To send an SRT transport stream from an AWS Elemental Live event, open Output Groups > Reliable TS, add an output, set Delivery Protocol to SRT, then configure the connection mode, receiver address and port, latency, and matching encryption settings. Get those values from the downstream administrator first: they depend on the receiver and network, not on a universal preset.

Before configuring the output: coordinate the endpoint

Ask the downstream administrator for the details below before editing the event. AWS notes that preparation depends on whether the receiver uses caller or listener mode; the rest of the output is configured through the common workflow.

  • Receiver role: caller or listener.
  • Destination address and port: obtain the IP address and port for each destination you plan to use.
  • Latency: agree on a value with the receiver and configure a close match at both ends. AWS does not prescribe a universal latency value.
  • Encryption: establish whether encryption is off or uses AES 128, AES 192, or AES 256. If enabled, exchange the passphrase securely and ensure both endpoints use matching settings.
  • Network access: confirm the Elemental Live system can reach the destination. This can require opening ports at the destination or allowing traffic from Elemental Live’s public IP address.

If you need redundancy, confirm both that the receiver can accept two streams and switch to the alternate, and that your content provider can supply two completely identical source copies. If either condition is missing, use a single destination. Amazon Web Services’ SRT preparation guidance covers these coordination requirements.

Create the SRT output in the event

  1. Open the event in AWS Elemental Live and go to Output Groups.
  2. Choose Reliable TS, then select Add Output.
  3. Set Delivery Protocol to SRT.
  4. Set SRT Connection Mode to match the downstream endpoint role, using the pairing table below.
  5. For the primary destination, enter the receiver’s IP address and port. AWS shows srt://192.168.1.2:5000 as an example only; use the actual address and port supplied for your deployment.
  6. Set the interface if your deployment requires one. Check the field’s UI tooltip and your network configuration rather than assuming an interface value.
  7. Enter the coordinated latency value.
  8. Choose None or the agreed AES encryption level. If encryption is enabled, enter the agreed passphrase.
  9. Add a secondary destination only when redundancy has been confirmed by both the receiver and source provider.
  10. Save or apply the output using your event’s normal workflow, then verify that the receiver accepts the connection and receives the stream.

See AWS’s Creating the output instructions for the documented field workflow.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Choose the connection mode by the receiver’s role

Downstream endpoint role Elemental Live SRT mode Handshake initiator
Listener Caller Elemental Live
Caller Listener Downstream endpoint

The caller initiates the SRT handshake; the listener accepts or rejects it. These roles determine who initiates the connection, not who sends the program: Elemental Live remains the sender in both configurations. Match the configured roles at both ends and ensure the initiator can reach the listening endpoint over the network. AWS explains the role behavior in its SRT output documentation.

Use the MediaConnect path for a MediaConnect SRT flow

For a destination that is an SRT flow on AWS Elemental MediaConnect, AWS recommends a Reliable TS output group with the AWS Elemental MediaConnect option, rather than the generic SRT output. The generic SRT option is intended for downstream systems other than MediaConnect. Choose the path that matches the actual receiver. See AWS’s output types for non-AWS destinations for the documented distinction.

Check software support and the stream ID detail

AWS’s output-type table lists SRT for live transport stream output in the Reliable TS group and identifies Elemental Live 2.22.2 as the version that introduced the option. This is a historical introduction point, not confirmation that the option is enabled on a particular appliance; verify the software version installed on your system in AWS’s output type table.

AWS states in Getting ready: “Elemental Live doesn’t use an SRT stream ID when delivering output.” Do not add an SRT stream ID as a required delivery setting for this workflow.

Troubleshoot connection and delivery problems

  • Handshake does not complete: check that Elemental Live’s SRT mode is opposite the receiver’s role as shown in the table, then confirm the caller can reach the listener at the configured address and port.
  • Connection times out or cannot reach the destination: verify the IP address and port with the receiver and check firewall rules, destination port access, and any allowlist for Elemental Live’s public IP address.
  • Encrypted connection is rejected: confirm both endpoints use the same encryption choice—None, AES 128, AES 192, or AES 256—and, when encryption is enabled, the same passphrase.
  • Packet recovery or latency is unsatisfactory: coordinate a close latency value with the receiver and ensure both sides use the agreed target. AWS does not specify one value suitable for all deployments.
  • Secondary stream is unusable: confirm the receiver supports two simultaneous streams and failover, and that the source copies are completely identical. Remove the secondary destination if those requirements are not met.
  • SRT is unavailable in the output choices: verify the installed Elemental Live software version against AWS’s output type table; the table identifies 2.22.2 as the introduction version, but does not establish availability on every appliance or configuration.
