To join an ARK server on PlayStation, open the edition you own, use its in-game server browser, and search with filters that match the server. In ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA), choose Join, open Unofficial, search the exact server name, set filters to All, refresh, select the result, and choose Join. In ARK: Survival Evolved (ASE), choose Join ARK, set Session Filter to UNOFFICIAL PC SESSIONS, set MAP and GAME MODE to ALL, match the password filter, turn off AUTO FAVORITE PLAYED SESSIONS, then search and join.

The most common reason a server appears to be missing is a mismatch between the edition, server name, map, session type, or password setting. ASE on PlayStation does not crossplay with PC or Xbox. ASA has broader cross-platform features, but the server owner and current platform policy still determine which players can connect.

Identify the ARK edition before you search
PlayStation has two separate ARK products with different browser menus. A server running one edition will not appear in the other edition’s browser, even when the server name and map are identical.
| Edition | PlayStation join menu | Important platform note |
|---|---|---|
| ARK: Survival Evolved (ASE) | Join ARK | PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions do not support crossplay with PC or Xbox. |
| ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA) | Join, then Unofficial | ASA launched on PlayStation on November 30, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific and includes broader cross-platform features, subject to server configuration and current platform policy. |
Ask the server owner which edition, map, and access settings are active. Do not assume that a server advertised as “ARK” supports both editions; the owner must run and configure each edition separately.
Join an unofficial ASA server on PS5
These steps apply to ARK: Survival Ascended on PlayStation 5. ASA’s current joining method is the browser built into the game.
- Launch the correct game. Start ARK: Survival Ascended, not ARK: Survival Evolved. Wait for the main menu to load completely.
- Open the server browser. Select Join.
- Choose the unofficial list. Open the Unofficial tab. A server rented or privately configured by a player is normally listed here rather than with official servers.
- Enter the exact server name. Type the name supplied by the host. Preserve spaces, punctuation, numbers, and capitalization as closely as the browser allows. Searching for only a distinctive word can produce a different server or no result if the browser is filtering exact text.
- Remove restrictive filters. Set the available filters to All while locating the server. Narrow the map, mode, region, or other options only after the server appears.
- Match password visibility. If the host enabled a password, turn on the option that includes password-protected servers. If the server has no password, turn that option off. A filter that excludes password-protected servers will hide a protected server even when the name is correct.
- Refresh the list. Refresh after entering the name and changing filters. If the result does not appear, refresh again; a server may not be displayed on the first refresh.
- Select the server and join. Highlight the matching result, verify its name and map, and choose Join. Enter the password when prompted.
What to do if an ASA server is not listed
- Confirm that both you and the host are using ASA, not ASE.
- Copy the server name from the host and search it without adding extra words.
- Set filters to All and include password-protected servers when appropriate.
- Refresh more than once. The browser can take more than one refresh to show a newly started or newly changed server.
- Ask the host whether the server is running and whether a platform restriction is enabled. A server can be online yet intentionally unavailable to a particular platform.
Join an unofficial ASE server on PS4 or PS5
Use this procedure for ARK: Survival Evolved. The menu labels are different from ASA, and the session filter is essential.
- Launch ASE. Open ARK: Survival Evolved on your PS4 or PS5.
- Open the browser. Choose Join ARK from the main menu.
- Set the session type. Change Session Filter to UNOFFICIAL PC SESSIONS. Despite the word “PC” in this label, this is the browser category used to find many unofficial dedicated servers from PlayStation.
- Broaden map and mode filters. Set MAP to ALL and GAME MODE to ALL. A selected map or mode can hide a server that otherwise matches its name.
- Match password visibility. Set SHOW PASSWORD PROTECTED to match the server. Turn it on for a password-protected server; turn it off when the host has not set a password.
- Disable automatic favorites. Turn off AUTO FAVORITE PLAYED SESSIONS while searching. This prevents the browser’s favorites behavior from narrowing the list when you are trying to locate a server for the first time.
- Search the exact name. Enter the complete server name supplied by the host. Check hyphens, brackets, spacing, and any map or community tag in the name.
- Refresh the list. Use the refresh control after changing the filters. If the server is absent, refresh again rather than concluding immediately that it is offline.
- Select and join. Highlight the correct result and choose Join. Supply the password if the host requires one.
Primitive Plus servers
If the server uses the Primitive Plus total conversion, start Primitive Plus from the ARK main menu on the console before opening the browser. Searching from the standard ASE mode can prevent a Primitive Plus server from appearing in the expected results.
Fix a missing server systematically
Work through these checks in order. Each one removes a specific reason the browser can exclude a valid result.

1. Verify the edition and console target
Ask the host whether the server is ASE or ASA and launch that exact product. ASA and ASE have separate server populations. Also confirm that the host has enabled PlayStation access; an owner can configure a server for a limited set of platforms even when the edition itself supports more than one platform.
2. Use the complete server name
Server owners often add map names, rates, language tags, or bracketed prefixes. Search the name exactly as supplied. If a long name is difficult to enter with a controller, ask the host for a shorter identifying portion and then inspect the returned results for the full name.

3. Clear every filter that can exclude it
For ASA, use the Unofficial tab and set filters to All. For ASE, use UNOFFICIAL PC SESSIONS, MAP: ALL, and GAME MODE: ALL. Do not leave a previous map, mode, or session selection active from an earlier search.
4. Match the password setting
The password-visibility control is an inclusion filter, not a password-entry preference. If the host protects the server, the browser must be allowed to show protected servers. If the host does not use a password, disable that filter when the menu offers the choice. A mismatch can hide the server before you ever reach the password prompt.

5. Refresh repeatedly
Refresh after every meaningful filter change. Nitrado’s joining instructions note that a server may not appear on the first refresh, so repeat the refresh before changing unrelated settings.
6. Check host-side changes
For ASE, the host must stop the server before changing its name or other general settings, save the changes, and restart it. Searching while the old instance is still running can leave you looking for a name that has not yet been applied. Ask the owner when the restart finished and which exact name is now active.

If the host runs Primitive Plus, start Primitive Plus from the console’s ARK main menu before searching. Otherwise the server can remain absent even when the edition, name, and filters are correct.
8. Separate browser problems from account or network problems
If the server appears but joining fails, record the exact error and tell the host. If no servers appear at all after the edition and filter checks, use the game’s normal online-service and PlayStation support channels. There is no single universal PlayStation NAT, router-port, outage, or account-setting fix established for every ARK edition and server configuration, so avoid changing router settings at random; first determine whether the failure is a missing listing, a password rejection, or a connection attempt that starts and then stops.

Understand PlayStation crossplay
ASE: no PlayStation crossplay with PC or Xbox
The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of ARK: Survival Evolved do not support crossplay. An ASE server reached from PlayStation is therefore not a route to playing with PC or Xbox users. A friend on another platform needs a compatible edition and platform-supported server arrangement; simply sharing the server name will not overcome the ASE platform limitation.
ASA: broader support, but not automatic access
Studio Wildcard announced the PlayStation launch of ASA for November 30, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific and described cross-platform mods and an official-server rollout. ASA can therefore support a wider mix of platforms than ASE, but “cross-platform” does not mean every server accepts every platform. The host can configure access and the platform holder’s current policy can affect availability. Before buying or configuring a server for a mixed-platform group, ask the owner to confirm the exact supported platforms for that server.
Edition compatibility matters more than crossplay
Crossplay is evaluated only after the players are on a compatible edition. An ASA player and an ASE player cannot meet on one server merely because both use a PlayStation 5. Start by matching the game edition, then verify platform support, map, mod, and password requirements.

| Option | Persistence | Platform compatibility | Access control | Map and mod support | Capacity and cost |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Public unofficial server | Usually remains available according to the owner’s schedule and subscription; you do not control its uptime. | Determined by the edition and the owner’s platform settings. | May be open or password-protected; the owner controls the rules. | Determined by the server configuration and the edition’s supported content. | Normally no direct rental payment for a player; player capacity and rules vary by server. |
| Friend-hosted session | Typically tied to the host’s play session rather than a continuously running world. | Limited by the edition, console ecosystem, and the host’s session settings. | The host controls who receives an invitation or session access. | Limited to what the host’s session and edition support. | No dedicated-server rental required; practical capacity and tethering behavior depend on the session type. |
| Rented dedicated server | Designed to stay online when the owner is away, subject to the hosting service and maintenance. | Configured at setup and restricted by the edition’s crossplay rules. | Supports a server name and password, with additional controls where the edition provides them. | Map and mod availability depends on the edition, server software, and host controls. | Current price, region, plan limits, and player capacity must be checked in the host’s current listing. |
For a persistent private world that friends can visit without waiting for one person to host, dedicated hosting is the practical option. For a short cooperative session, a friend-hosted world may be sufficient. A public unofficial server is the quickest route when you accept the owner’s rules and schedule.

Set up a server so PlayStation players can find it
Choose the edition and platform at order time
When renting an ASE server, select the PlayStation-compatible platform option at the time of ordering. ASA hosting uses the platform and crossplay controls offered for that edition. Do not assume that a generic ARK plan automatically produces a server visible in the PlayStation browser.
Give the server a searchable name
Use a distinctive name that players can type accurately. Keep the important identifier near the beginning, and tell players the exact punctuation and spacing. If you change the name on an ASE server, stop the server first, save the general-settings change, and restart it before asking players to search again.
Set the password deliberately
Decide whether the world is open or restricted. Give players the exact password and tell them whether the server is protected, because their browser’s password filter must match your setting. A player who cannot see the listing may have the wrong visibility filter even when the password itself is correct.
Tell players the edition, map, and special mode
A useful invitation includes the edition (ASE or ASA), the map, the server name, whether it is password-protected, and whether it uses Primitive Plus or another supported configuration. This information lets PlayStation players set the browser correctly on the first attempt.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteConfirm cross-platform policy before inviting other devices
For ASE, do not promise PC or Xbox access to PlayStation players because the PlayStation versions do not support that crossplay. For ASA, verify the server’s enabled platforms and current policy with the host before inviting players from another platform.
A printable connection checklist
- Identify whether the server is ASA or ASE.
- Launch that exact edition on PS4 or PS5.
- Use ASA’s Join → Unofficial path, or ASE’s Join ARK path.
- Enter the exact server name.
- Clear restrictive filters.
- For ASE, select UNOFFICIAL PC SESSIONS, MAP: ALL, and GAME MODE: ALL.
- Make the password-protected-server setting match the host.
- For ASE, turn off AUTO FAVORITE PLAYED SESSIONS.
- For Primitive Plus, start Primitive Plus before searching.
- Refresh at least twice if the first search is empty.
- Confirm with the host that the server is running, renamed settings were saved after a stop-and-restart, and PlayStation access is enabled.
- For mixed-platform groups, verify the edition and server-specific crossplay policy before inviting anyone.
What the successful connection should look like
A correctly configured search returns a server entry whose name and map match the host’s instructions. Selecting it takes you to the join action, followed by a password prompt when protection is enabled. If the name never appears, remain in the browser and correct the edition, session category, map or mode filters, password visibility, and refresh state before treating it as an outage. If the entry appears but the join attempt fails, pass the exact error and the time of the attempt to the server owner so they can distinguish an access rule from a server-side problem.
