You do not need the Galaxy Wearable app, a phone, or a Bluetooth transmitter for the basic connection. Put the earbuds into pairing mode, open the console’s Bluetooth audio settings, and select the Buds.
The important caveats are that Nintendo does not support Bluetooth microphone input, only one Bluetooth audio device can be active at a time, wireless-controller capacity is reduced, and Bluetooth audio may have noticeable delay.

Quick answer
- Charge the Galaxy Buds and case.
- Disconnect the Buds from nearby phones, tablets, computers, or TVs, then put them into Bluetooth pairing mode.
- On the Switch, open System Settings → Bluetooth Audio → Pair Device.
- Select the Galaxy Buds when they appear.
Nintendo supports Bluetooth audio on the original Nintendo Switch family—Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED—and on Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo maintains separate instructions for each generation, so the steps below distinguish them.
Before you start
- Update the console: From the HOME Menu, open System Settings → System → System Update.
- Charge the earbuds: Low battery can prevent pairing or cause disconnections.
- Stop automatic reconnection: Turn off Bluetooth on the phone, tablet, PC, or TV that normally connects to the Buds.
- Keep the Buds nearby: Place them close to the console while pairing.
- Check controllers: Nintendo limits Bluetooth audio use to no more than two connected wireless controllers. A pair of Joy-Con counts as two controllers.
- Do not open Galaxy Wearable: The Switch pairs with the earbuds through its own Bluetooth Audio menu.
Nintendo’s Bluetooth audio instructions for Switch and its separate Switch 2 guide both recommend updating before pairing.

Put each Galaxy Buds model into pairing mode
The pairing gesture differs considerably between Samsung earbuds. Being powered on is not always enough: the Buds must be discoverable by the Switch.
| Samsung earbuds | Pairing procedure |
|---|---|
| Galaxy Buds, Buds+, Buds Live, and Buds Pro | Put both earbuds in your ears and touch and hold both touchpads for several seconds, until the pairing sound is heard. |
| Galaxy Buds2 and Buds2 Pro | Put both earbuds in the open charging case and touch and hold both earbuds’ touchpads simultaneously until the case lights flash. |
| Galaxy Buds3 and Buds3 Pro | Put both earbuds in the case, close and reopen the lid, then press and hold the case’s Connect button for at least three seconds. |
| Newer or different models | Check the model’s manual for its exact pairing control. Samsung may use a case button or a different touch-control sequence. |
These procedures are based on Samsung’s Galaxy earbuds connection guide. Samsung notes that opening the case may automatically start pairing when the Buds are not connected elsewhere. If they are attached to a phone or another device, use the manual pairing procedure instead.
Connect Galaxy Buds to Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, or Switch OLED
- From the HOME Menu, select System Settings.
- Scroll down and select Bluetooth Audio.
- Select Pair Device.
- Wait several seconds while the console searches for nearby devices.
- Select the Galaxy Buds from the list.
Once the connection completes, game audio should play through the earbuds. Adjust the volume on the console and the Buds if necessary.
The original Switch family can save up to 10 Bluetooth audio devices, but only one Bluetooth audio device can be connected for active use at a time.
Connect Galaxy Buds to Nintendo Switch 2
- Update the console through System Settings → System → System Update.
- Disconnect wireless controllers until no more than two remain connected.
- Put the Galaxy Buds into searchable pairing mode.
- From the HOME Menu, open System Settings.
- Select Bluetooth Audio.
- Select Pair Device.
- Choose the Galaxy Buds when they appear.
These steps follow Nintendo’s Switch 2 Bluetooth audio support page. Switch 2 also limits Bluetooth audio use to two wireless controllers.

| Feature | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Game audio | Supported through a direct Bluetooth connection. |
| Bluetooth microphone | Not supported. The Buds’ microphones cannot be used as a Switch game-chat microphone through this connection. |
| Active Bluetooth audio devices | Only one can be connected at a time, although the console can save up to 10 devices. |
| Wireless controllers | No more than two wireless controllers may be connected while Bluetooth audio is in use. |
| Audio delay | Possible. The amount depends on the earbuds, connection conditions, firmware, and supported audio protocols. |
| Local wireless multiplayer | Bluetooth audio may disconnect when local communication begins. |
| Samsung ecosystem features | Do not expect every Samsung feature to work on Nintendo hardware. |
Nintendo explicitly warns about Bluetooth latency, microphone support, controller limits, and local-wireless interruptions in its Switch support documentation and Switch 2 documentation.
No microphone or normal Buds voice chat
Galaxy Buds may have built-in microphones, but a direct Bluetooth connection to the Switch is for listening only. Nintendo does not support Bluetooth microphone input. Voice chat therefore depends on the game and its separate supported chat method; connecting Buds directly does not add a working wireless chat microphone.
Samsung Gaming Mode and Auto Switch are not guaranteed
Features designed for Samsung phones, tablets, or other Galaxy devices do not automatically transfer to a Nintendo console. Samsung’s Auto Switch documentation describes ecosystem-dependent behavior, while Samsung’s compatibility information indicates that some features are unavailable on other Bluetooth devices. Standard audio streaming is the relevant feature here, not the complete Galaxy Buds feature set.

Troubleshooting
The Switch cannot find the Galaxy Buds
- Confirm that the Buds are in actual pairing mode, not merely switched on.
- Turn off Bluetooth on nearby phones, tablets, computers, and TVs.
- Put both earbuds in the case, close the lid, wait several seconds, reopen it, and repeat the model-specific pairing gesture.
- Restart the Switch.
- Install any available system update.
- Disconnect wireless controllers until two or fewer remain.
- Move the Buds closer to the console.
- Remove unused saved Bluetooth devices if the console has reached its 10-device limit.
- Try pairing a different Bluetooth audio device. If that also fails, the issue may be with the console rather than the Buds.
Nintendo’s new-device troubleshooting guide recommends updating, restarting, removing saved devices, and trying the pairing process again.
The Buds appear, but pairing fails
- Remove the Galaxy Buds from System Settings → Bluetooth Audio.
- Restart the console.
- Disable Bluetooth on the device that normally connects to the Buds.
- Put the Buds back into pairing mode.
- Open Bluetooth Audio → Pair Device and select them again.
For Switch 2, Nintendo specifically recommends removing a saved device and pairing it again when a saved Bluetooth audio connection will not work. See its saved-device troubleshooting instructions.
The Buds keep reconnecting to the phone
This is one of the most common causes of failed discovery. Turn off Bluetooth on the phone temporarily, or disconnect the Buds from its Bluetooth settings. Then place the Buds into pairing mode before selecting Pair Device on the Switch.
Samsung may synchronize pairing information across Samsung devices signed into the same account, but that does not mean the Buds can stream audio from the Switch and those devices simultaneously.
The Buds connect and then disconnect
Try the following:
- Turn off Bluetooth on nearby devices that may reclaim the Buds.
- Restart the console and earbuds.
- Remove the saved pairing and add the Buds again.
- Reduce the number of connected wireless controllers.
- Test outside local wireless multiplayer.
Bluetooth audio can disconnect when local communication starts, so that behavior may be a Nintendo limitation rather than an earbud fault.

While fully compatible with iOS devices via Bluetooth, certain features like ANC customization and 360 Audio are exclusive to Galaxy Android devices.
The sound is delayed or poor
Some delay is a normal possibility with Bluetooth audio. Nintendo does not provide one universal latency figure for Galaxy Buds, and the result can vary by Buds model, firmware, console software, wireless conditions, and audio support.
If timing-sensitive games are affected, try wired earbuds or a dedicated gaming headset with a receiver or transmitter designed for low-latency audio. Do not assume that Samsung Gaming Mode or a Samsung-exclusive codec will operate on the Switch.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do you need a Bluetooth transmitter?
Usually, no. Try the Switch’s built-in Bluetooth Audio menu first. A transmitter is worth considering only if native pairing is unreliable, Bluetooth delay is unacceptable, you need a particular dock or handheld arrangement, or you specifically want a transmitter designed around a low-latency connection.
Before buying one, check:
- USB-C and dock compatibility with your exact Switch model.
- Whether it supports the earbuds’ relevant audio protocols or codecs.
- Whether it can pass through charging when used in handheld mode.
- Its physical clearance around the console or dock.
- Whether it supports one or two audio devices if that matters to you.
- Whether its advertised microphone support actually applies to Nintendo Switch.
A transmitter can add cost, bulk, charging requirements, and another possible failure point. It also should not be assumed to restore Nintendo’s unsupported Bluetooth microphone functionality.

Bottom line
Pair your existing Galaxy Buds directly through System Settings → Bluetooth Audio → Pair Device; an adapter is not required for normal game listening. The key is using the correct Samsung pairing procedure and preventing a nearby phone from taking control of the earbuds.
Expect audio-only use: no supported Bluetooth microphone, one active Bluetooth audio device, a two-controller limit, possible latency, and possible disconnection during local wireless communication.
