Connect the SuperStation One’s HDMI output directly to an available HDMI input on your TV using the HDMI cable included with the console. Select that input on the television, then power the console with a USB-C Power Delivery charger. During first setup and troubleshooting, leave HDMI switches, capture cards and adapters disconnected: the official setup documentation warns that intermediary devices can change HDMI EDID behavior and produce a blank screen.
What you need for the basic connection
A modern television with an HDMI input is all that is required for the normal SuperStation One video connection. The console package includes an HDMI cable, so an additional cable is not part of the required setup. You also need a USB-C Power Delivery charger for the console; power and video are separate connections, and a correct HDMI path cannot compensate for a console that is not booting.

- SuperStation One console
- The included HDMI cable
- A free HDMI input on the television
- A USB-C PD charger for power
For initial setup, the official SuperStation Documentation recommends connecting the console directly to the display before powering it on. Do not put an HDMI switch, AV receiver, capture card, HDMI adapter or other intermediary between the console and TV until you have confirmed that the basic connection works.

Use the console’s HDMI port, not the dock’s port
The SuperStation One and its dock can have ports that look similar at a glance. The video connection for a modern TV is the HDMI output on the SuperStation One console itself. The HDMI-shaped connector on the dock is an expansion slot and does not send video to the television.

This is the most important physical check if the TV reports “no signal.” Follow the cable from the television back to its source and verify that it ends at the console’s actual HDMI output. A cable inserted into the dock’s expansion connector can be fully seated and still produce no picture because that connector is not a video output.
Step-by-step: connect the SuperStation One to the TV
- Turn the TV off or leave it on its home screen. You can make the connections with the display powered, but starting from a known state makes input selection easier.
- Insert the HDMI cable into the SuperStation One’s HDMI output. Use the port on the console body, not the dock’s HDMI-shaped expansion port.
- Connect the other end to a free HDMI input on the TV. Note the input label, such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 2, because you will need to select that same input in the television’s source menu.
- Connect the console directly to the TV. Leave switches, receivers, capture devices, splitters and adapters out of the signal path for this first test. The official guide identifies HDMI EDID negotiation through intermediary equipment as a possible cause of a blank screen.
- Choose the matching input on the TV. Use the TV remote’s Input, Source or similar control and select the HDMI socket used in the previous step.
- Connect USB-C PD power to the console. Retro Remake’s SuperStation One setup guidance recommends a 9V/3A USB PD profile. Its documentation also says that 5V or 12V can work when the charger supports USB PD.
- Power on the console after the HDMI and power cables are connected. Watch for the console’s normal startup display. If there is no image, keep the direct connection in place while following the troubleshooting sequence below.
Power requirements are separate from the HDMI connection
The HDMI cable carries the display signal; it does not power the SuperStation One. Use a USB-C charger that supports USB Power Delivery. The recommended profile in the official setup material is 9V/3A. The same guidance states that 5V or 12V may work when delivered through a charger with USB PD support.
Do not treat the presence of a cable or a briefly illuminated indicator as proof that the console has completed its boot process. The official troubleshooting material lists power, firmware and SD-card checks separately from TV and HDMI checks. A black screen can therefore be a startup problem rather than a television-compatibility problem.

Connection options for a modern television
| Connection path | Display input | Extra conversion required | Use for initial setup? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Console HDMI output directly to TV HDMI input | HDMI | None | Yes; this is the official recommended configuration |
| Console HDMI output through a switch, capture card, adapter or other intermediary | HDMI or the intermediary’s output | Depends on the device | No; add these only after a direct signal is confirmed |
| Analog-output path for a legacy display | Matching analog input | Not stated in the reviewed SuperStation setup documentation | Not needed for a modern HDMI television |
For a current TV, direct HDMI is the simplest and best-defined route. The official setup material does not provide a compatibility matrix covering every television brand or model, so a working direct connection should not be presented as a guarantee for every display on the market. If a particular TV does not show an image, testing another display is a practical way to separate a TV-specific issue from a console, cable or startup issue.
If the TV says “no signal” or the screen is blank
Work through these checks in order. Change one thing at a time and leave the console connected directly to the TV until the picture is restored.
1. Confirm the selected HDMI input
Use the television remote to open its source list and select the exact HDMI input where the cable is plugged in. TVs often have several physically separate inputs, and selecting HDMI 2 while the cable is in HDMI 1 produces the same symptom as a disconnected console.

3. Check the port on the console
Trace the cable to the SuperStation One itself. It must be in the console’s HDMI output. The dock’s HDMI-shaped expansion port does not provide video, so moving the plug from the dock to the console is essential if it was connected incorrectly.
4. Remove every HDMI intermediary
Disconnect HDMI switches, AV receivers, capture cards, splitters, converters and adapters. Connect the console straight to the TV and repeat the input-selection and power-on steps. The official guide notes that intermediary devices can affect HDMI EDID—the exchange in which the display and source identify supported modes—which can leave the TV blank even when every cable is connected correctly.
5. Try another known-good HDMI cable
The supplied cable is the intended starting point, but a cable can be damaged or defective. Substitute a cable that is known to carry a signal from another device, then test the direct console-to-TV path again. An extra cable is therefore a troubleshooting or replacement option, not a requirement for the normal package setup.
6. Test another HDMI input
Move the cable to a different HDMI socket on the same television and select that input. This can identify a problem limited to one TV input. Keep the console and the cable unchanged during this test so the result remains useful.

7. Try a different display
If available, connect the console directly to another television or to a computer monitor. The official guide specifically notes that computer monitors often accept a broader range of display resolutions and can be useful during initial setup or troubleshooting. A picture on the second display points toward a TV-specific input or compatibility issue; no picture anywhere means you should continue checking the console’s power and startup condition rather than assuming the original TV is at fault.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to distinguish a display problem from a boot problem
A black screen is not automatically an HDMI-compatibility failure. Once the cable is in the correct console port and the direct path has been tested, consider whether the SuperStation One is actually completing startup.
- Display-path symptoms: the console appears to be running, but the TV reports no signal; another cable, input or display changes the result; or removing an HDMI intermediary restores the picture.
- Power symptoms: the console does not appear to start, behaves inconsistently when powered, or changes behavior when the USB-C PD supply is changed.
- Firmware or SD-card symptoms: the official troubleshooting page treats firmware and SD-card problems as separate boot/setup checks. If those checks apply, follow that documentation instead of repeatedly swapping TV inputs.
Keep the console connected directly to the TV while investigating startup. This prevents an HDMI switch or capture device from introducing a second variable into a problem that may originate on the console itself.
When to add a switch, receiver or capture card
After a direct connection produces a stable picture, you can reintroduce other equipment one component at a time. For example, reconnect an HDMI switch, select its input, and verify the image before adding a capture card or receiver. If the picture disappears after a particular device is inserted, remove that device and return to the direct console-to-TV configuration.

- BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE: Works with earlier versions to allow for use with a wide range of HDMI-enabled devices
This staged approach matters because the official documentation identifies EDID behavior as a reason an intermediary can result in a blank screen. It does not establish that every switch, receiver or capture device will fail, nor does it provide a universal compatibility list. The reliable baseline is the direct HDMI path; additional equipment is an optional layer that must be checked in your own setup.
Using a computer monitor as a diagnostic display
A monitor with an HDMI input can be useful when the television shows no image. The official guide says computer monitors often support a broader range of display resolutions, making one a practical display for initial setup or troubleshooting. Connect the console directly to the monitor, select the monitor’s HDMI input and power the console with the same USB-C PD arrangement.
If the monitor displays the console while the TV does not, inspect the TV input, the TV’s source selection and the television-specific signal path. If neither display shows an image, return to the console-port, cable, direct-connection and power checks, then consult the official firmware and SD-card startup guidance.
Modern TVs versus legacy displays
The direct HDMI instructions are intended for a modern television with an HDMI input. Analog video is relevant only when the target display is an older set that lacks HDMI. The reviewed official setup material does not specify an analog conversion workflow, a required scaler or a particular legacy-display accessory, so those details should not be assumed from the modern-TV procedure.
If your television has HDMI, do not add an analog converter or scaler merely because the console is an FPGA system. The basic connection requires neither. Start with the console’s HDMI output and the TV’s HDMI input, then introduce other hardware only if a specific display or installation requires it.
A reliable first-setup checklist
- The cable is plugged into the SuperStation One console’s HDMI output.
- The other end is plugged into a real HDMI input on the television.
- The TV is set to that exact HDMI input.
- The console is connected directly to the TV, with no switch, capture card, adapter or receiver in between.
- The console is powered by a USB-C PD charger; 9V/3A is the recommended profile in the setup guidance, while 5V or 12V may work when supplied through USB PD.
- Both HDMI plugs are fully seated.
- A second known-good HDMI cable has been tried if the supplied one fails.
- A different HDMI input or another TV/monitor has been tested if the first display remains blank.
- Power, firmware and SD-card startup checks have been considered separately from TV compatibility.
What the correct result looks like
With the HDMI cable in the console’s output, the TV on the matching input, a direct signal path and suitable USB-C PD power, the SuperStation One should present its startup display on the television. If the picture is absent, the fastest route is not to buy a converter: verify the port and input, remove intermediaries, test another cable and display, and then investigate power or boot conditions as separate possibilities.
