To run a prerecorded piano lesson as a 24/7 YouTube Live stream, send it through an encoder such as OBS Studio, turn on the file’s Loop option, and connect OBS to a stream created in YouTube Studio. For multiple lessons, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. The loop repeats the video; it does not make an unattended broadcast fail-proof, so test the full setup and plan to monitor it.
Before you set up the stream
Check your channel can go live
Your channel must be verified and must not have livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time livestream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before you intend to broadcast. See YouTube’s livestreaming eligibility guidance and encoder setup guide.
Clear the rights in every part of the lesson
Check the lesson recording, piano performance, sheet music shown on screen, backing tracks, and any other included material. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the rights needed to stream the content, including music rights. A lesson being educational or prerecorded does not by itself establish that you have permission to broadcast every included work.
YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. A match can lead to a warning, a placeholder replacing the stream, interruption, or termination. Even if you have a license, a rights owner may need to allowlist your channel in Content ID for the stream to proceed without interruption. Review YouTube’s livestream terms and copyright guidance for live streams.

How to loop a piano lesson in OBS
- Create a stream in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create or select a stream. Copy its stream URL and stream key.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the stream key. Use the stream URL as well if your encoder setup asks for it. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room. YouTube explains stream setup and key management in its encoder guide and live stream settings guide.
- Add the lesson video. In OBS, add a Media Source to your scene, select the local video file, and enable Loop. OBS documents local formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. Check that the chosen file loads and that its audio is routed to the stream; formats and playback behavior can depend on your setup. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.
- For several lessons, use a playlist. Add a VLC Video source, build the playlist from your lesson files, and turn on Loop Playlist. OBS says VLC must be installed for this source type to appear. A single Media Source is simpler for repeating one continuous lesson; a playlist is useful when you want several lessons to rotate.
- Test before going live. Start an unlisted or otherwise suitable test stream, check the Live Control Room preview and public watch page, and listen for clear, undistorted piano audio. Confirm the picture advances, the lesson repeats or moves to the next playlist item, and the stream remains connected. YouTube recommends testing with representative audio and motion and checking stream health and messages. Consult its livestreaming tips.
- Start the broadcast and keep an eye on it. Start streaming in OBS, then confirm the incoming feed in Live Control Room before making the stream public or sharing it. For an extended broadcast, periodically check that the encoder is connected, the video is advancing, audio remains audible, and the watch page is available. Loop only controls replay; it cannot recover a disconnected encoder or fix a failed computer or network connection.
Encoder settings: choose for the actual connection
YouTube’s general encoder guidance recommends constant bitrate (CBR), supports H.264 video and AAC or MP3 audio, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. Resolution and bitrate depend on the output you are sending and the available upload connection, so check YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions rather than assuming one value suits every piano lesson stream. Test the actual connection and watch stream health before relying on it unattended.
Will YouTube archive a 24-hour livestream?
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise a complete archive for one uninterrupted stream lasting 24 hours or more. If you need a reliable full replay, use shorter broadcast segments or make a separate recording instead of relying on a single 24-hour archive. Details are in YouTube’s encoder guide.

When a cloud service may suit better
OBS has no separate cloud-streaming service fee, but the computer running it and its internet connection must remain available. YouTube also names Gyre as a cloud-based option in its encoder guide; check any service’s current features, price, and availability before choosing it.
Or let it run in the cloud
With StreamNeo, upload the lesson video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for prerecorded video streams to YouTube, not camera broadcasts. Start the free day with StreamNeo.

Common problems and fixes
- The stream key is rejected or no preview appears: check that you copied the key for the selected Live Control Room stream and that OBS is using the intended service and stream settings. If the key may have been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS.
- The lesson stops instead of repeating: confirm Loop is enabled on the Media Source. If using a VLC playlist, confirm Loop Playlist is enabled and VLC is installed so the source is available.
- The picture works but piano audio is missing or distorted: check that the Media Source audio reaches OBS’s active stream mix, then listen to a test feed in the Live Control Room preview. Use representative audio when testing.
- YouTube interrupts or replaces the feed: review the Live Control Room warning and resolve any rights or policy issue. For licensed third-party content, ask the rights owner whether your channel must be allowlisted in Content ID.
- The broadcast disconnects during a long run: Loop does not reconnect an encoder. Check the computer, OBS, and upload connection, then re-establish the stream and monitor its health. A cloud-based workflow can remove dependence on a home computer staying on, but still requires you to check service fit and stream status.
