To run a 24/7 YouTube playlist through SRS, use FFmpeg or a playout application to sequence authorized videos, publish that feed to SRS, then publish from SRS to YouTube using the current RTMPS address and stream key. SRS is a relay/media server—not a playlist scheduler—so continuous operation also depends on compatible media, process supervision, monitoring, and recovery planning.
Understand the signal path
- Prepare the playlist: Use FFmpeg or a playout system to sequence the news clips or other media you have permission to broadcast.
- Publish to SRS: Send the resulting stream to an SRS server reachable by the publishing process. SRS’s RTMP documentation shows an FFmpeg example publishing to
rtmp://localhost/live/livestream; replacelocalhostwith the SRS host address when the publisher runs elsewhere. See SRS RTMP documentation. - Publish onward to YouTube: Configure an outbound publishing process to use YouTube’s current RTMPS ingest endpoint and the stream key supplied in YouTube Studio or the applicable LiveStreams API response.
- Monitor each boundary: Check playlist playback, SRS ingest, outbound publishing, and YouTube’s live health view separately. A healthy SRS input does not by itself prove that YouTube is receiving the feed.
SRS supports RTMP, WebRTC, HLS, HTTP-FLV, and SRT, but these protocols serve different connections. In this path, the local publisher-to-SRS connection may use RTMP; YouTube’s final destination is RTMPS. SRS describes itself as “a simple, high-efficiency, real-time media server.” See the SRS project overview.
Configure the YouTube RTMPS output
Use the endpoint and stream key currently shown for your broadcast rather than copying credentials or an ingest URL from an old tutorial. Google’s RTMPS guidance specifies port 443 and says the connection must use the server hostname for TLS SNI. The current ingestion address is also available in the LiveStreams API response field cdn.ingestionInfo.rtmpsIngestionAddress. Follow Google’s RTMPS ingestion guide for the connection details and client requirements.
- Keep the stream key private; treat it like a password and do not embed it in public scripts, screenshots, or repositories.
- Preserve the hostname required for TLS SNI when configuring an RTMPS client. Connecting to an IP address in place of the hostname can prevent the TLS connection from being established correctly.
- Verify the outbound publisher’s status and YouTube’s live health indicators after starting the stream. Diagnose the SRS-to-YouTube leg separately from the playlist-to-SRS leg.
Build a playlist that can run continuously
Use concat only with compatible files
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads files in sequence and adjusts timestamps using each input’s duration. Its documentation requires the files to have the same streams, codecs, and time base. If those conditions are not met, direct concatenation may fail or produce playback problems; inaccurate duration information can create gaps or artifacts. Review the FFmpeg documentation, including its concat demuxer section.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Inspect or normalize mixed-source clips
Before putting clips from different sources into a single concat list, inspect their stream layouts and timing. If they are not compatible, normalize them to a consistent profile or use a playout approach that handles differing inputs. Do not assume that a concat list alone will create seamless transitions.
Design for changing schedules and missing media
A news playlist may change while it is on air, and files may arrive late or be unavailable. Decide how the playlist should handle updates, missing files, the end of the list, and restarts. The right behavior depends on your media library and installed FFmpeg version; test it with the actual files and operational schedule rather than assuming one universal recipe.

Plan for failures across the whole chain
A continuous stream depends on multiple components that can fail independently: the playlist reader or encoder, SRS, the network path, and YouTube ingest. Use process supervision with restart rules and alerts, and monitor each component. The sources cited here do not establish a particular supervisor, monitoring product, or uptime figure, so choose and test tools appropriate to your deployment.
- Test recovery from a stopped playlist process, an SRS restart, a lost network connection, and a failed YouTube publishing session.
- Confirm that a restarted process resumes the intended playlist position or follows your chosen restart policy.
- Check that outbound publishing reconnects with the current YouTube connection details and that the stream key remains protected.
- Do not describe a setup as guaranteed 24/7: “24/7” is an operating goal, not an uptime guarantee.
Choose where the processes run
You can run FFmpeg and SRS on hardware you manage or on rented compute; the appropriate option depends on your operational skills, compute and bandwidth needs, recovery requirements, and hosting terms. A separate playout system may simplify playlist sequencing, while FFmpeg may suit operators who can configure and maintain its media pipeline. Whether to publish directly to YouTube or relay through SRS is also a design choice: use SRS when its relay role fits your topology, not as a substitute for the playlist or recovery design.

India-specific checks before going live
Before operating a continuous news stream from India, verify current YouTube account eligibility, live-stream availability, duration and archive rules, and any requirements that apply to your account in YouTube Studio and current YouTube Help materials. Also confirm that you have the rights needed for every video, audio track, and other material you rebroadcast. A news topic or publicly accessible clip does not, by itself, establish permission to retransmit it. Applicable legal requirements depend on the content and circumstances; this configuration guide does not determine whether a particular rebroadcast is lawful.

Troubleshoot common failures
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube shows no incoming signal | Outbound publishing process, RTMPS endpoint, stream key, port, or TLS SNI hostname | Confirm the current endpoint and key, check that the client connects using the required hostname for TLS SNI, and verify the RTMPS connection on port 443. |
| SRS receives a feed, but the YouTube stream is absent | SRS-to-YouTube publishing leg | Check the outbound publisher and YouTube’s live health view; do not treat successful SRS ingest as proof that the onward connection works. |
| Clips fail at transitions or show gaps and artifacts | Concat input compatibility or file duration metadata | Check that inputs have matching streams, codecs, and time base. Inspect duration accuracy and normalize incompatible media or use a playout method suited to the files. |
| The stream stops after a process or network interruption | Supervision and recovery behavior | Check whether the affected playlist, SRS, or outbound publishing process restarted; configure and test restart rules and alerts for each independent component. |
| The stream starts but does not follow the expected schedule | Playlist update, missing-file, or restart policy | Test how the playlist handles late or unavailable files, updates while running, end-of-list behavior, and process restarts using the installed software and actual media. |
