current documented guidance.
Identify your game ID before choosing an update or settings
The compatibility entry lists five disc IDs for God of War III. Find the ID associated with your own game and use that row when checking the update and per-game guidance. Do not assume that an update or configuration for one ID automatically applies to another.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Game ID | Update shown in the RPCS3 listing |
|---|---|
| BCAS25003 | v01.03 |
| BCES00510 | v01.03 |
| BCES00799 | v01.03 |
| BCKS15003 | v01.03 |
| BCUS98111 | v01.03 |
These are the update entries shown for each ID in the compatibility listing; verify the current listing for your ID before relying on them. The listing does not establish that the regional game versions are interchangeable, nor does the displayed version by itself tell you whether an update is required for your copy.
For a practical check, first locate the identifier associated with the copy you intend to use. Compare it character by character with the IDs in the table; several begin with similar letters and numbers, so do not select a row based on region assumptions or a partial match. Then consult the current compatibility entry for that same ID. If the ID you have does not match one of the listed entries, pause rather than borrowing instructions for a seemingly similar regional version.
The v01.03 entries are a report of what the Compatibility List displayed, not proof that every copy has that update installed or needs it. The listing also does not say that version numbers with the same digits are interchangeable across regional IDs. Match the update information to the game ID and confirm the current entry before acting. If the row has changed since the listing’s displayed date, use the current row rather than relying on an older copy of the information.

Use the current game-specific guidance, not a guessed preset
For a per-game configuration, open the current God of War III page in the official RPCS3 Wiki and confirm that its instructions match both your game ID and the RPCS3 build you are using. Follow the settings and fixes documented there for that combination. The general RPCS3 configuration help is useful for emulator concepts, but it does not establish God of War III-specific CPU, GPU, renderer, resolution, patch, or performance recommendations.
No verified current preset is established here. In particular, do not copy a renderer choice, decoder setting, resolution scale, or patch list from a dated guide simply because it once worked for someone else. A historical 2017 report in the RPCS3 forum thread for BCUS98111 documents an earlier attempt, not a present-day recipe. If the current Wiki entry does not offer a setting for your exact case, leave the relevant option at its normal/default state rather than inventing a game-specific override.
There are two different documentation needs here. General configuration help can explain what an emulator option does, while a game-specific page can say whether RPCS3 documents an adjustment for this title. Do not treat a general explanation of an option as a recommendation to change it for God of War III. Before editing a setting, make sure the advice actually concerns this game and applies to your ID and emulator build. If the page provides alternatives, follow its explanation of when to use them rather than combining settings from separate examples.
The official RPCS3 Wiki’s game page is the recommended place to check for current per-game configuration. That is a navigation step, not a claim that a specific setting has been verified here. The exact current CPU, GPU, renderer, patch, resolution, and performance instructions were not recovered from the official documentation available for this guide. As a result, it would be misleading to turn common emulator settings into a purported God of War III preset or to label an old configuration as “best.”
The RPCS3 forum thread for God of War III [BCUS98111] contains user reports from 2017, including a reported Vulkan configuration. Those posts may be useful as a record of past attempts, but they do not establish current compatibility, current settings, or a configuration for the other four IDs. The same caution applies to old videos: a configuration shown for a past build should not be treated as current official advice unless the current Wiki confirms it.
A careful setup sequence
- Check the compatibility entry. Search RPCS3’s Compatibility List for God of War III and note the displayed status and date. Use it to set expectations, not as a guarantee that the game will complete on your system.
- Confirm your game ID. Match your copy to one of the five IDs in the table. If you cannot establish which ID you have, pause before applying an ID-specific update or per-game instruction.
- Check the matching update entry. Look up the row for your ID in the current listing. It showed v01.03 for all five IDs when the cited entry was last updated, but the current entry is the authority for whether that information has changed.
- Read the matching Wiki page. Use the official God of War III page for game-specific configuration and fixes, and confirm that the advice is applicable to your ID and emulator build. Do not substitute old forum posts or videos for current documentation.
- Change only documented options. Apply the listed game-specific guidance and avoid stacking unrelated tweaks. Keeping a record of each change makes it easier to identify which adjustment coincides with a new problem.
- Test the result in the game. Check the part of the game where you see the problem, rather than judging from the emulator opening or a brief menu visit. If the result remains unstable or the game cannot progress, record your ID, emulator build, settings changed, and observed symptom before seeking help in current RPCS3 support channels.
This order avoids a common configuration mistake: starting with a list of settings before confirming which game and documentation those settings refer to. The compatibility entry gives you the status and IDs; the Wiki is where to check current title-specific instructions; your own test tells you whether the documented change addressed the symptom on your setup. These steps answer different questions, so one does not replace the others.

- The God of War Collection includes: God of War and God of War II on one Blu-ray Disc for play on the PlayStation 3.
- Rediscover two of the most highly praised games ever developed for the PS2 in advance of the upcoming release of God of War III on PS3.
- Remastered in high-definition at a resolution of 720p and including anti-aliased graphics for 60 frames per second gameplay.
- Full PlayStation Network (PSN) Trophies support for each game.
Keep your changes narrow enough to undo. If the Wiki documents a setting for your case, change that option and note what you changed before testing. Avoid applying several unrelated changes at once, because a new problem would then be harder to connect to its cause. If you cannot find a current instruction for a particular option, do not infer a value from an unrelated title or an older configuration.
Controller setup is optional
A physical controller is an optional input choice, not a requirement established for this game. RPCS3’s FAQ documents support for multiple configurable controller types, but the available guidance does not verify a particular brand, model, connection method, or button layout for God of War III. Choose an input device RPCS3 recognizes and configure it through the emulator’s current controller documentation. If controls are the only issue, troubleshoot input separately from graphics or performance settings so that unrelated changes do not complicate diagnosis.
The practical answer to “Do I need a specific controller?” is no specific model is established as necessary by the documented information here. A gamepad is a reasonable optional choice, but RPCS3’s general support for multiple configurable controller types should not be mistaken for a guarantee about every device or connection setup. Consult current RPCS3 controller instructions for the device you have, and verify that the problem is actually input-related before changing game-specific graphics or performance options.
Quick wins for a faster PC:

If you already have a recognized input device, the relevant next step is to configure it according to current emulator documentation rather than purchase a named model on the assumption that God of War III requires it. Keep controller troubleshooting separate from other configuration: if the picture or performance is the issue, changing input settings is unlikely to answer that question.
What to do when the game does not work well
Start by separating the symptom from the presumed cause. A failure to launch, a rendering problem, a control issue, and slow or inconsistent performance are different problems; changing several unrelated settings at once makes it harder to determine whether any change helped.
- If you are unsure whether an update applies: compare the game ID first, then check the current compatibility entry for that exact ID. Do not infer regional interchangeability from the fact that the listing shows the same version number for multiple IDs.
- If an online setting conflicts with current guidance: prefer the current game-specific Wiki page for your ID and build over an old forum post or video. The forum thread contains historical reports, not a verified contemporary configuration.
- If performance is inadequate or progress stops: remember that Ingame explicitly includes insufficient performance and games that cannot be finished. A settings change is not guaranteed to remove those limitations.
- If a setting appears to make things worse: undo the last change and retest before making another. Keep notes on the prior value and the symptom; that gives you a clearer report if you need help.
When asking for help, a concise report is more useful than a broad claim that “the game is broken.” Include the game ID, the RPCS3 build you are using, the exact point or symptom you observed, and any documented settings you changed. If the problem began after an adjustment, say which setting changed and whether reverting it changed the result. This does not guarantee a fix, but it helps others distinguish an ID mismatch, an input problem, a rendering symptom, and a possible compatibility limitation.
Rank #4
Do not assume that a performance problem means your PC lacks a particular part or that one renderer will resolve it. No minimum PC specifications or verified performance target are established by the compatibility entry described here. Similarly, if the game cannot progress, do not assume that a generic setting tweak will make completion possible; the Ingame category specifically includes titles that cannot be finished.

The evidence supports a concrete starting point: confirm the compatibility status, identify your game ID, check its listed update, and follow current per-game Wiki instructions. It does not support a universal graphics or performance preset, a completion guarantee, or a claim that a particular PC specification will make the game run well. Because compatibility information can change, recheck the official entry when you configure the game rather than treating a dated status as permanent.
The Compatibility List entry displayed God of War III as Ingame, with an update date of 2025-03-14. It listed BCAS25003, BCES00510, BCKS15003, BCES00799, and BCUS98111, with v01.03 shown for each. Those details are useful for identifying the row to check, but they are not evidence that regional versions are interchangeable or that the same configuration is appropriate for every ID.
There is no verified comparison of two current configuration presets to recommend, and no confirmed hardware specification, cost, or controller model to quote. If the current Wiki offers alternatives for your build or ID, compare only the trade-offs it documents and use that page’s current instructions. Otherwise, avoid presenting one option as faster, more stable, or more compatible without evidence for that claim. A careful, documented setup is the most reliable approach available: verify the copy, consult current official guidance, change only supported options, and judge the result by testing the issue you actually experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can RPCS3 run God of War III to completion?
RPCS3’s Compatibility List displayed the game as Ingame, not Playable. Ingame includes games that cannot be finished, have serious glitches, or have insufficient performance, so neither completion nor satisfactory performance is guaranteed.
What are the God of War III game IDs, and which update is listed?
The listed IDs are BCAS25003, BCES00510, BCES00799, BCKS15003, and BCUS98111. RPCS3’s Compatibility List showed v01.03 for each. Check the current entry for your exact ID before relying on that information.

Are the five regional versions interchangeable?
The Compatibility List does not establish that they are interchangeable. Match any update or per-game guidance to the ID associated with your own copy rather than assuming another region’s instructions apply.
What settings should I use for God of War III?
Check the current God of War III page in the official RPCS3 Wiki and confirm its guidance applies to your game ID and emulator build. No current renderer, CPU, resolution, patch, or performance preset is established here; avoid treating dated forum or video settings as current official recommendations.
Do I need a particular controller or PC specification?
No specific controller model or minimum PC specification is established by the documented information here. RPCS3’s FAQ describes support for multiple configurable controller types, so a physical controller is optional. Consult current controller documentation for your device.

What should I do if the game still has glitches or will not progress?
Check that you used guidance for the correct ID and build, then isolate the symptom and undo any recent undocumented change before testing again. Record your ID, RPCS3 build, settings changed, and the point where the issue occurs. The Ingame status means some problems may not be resolved by configuration changes.
The Bottom Line
Start with the right ID, not a guessed preset. RPCS3 listed God of War III as Ingame in an entry updated 2025-03-14, with v01.03 shown for five IDs. Verify your copy against the current Compatibility List, follow the current game-specific Wiki guidance for that ID and build, and expect that performance or completion may remain limited.
