Yes. You can connect a Sony DUALSHOCK 4 to Apple TV wirelessly over Bluetooth. Sony lists support from tvOS 13 onward, and Apple includes the controller among those supported for Apple TV. Pair it using Share + PS, then choose it in Apple TV’s Bluetooth settings. It will work in games and apps that support controllers—not necessarily throughout the tvOS interface.
What you need
- An Apple TV HD or Apple TV 4K running compatible, updated tvOS software. Sony’s stated minimum for DUALSHOCK 4 support is tvOS 13. Apple’s current controller list includes the Sony PlayStation DualShock 4. Sony’s compatibility and pairing guidance and Apple’s supported-controller information provide the requirements.
- A charged DUALSHOCK 4 and your Apple TV remote for setup.
- The controller disconnected from any USB cable and not actively reconnecting to your PS4.
Put the DUALSHOCK 4 in pairing mode
- If the controller is on, hold the PS button until it turns off.
- Disconnect its USB cable, if one is attached.
- Press and hold Share.
- While holding Share, press and hold PS until the light bar flashes. The flashing light means the controller is discoverable for Bluetooth pairing.
Pair it from Apple TV Settings
- On Apple TV, open Settings > Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth.
- Wait for DUALSHOCK 4 Wireless Controller to appear under available or other devices.
- Select it and wait for Apple TV to finish connecting. The controller should show as connected rather than merely discoverable.

Use Control Center instead
On supported current tvOS software, hold the TV button on the Apple TV remote to open Control Center, select Game Controllers, then choose the DUALSHOCK 4. Apple documents this route alongside the Settings method in its controller connection instructions.
Test it in a compatible game
Open a game that explicitly supports game controllers and try the controls there. Successful Bluetooth pairing does not mean every Apple TV app or system screen accepts the controller. If a game does not respond, check its own controller-support information before treating the connection as a failure.

What works—and what may not
The DUALSHOCK 4 can control compatible tvOS and Apple Arcade games. Apple also supports custom controller profiles and, where available, Buddy Controller, which lets two compatible controllers act as one player. Customization settings require tvOS 16 or later, and the options depend on the controller and app. See Apple’s guide to game controllers on Apple TV.
Not every DUALSHOCK 4 feature is available over Bluetooth on Apple TV. Sony identifies touchpad use, light-bar color control, rumble, motion-sensor functions and headphone-jack audio as unsupported or limited for non-Xperia devices. Individual games and tvOS versions may expose different capabilities; do not assume those features will work just because the controller pairs. Sony lists these Bluetooth limitations.

Connecting a controller directly to Apple TV does not make it a PS4 or stream PS4 games. PlayStation Remote Play is a separate setup. You may also need the Apple TV remote for system functions or apps that do not accept controller input.
If Apple TV cannot find the controller
- Check that the DUALSHOCK 4 light bar is flashing. If it is not, turn the controller off with the PS button and repeat the Share-then-PS pairing sequence.
- Unplug the controller’s USB cable before entering Bluetooth pairing mode, and make sure its player indicator is off.
- Move the controller close to Apple TV and make sure it is not reconnecting to the PS4. Turning off the console or moving it out of range can help.
- Temporarily disconnect other Bluetooth accessories, then try pairing again.
- If Apple TV already lists the controller, select its entry and choose Forget This Device, then restart pairing.
- Restart Apple TV and try again. If pairing succeeds but a particular game ignores input, close and reopen the app and verify that the game supports controllers.

Reconnect the controller to your PS4
- Connect the controller to the PS4 with a compatible USB cable that supports data, not just charging.
- Press the PS button and wait for the console to register it.
- Disconnect the cable and use the controller wirelessly if desired.

Apple says Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD support up to four Bluetooth game controllers, or one controller when Apple TV is also using a Bluetooth audio accessory. If a controller disconnects during play, check its battery, distance from Apple TV, wireless interference and the number of active Bluetooth devices. Apple’s limit is described in its wireless game-controller support information.

If you already own a working DUALSHOCK 4, try it before buying another controller. Apple also lists PlayStation DualSense, Bluetooth-capable Xbox Wireless Controllers and MFi-compatible controllers; the right choice depends on your preferred layout and the games you play. Each remains subject to app support and platform limitations. A USB connection is not a universal Apple TV fallback: Sony says direct USB pairing to an Apple device requires a data-and-charging cable, but Apple TV must also have a compatible, accessible USB connection.
