You can play Amazon Luna with a compatible game controller connected by Bluetooth or a data-capable USB cable; an Amazon Luna Controller is optional. Connect the controller to your device, open Luna in the app or a compatible browser, and start a game. If you have the Amazon Luna Controller, you can also use its app-assisted Cloud Direct setup.
Connect a compatible controller to Luna
- Put your controller into pairing mode using its own instructions, or connect it to your device with a USB cable that supports data.
- Pair or connect it to the device you will use for Luna. Controller and device compatibility matters; check Amazon’s compatibility guidance for your setup.
- Open the Luna app or Amazon Luna in a compatible browser.
- Select a game and play.
Amazon also documents computer play with a keyboard and mouse. Its instructions do not mean every Bluetooth gamepad works with every Luna device.
Set up the Amazon Luna Controller
The Amazon Luna Controller setup guide calls for the controller, two AA batteries, a mobile device with the Luna Controller app, and Amazon account credentials. Amazon recommends connecting the controller to your account over Wi-Fi for the best Cloud Direct experience.
- Install the Luna Controller app on your mobile device and insert two AA batteries in the controller.
- Hold the controller’s Home button for about three seconds, until the Home light circles orange.
- Wait about 30 seconds, sign in to the app, and choose Set up New Luna Controller.
- Follow the app’s prompts. A compatible Echo or Fire TV may attempt to connect to Wi-Fi automatically.

Choose how the Amazon Luna Controller connects

Use a third-party controller with Cloud Direct
Amazon documents an app-assisted route for compatible third-party controllers. Open Luna on a compatible device or browser, connect the third-party controller to a mobile device using Bluetooth or USB, then open the Luna Controller app and select Launch under Connect non-Luna Controllers. Fix Luna Controller Bluetooth pairing problems
- Verify compatibility. Check that both the controller and the device you want to play on are supported using Amazon’s compatibility information.
- Make the device discoverable. Turn on Bluetooth and set the phone, computer, or TV to discover new devices.
- Put the controller into pairing mode. With working batteries installed, hold Action + B for about three seconds, until the indicator blinks white. The compatible device should support Bluetooth 5.0.
- Reset and pair again if it still will not connect. Hold Home + Menu for six seconds to factory-reset the Luna Controller, then repeat pairing.
- Install Amazon’s driver for Windows Bluetooth. Amazon says that without the driver, button mapping can be incorrect.
- Try another documented connection route. If available for your devices, use Cloud Direct or a data-supported USB-C cable instead of Bluetooth.
Amazon’s Bluetooth troubleshooting page recommends checking compatibility and discoverability, then resetting and pairing again. The setup guide lists the reset combination and Windows driver note. If setup or Wi-Fi errors persist, Amazon directs users to its troubleshooting pages or customer service.

Amazon’s UK connection guidance says the Luna Controller supports offline gameplay on PC, Mac, Android, and iOS, but offline play over USB and Bluetooth on iOS below version 16 is unsupported. This qualification concerns offline gameplay and does not mean those connection methods are universally unavailable for Luna streaming; check Amazon’s current guidance for your device and region.
