Yes—you can use a PS5 DualSense controller with an ASUS ROG Ally, Ally X, or compatible ROG Xbox Ally in two ways: pair it wirelessly over Bluetooth, or connect it with a USB-C data cable. Bluetooth is best for cable-free play; USB-C is usually the more dependable option and is required for some supported PC features, including haptic feedback.
Connecting the controller to Windows is straightforward. However, game compatibility varies: a title may show Xbox button prompts, ignore the controller, or support only some DualSense features such as haptics, adaptive triggers, gyro, touchpad, microphone, or speaker.

Bluetooth or USB-C: Which method should you use?
| Method | Best for | Charging | DualSense features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | Wireless handheld or docked play | Uses the controller battery | Depends heavily on the game; PC haptics may require USB |
| USB-C | Reliability, long sessions, and troubleshooting | Charges while connected | Best chance of using supported haptics and adaptive triggers |
Sony supports DualSense connections to Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 through Bluetooth or USB. See Sony’s DualSense connection guide for the supported connection methods and feature limitations.

Method 1: Connect the PS5 controller by Bluetooth
- If the controller is on, hold the PS button until it turns off.
- Disconnect any USB cable from the DualSense.
- Hold the Create button and PS button together until the light bar begins flashing.
- On the Ally, open Windows Settings.
- Choose Bluetooth & devices and turn Bluetooth on.
- Select Add device > Bluetooth.
- Choose the controller, which usually appears as Wireless Controller.
- Wait for Windows to show it as connected, then launch or restart your game.
Windows should stop the flashing light and list the DualSense as paired or connected. Test the sticks, buttons, triggers, and vibration before starting a long session.
You can also manage Bluetooth devices through Armoury Crate SE. Depending on your Ally model and software version, the relevant controls may appear under Armoury Crate’s connection or external-controller settings. ASUS documents these controls in its Armoury Crate SE support guide.
If the controller does not appear
- Turn the DualSense off and disconnect its cable.
- Hold Create + PS until the light flashes.
- Toggle Bluetooth off and on in Windows.
- Remove an old Wireless Controller entry from Settings > Bluetooth & devices, then pair again.
- Move the controller close to the Ally and restart the Ally if necessary.
- Reset the DualSense only after the other steps fail. Sony’s support guide explains the reset procedure.
Method 2: Connect the PS5 controller with USB-C
- Turn on the ROG Ally.
- Connect the USB-C end of a data-capable cable to the DualSense.
- Connect the other end to the Ally or to a compatible USB-C dock.
- Wait several seconds while Windows identifies the controller.
- Launch the game and test the controls.
No Bluetooth pairing is needed for USB play. The controller should be detected automatically, and its battery can charge while connected. Charging speed depends on the Ally port, cable, dock, and power arrangement.
If the game was already running, close it completely and reopen it after connecting the controller. Some games detect controllers only during startup. A dock can be useful when you need to charge the Ally, connect a display, or use other peripherals, but port layouts and charging support vary by Ally model.
Make the DualSense work in games
There are two separate questions: Does Windows detect the controller? and Does this particular game accept its input? A successful Bluetooth or USB connection does not guarantee that every launcher or game will recognize it.

Steam games
First check whether the game has native DualSense support. If it does not respond correctly, open Steam’s Settings > Controller area and review its controller or Steam Input options. Menu labels can change with Steam updates, so look for the game’s PlayStation-controller support or Input configuration.
After changing the setting, close and restart the game. Steam Input can translate controller input for games that otherwise expect an Xbox-style XInput controller, but it may also replace native DualSense features or create duplicate input if another remapping tool is active.
Recommended Free Tools
Microsoft notes that some PC games may need Steam Input or DS4Windows for full compatibility. Try the game’s native support and Steam’s built-in options before installing additional software.
Xbox app, Game Pass, Epic, Ubisoft, and other launchers
Many Windows games are designed around Xbox-style XInput controllers. The DualSense can therefore show as connected in Windows while the game ignores it or recognizes it only partially.
Start by checking the game’s own controller settings and any built-in PlayStation support. If the game still does not recognize the controller, use a reputable compatibility layer only when necessary. Do not run Steam Input, DS4Windows, DSX, and other remappers together unless you deliberately need multiple virtual-controller layers.

- Haptic feedback - Feel physically responsive feedback to your in-game actions with dual actuators which replace traditional rumble motors. In your hands, these dynamic vibrations can simulate the feeling of everything from environments to the recoil of different weapons. .Operating temperature : 41 °F to 95 °F (5 °C to 35 °C)
- Adaptive triggers - Experience varying levels of force and tension as you interact with your in-game gear and environments. From pulling back an increasingly tight bowstring to hitting the brakes on a speeding car, feel physically connected to your on-screen actions.
- Built-in microphone and headset jack - Chat with friends online using the built-in microphone or by connecting a headset to the 3.5mm jack. Easily switch voice capture on and off at a moment’s notice with the dedicated mute button. Internet and account for PlayStation Network required.
- DualSense Controller PS5 and PC compatible. Not compatible with PS4.
- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Native DualSense features
Feature support is title- and connection-dependent. Sony states that supported PC games may offer haptic feedback through USB, while adaptive triggers may also require USB. Bluetooth does not guarantee the full PS5 experience.

Fix common problems
Windows says “Connected,” but the game does nothing
- Close the game completely.
- Pair or connect the DualSense before reopening it.
- Test the controller in Steam or a Windows controller test screen.
- Review Steam Input or the game’s controller settings.
- Disable other remapping tools temporarily.
- Check whether the Ally’s built-in controls are also active.
If the game expects XInput, a compatibility tool may be needed. Use one layer at a time so you can identify which configuration works.
The game shows Xbox button prompts
This usually means the game is using Xbox-style PC conventions, not that pairing failed. Look for a PlayStation-button or icon setting in the game. Otherwise, you can use the equivalent button positions or try Steam Input. Not every game can be forced to display PlayStation symbols.
The controller is detected twice
The Ally’s built-in controls may still be exposed alongside the DualSense. Steam Input or another remapper may also have created a virtual controller. In Armoury Crate SE, review the available control-mode and external-controller options and temporarily disable the Ally’s embedded controller if your software version provides that option. Exact labels vary between Ally generations and Armoury Crate SE versions.

The controller reconnects to the PS5
A nearby PS5 may capture the controller’s reconnection attempt. Temporarily turn off Bluetooth activity on the PS5, then put the DualSense into pairing mode with Create + PS and pair it with the Ally again.
Sony has announced multi-device pairing behavior for supported controller firmware, but availability and behavior can vary by controller firmware and device. Do not assume every DualSense has identical multi-device support.
There is no vibration or haptic feedback
Check whether the game supports DualSense features on PC and whether it requires USB. Connect the controller with a data cable, restart the game, and review its vibration settings. Standard rumble and advanced haptics are not supported identically by every game.

Do you need DS4Windows or DSX?
No. You do not need third-party software merely to pair a DualSense with the Ally.
Steam Input is the first option to try for Steam games that need translation or remapping. DS4Windows can be useful for non-Steam games that do not recognize the DualSense and need XInput emulation, but it adds another virtual-controller layer.
DSX is an optional paid Steam utility for advanced profiles, remapping, lighting, adaptive-trigger controls, and related DualSense customization. It is unnecessary for ordinary Bluetooth or USB play and can conflict with Steam Input or other remappers. If you install it, use only the controller layers you actually need.
Bluetooth versus USB-C: final choice
Choose Bluetooth when you want a cable-free setup and need to keep the Ally’s USB-C ports available. Choose USB-C when reliability, charging during play, headset support, or supported PC haptics and adaptive triggers matter more than convenience.
The simplest workflow is to pair the DualSense natively first. If Windows detects it but a game does not, restart the game, check its controller settings, and then try the launcher’s built-in compatibility option before adding third-party software.
