A playlist of songs found on YouTube, purchased downloads, or tracks available through a music subscription is not automatically cleared for rebroadcast. Clear the catalog first, then set up the stream, test continuity, and make a separate plan for recordings: YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured as replays.
1. Clear every recording for livestream use
Before you build the playlist, document permission for each sound recording and confirm that it covers livestreaming in every territory where you intend to make the stream available. Check that the necessary rights from artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants are covered. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility for the necessary rights worldwide on the creator.
Permission from a rights holder does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the live feed with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate the stream; even licensed material can be interrupted if its owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Ask the owner to arrange allowlisting before you go live. An allowed territory setting by itself does not ensure continuity. Archived streams may also receive Content ID claims after the broadcast. - Keep a track-by-track record of the recording, rights holder, permission, covered uses, and territories.
- Confirm that permission covers livestreaming—not just personal listening, downloading, or use in an ordinary video.
- Ask relevant rights holders whether your channel needs Content ID allowlisting and confirm it is in place before the event.
- Do not treat public availability, a purchase, or a music-service subscription as permission to rebroadcast a track.
If you cannot confirm the rights needed for a recording, leave it out. Neither an encoder nor a streaming service grants music rights.

2. Check channel eligibility and create the live event
YouTube lists a verified channel and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days among the prerequisites for going live. Check channel status before building a production around a scheduled launch. YouTube’s live streaming tips explain eligibility and preparation.
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room.
- Create or schedule the stream, then copy its server URL and stream key.
- In your encoder, enter the server URL and stream key, and configure the audio playlist and visual loop.
- Check the Live Control Room preview and stream health before starting the broadcast.
Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Keep it out of public posts, screenshots, and shared project files; reset it if it is exposed. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers the URL, key, and workflow.

3. Set encoder and network settings for a stable feed
For RTMP or RTMPS ingestion, YouTube lists H.264, H.265, or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; constant bitrate encoding; and a recommended two-second keyframe interval, with intervals no longer than four seconds. The correct bitrate depends on codec, resolution, and frame rate, so use YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate table for the configuration you choose.
A radio stream with a mostly static image does not need a high resolution simply because the music is city pop. Choose a modest resolution and frame rate that your encoder and upload connection can sustain. Set the audio quality appropriate to your source and encoder, then listen to the preview for clipping, silence, or obvious encoding artifacts.

- Use constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval where your encoder allows it.
- Match the bitrate recommendation to the actual codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than copying a number intended for a different setup.
- Test upload speed under conditions similar to the planned broadcast. YouTube advises keeping 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and accounting for both primary and backup encoder bitrates.
- Check the preview and stream-health indicators before launch, then continue monitoring while live.
See YouTube’s streaming tips for network guidance. A speed test taken when the connection is otherwise idle may overstate the bandwidth available during a long broadcast.
4. Test continuity and protect your recording
A 24/7 schedule needs a recovery plan, not just an encoder that works once. If you use a backup encoder, test the handoff before launch. YouTube suggests stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection to check whether playback rolls over to the backup. Make sure the available upload capacity can support the primary and backup bitrates as YouTube advises.

Record a local copy as well as relying on YouTube’s archive. Verify that the recording file is growing during the stream and check that the saved file plays correctly. YouTube recommends a local archive backup in its live streaming tips.
Do not assume YouTube will preserve a continuous 24-hour replay: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If an archive matters, plan intentional shorter runs or restarts and a local recording workflow, then verify the resulting files. The platform’s archive guidance explains this limitation.

5. Troubleshoot interruptions and common setup failures

6. Choose a do-it-yourself encoder or cloud operation
An encoder workflow gives you direct control over the prepared feed, including its visual loop and encoding settings. You are responsible for keeping the encoder and connection available, monitoring the broadcast, and testing recovery. A dedicated computer, local storage, and power protection are possible continuity choices, but none resolves rights, Content ID, or YouTube archive limits.
