To run Shabad kirtan on YouTube around the clock, enable live streaming on the gurdwara’s channel, choose a live AV feed or a cleared prerecorded program, and send it through an encoder. Test the full signal path and monitor it. For prerecorded material, a cloud loop can keep the stream running without a computer at the gurdwara. The key caveats: clear rights for the actual performance and recording, and do not rely on one 24-hour broadcast as a replay archive—YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Choose what the stream will show and how it will reach YouTube
First decide whether viewers will see a live program, a prerecorded kirtan program, or authorized audio with a static visual. This choice determines the signal path; a camera or dedicated hardware encoder is not required for a simple prerecorded loop.
| Approach | Best fit | What to plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Computer with streaming software | A volunteer can operate and maintain a computer, and the source is a live AV feed or media stored locally. | Power and internet continuity, updates, restart behavior, local recording, and who will monitor the stream. YouTube supports encoder software; it does not guarantee a computer’s uptime. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | The gurdwara already has camera or production equipment and wants an appliance-style encoder path. | Check inputs, codecs and settings, backup options, local support, and compatibility with the mixer and cameras. YouTube supports hardware encoders, but no particular model is endorsed here. |
| Managed cloud loop | The program is prerecorded and the gurdwara wants a remote service to loop uploaded media. | Check price and service limits, storage, recovery, access control, stream-key security, monitoring, rights, and archive needs. StreamNeo advertises a cloud loop for uploaded videos and automatic recovery; these are vendor claims, not an independent uptime guarantee. |
For a live camera and mixer signal, use an encoder path that accepts the production equipment’s output. For a prerecorded loop, choose between a maintained local computer and a cloud service. A cloud loop is not a replacement for a live camera feed.
Enable live streaming and prepare the YouTube event
- Confirm channel access. Make sure an authorized gurdwara administrator can sign in to YouTube Studio and manage the channel.
- Enable live streaming and verify the channel. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so complete this before the planned launch. Follow the current steps in YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide.
- Create or schedule a stream in Live Control Room. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder. Treat the key like a password: give it only to trusted operators and do not publish it in a video, document, or public chat.
- For a scheduled event, check the preview. Confirm the incoming picture and sound in Studio before starting the broadcast. A configured encoder alone does not mean the public event is live.
Set encoder quality and test the complete signal
Use a bitrate the gurdwara’s upload connection can sustain consistently, not merely a speed-test peak. YouTube’s current H.264 guidance lists 6 Mbps for 720p30 and 10 Mbps for 1080p30. For a mostly static, audio-led program, 720p30 is a reasonable starting point to test—not a universal requirement. The same YouTube settings guidance lists constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval as encoder settings.

| Output target | YouTube H.264 bitrate recommendation | When to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps | A practical test starting point for a largely static, audio-led program. |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps | Use if the source and sustained upload connection support it reliably. |
These are YouTube recommendations, not a promise that a particular network or encoder will remain stable. Follow YouTube’s encoder settings guidance and recommended live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the applicable format.
- Configure the encoder’s output resolution and frame rate; for the two documented H.264 examples above, use 30 fps.
- Set CBR and a two-second keyframe interval. Enter YouTube’s stream URL and key in the encoder.
- Run a private or otherwise suitable test with representative kirtan audio and the same motion and visuals planned for the actual program.
- Check YouTube Studio’s preview and stream health. Listen for clean, continuous audio and confirm the picture is stable before announcing the stream.
- Assign a person to monitor audio, picture, connection, and live status during operation. If viewers need replays, also make a local recording; do not assume YouTube’s archive will preserve a continuous day-long broadcast.
Clear rights before sending kirtan to the live stream
Religious or traditional subject matter does not by itself establish that a particular recording or performance is cleared for broadcast. Check the rights for the actual recording, the performers, any protected arrangement, and accompanying third-party material. Keep permission records and confirm that permission covers live streaming and any archive the gurdwara intends to publish.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A match may trigger a warning and placeholder image; if the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. For licensed third-party music, ask the rights owner to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist. YouTube notes that a license alone may not prevent interruption if the channel has not been allowlisted. A copyright or Community Guidelines strike can also result in termination. See YouTube’s live-streaming copyright guidance and YouTube’s Terms of Service.
YouTube’s platform guidance does not determine the legal status of a particular Shabad, performance, recording, or arrangement in every jurisdiction. When uncertain, obtain permission from the relevant rights holders before broadcasting.

Plan for stream continuity and replay separately
A continuous public stream and a dependable daily replay archive are different goals. YouTube says a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all, and DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable beyond 12 hours. If replayable daily programs matter, end each broadcast before it passes 12 hours, start a new stream, and retain a local recording. Read YouTube’s archive guidance and DVR guidance before settling on a schedule.
For ongoing reliability, test the full signal chain and decide who can respond if the source, connection, encoder, or YouTube event stops. The official YouTube setup guidance does not guarantee uptime for a particular computer, network, encoder, or cloud service.

Troubleshoot common problems
- Live streaming is not available yet: Check that channel activation and verification are complete. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube Studio shows no incoming preview: Check that the encoder is running and that the stream URL and key were copied correctly. Keep the key private; replace it if it may have been exposed.
- Video or audio is unstable: Test a lower output target or bitrate that the upload connection can sustain. Check the source, encoder, and connection with representative audio and motion, then review stream health.
- A third-party-content warning appears: Stop and confirm the rights for the exact recording and performance. If the use is licensed, ask the rights owner to allowlist the channel in Content ID; a license may not prevent interruption without that step.
- The broadcast ends or the archive is missing: Check the event and encoder status, then restart according to the planned schedule. Do not depend on a single broadcast longer than 12 hours for a replay; keep local recordings when an archive is important.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the stream is prerecorded rather than a live camera feed, StreamNeo is a cloud option for looping uploaded videos to YouTube. Its setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add the YouTube stream key once, and go live. The computer at the gurdwara can be off while the cloud keeps the loop running. StreamNeo says every slot supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60 fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. Each slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots, plus playlists, 24/7 looping, and StreamNeo team support. It streams to YouTube, not to other platforms.
The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo also offers daily, weekly, six-month, and yearly billing; see its pricing page for the terms shown to your region. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. Confirm rights and keep an archive plan even when using a cloud loop.
