Which Game Pass plans include EA Play?
As of August 18, 2026, EA lists EA Play for PC with PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. Ultimate also includes EA Play on Xbox. Game Pass Core and Game Pass Standard do not include EA Play. EA Play Pro is a separate membership, not included with either Game Pass plan, and is available on PC through the EA app. Catalogs and benefits can vary by region, platform, game, and time; inclusion does not mean every EA game or edition is available.

What you need before linking accounts
- A Microsoft account with an active PC Game Pass or Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
- The Xbox app for Windows, signed into that Microsoft account.
- An EA Account, which you can create during setup if needed.
- The EA app for Windows.
- A Steam account and the Steam client if you want to link Steam or play a Steam-owned EA game.
- An internet connection and the correct sign-in details for each account.
Xbox lists Windows 10 or Windows 11, version 22H2 or higher, for PC Game Pass on its US page. Update the Xbox app, EA app, and Steam before troubleshooting a linking error. If you want your EA identity and any game-supported progression to stay associated with one account, use the same EA Account for both the Xbox/Microsoft and Steam links.
Connect PC Game Pass to EA Play
- Check the subscription: Open the Xbox app, sign in with the Microsoft account that owns PC Game Pass or Ultimate, and confirm the subscription is active. Find an EA Play title in the app’s EA Play section or Play List.
- Install or update the apps: Make sure the Xbox app and EA app are installed and up to date. Game Pass is managed through the Xbox app, while EA Play titles provided through the subscription use the EA app.
- Start the game from Xbox: In the Xbox app, select an included EA Play game and choose Install or Play. Allow the EA app to open when prompted.
- Sign in and approve the connection: In the EA app, sign in to the EA Account you intend to use, or create one, then follow the prompts to connect your Xbox/Microsoft identity. Use an existing EA Account if it is already linked to your Steam account or contains game progress you want to keep together.
EA’s setup instructions direct first-time Windows users to sign in to the Xbox app and launch a game from the Play List. This first launch establishes the connection used for EA Play access through the EA app. See EA’s PC Game Pass and EA Play instructions and Xbox’s PC Game Pass requirements.

Link Steam to the same EA Account
This is a separate connection from linking Xbox/Microsoft. You can connect Steam in EA Account settings or follow the prompt the first time you launch a Steam-owned EA game.
Link from EA Account settings
- Sign in to the EA Account you used for Game Pass.
- Open Connected Accounts.
- Choose Steam, then select Continue.
- Sign in to Steam and approve the connection.
Link while starting a Steam game
- Install or launch an EA game you own through Steam.
- Install the EA app if prompted, then sign in to the EA Account used for Game Pass.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to connect Steam, and restart the game if requested.
EA says Steam needs to be linked once for the first EA game played through Steam. Its account-linking guide explains how to review linked platforms.
What linking does—and what it does not do
The EA Account is a shared account connection point, not a combined storefront. A Game Pass EA Play entitlement is accessed through the Xbox app and EA app; a Steam copy is licensed through Steam. Linking accounts does not give Steam a Game Pass license, turn a Game Pass installation into a Steam game, or merge the Xbox, EA, and Steam libraries.

- Use the Xbox app to start a PC Game Pass EA Play title, with the EA app handling the EA connection and game access.
- Use Steam to start an EA game you own through Steam, with the EA app involved when required.
- Expect to need a Steam license or other Steam access to play the Steam version.
- Do not assume saves, achievements, DLC, or progression transfer between storefronts. Cross-progression depends on the individual game, and DLC compatibility can depend on the game and storefront.
If you want a Steam-specific license, achievements, community features, or Steam library entry, use a Steam copy. If you want Game Pass access, launch the included title through Xbox and EA rather than expecting it to appear as owned on Steam.
Verify the account links
- Sign in to the EA Account used during setup.
- Open Connected Accounts.
- Check that the intended Xbox/Microsoft and Steam accounts are listed.
If one is missing, confirm you are viewing the correct EA Account before attempting another link. Do not create a second EA Account or unlink accounts casually: platform links can be difficult to move.
Troubleshoot common problems
EA Play says you need to subscribe, or the game says “Buy”
- Confirm the Xbox app is signed into the Microsoft account with the active subscription.
- Confirm the EA app is signed into the EA Account connected during the first launch.
- Check that the title is currently included in the EA Play catalog and available for PC in your region.
- Start the title from the Xbox app rather than installing or launching it independently from another storefront.
- Update both apps. If the entitlement still does not appear, close the game and both apps, reopen Xbox, verify the account, and launch the title again. Restart Windows if needed.
EA’s EA Play troubleshooting guide recommends checking the account signed into the EA app when membership access is not recognized.

The Xbox app opens the wrong EA Account
Sign out of the EA app and sign back in to the intended account. Check Connected Accounts before trying again. If you cannot access the original EA Account, try account recovery before creating another one.
Steam is already linked to another EA Account
Sign in to the EA Account currently connected to Steam and check Connected Accounts. Try to recover that account before unlinking. EA says a Steam account can be unlinked and connected to a different EA Account only if the previous link is more than 12 months old. If you cannot identify or recover the old account, contact EA Support rather than repeatedly unlinking and relinking.
The Steam version does not recognize Game Pass
That is normally expected: Steam is starting a Steam-owned copy, while Game Pass provides a separate entitlement through Xbox and EA. Linking Steam to the same EA Account connects account identity; it does not move the Game Pass license to Steam. You need access to the game through Steam to play its Steam version.

DLC, saves, or progression are missing
Account linking does not guarantee that DLC or saved data will work across storefronts. Confirm that the base game and add-ons are for the same platform and compatible edition. Check the specific game’s support information for cross-progression or cross-save support before assuming progress will carry over.
The EA app will not open or the entitlement still will not refresh
Close the game and both launchers, update the Xbox and EA apps, then reopen Xbox and launch the title there. Restart Windows if the account and subscription are correct but access remains unavailable. If the issue concerns subscription status, contact Xbox Support; if the subscription is active but the EA account link or EA app entitlement is failing, consult EA’s troubleshooting guide or contact EA Support.

PC Game Pass bundles standard EA Play for PC; it does not bundle EA Play Pro. EA Play Pro is a separate premium membership through the EA app and is not available through Steam or Epic. If you already paid for EA Play on PC through the EA app and then get Game Pass, remaining EA Play PC time is not converted into Game Pass time; EA Play Pro cannot be transferred to Xbox. PC Game Pass includes EA Play member discounts for eligible EA digital content in the EA app store. Ultimate discounts can be used in the Microsoft Store or EA app store, subject to terms and exclusions. A discount does not apply to every product, and buying DLC on Steam should not be assumed to work with an EA app or Game Pass installation.
Choose the route that matches how you play
- PC Game Pass plus EA app: A fit if you want the PC Game Pass and included EA Play catalogs and are comfortable using Xbox and EA apps together.
- Steam: A fit if you own the game there or value Steam-specific features such as achievements, cloud features, controller configuration, or community tools.
- EA app membership: A fit if you want EA Play Pro or prefer an EA-app license and launcher.
These services can coexist, but they are separate storefront and license systems. Choose the one that provides the access you actually want; linking accounts is for connection, not cross-store ownership.
