Audacity can prepare podcast episodes, join them into a show, and repeat a selected region during local playback. It does not, by itself, send a continuous live stream to YouTube. To broadcast, export the audio for a compatible encoder—or use an encoder workflow that can play and loop the audio—and connect that encoder to YouTube Live with the stream URL and key.
What Audacity can—and cannot—do
Audacity is useful for assembling and checking your podcast audio. Its loop control repeats a marked region during playback; it is not a YouTube streaming control. YouTube requires an encoder to transmit the stream, using the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. See the Audacity Manual’s Playing and Recording guidance and YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions.
The practical workflow is to prepare the episodes in Audacity, then use a compatible encoder to send audio to YouTube. If the aim is a repeating sequence rather than one long mix, confirm that the encoder can play and loop the file or playlist; the available Audacity and YouTube instructions do not establish an Audacity-only method for sending an endlessly repeating playlist.
Prepare and check the podcast audio in Audacity
- Import the episodes. Open Audacity and import the audio files you want to use. Arrange them in the intended order on the timeline, and check that the project’s playback sounds right from beginning to end.
- Review transitions. Listen at each join. Remove accidental gaps, clipped beginnings or endings, and unwanted silence where appropriate. Keep any intentional pauses or transitions that belong in the show.
- Use loop playback to inspect a section. Mark the region you want to check and use Audacity’s loop-playback control. The manual documents the L shortcut for enabling looping. This repeats playback locally; it does not broadcast the region.
- Choose what to export. Audacity’s export options can produce the full project mix, a selected region, or audio inside the marked loop region. Export the complete assembled show if your encoder will play one finished file, or export a segment if that is what your encoder workflow needs. See Audacity’s Export your audio guidance.
- Set export options for the destination. The export dialog offers format and audio options, including mono or stereo, sample rate, and bitrate for supported formats. There is no single YouTube-specific export preset established by the cited instructions. Use a format accepted by your encoder and follow its current instructions rather than assuming a universal setting.
- Play the exported file through. Check that it opens, plays to the end, and contains the intended episode order and transitions before loading it into the encoder.
Connect an encoder to YouTube Live
- Create or schedule a stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. YouTube’s interface labels may change, so follow the current Live Control Room prompts and encoder guide.
- Copy the stream connection details. YouTube provides a Live server URL and stream key for the stream. Treat the key like a password: do not share it publicly, and use the key associated with the stream you intend to run.
- Configure the encoder. If your encoder offers YouTube as a streaming service, select it and follow its connection steps. If it does not, enter YouTube’s server URL and stream key in the encoder’s stream settings. YouTube states: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.”
- Load the audio source. Use the encoder’s supported audio-file or playlist workflow. If you need the sequence to repeat, enable its looping option and verify the behavior before going live; do not assume Audacity’s playback loop will control the encoder.
- Start the encoder and verify the preview. Start transmission and check the Live Control Room preview and stream status. For a scheduled stream, YouTube instructs creators to wait for the preview and click Go live.
- End the stream deliberately. Use YouTube’s end-stream procedure when the broadcast is finished. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; that statement does not establish the same archive behavior for streams lasting 12 hours or longer.
Check copyright and channel suitability before leaving it running
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A detected match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. YouTube also warns that having a license does not necessarily prevent interruption: the rights owner may need to allowlist the channel through Content ID. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams before broadcasting podcast music, clips, interviews, or other material you do not fully control.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Confirm that you own or have permission to broadcast every episode element, including music, clips, and inserts.
- If a rights owner uses Content ID, ask whether your channel needs to be allowlisted for the live broadcast.
- Do not treat a lack of problems during local playback as proof that the live stream is cleared; YouTube’s live scan happens on the transmitted stream.
Troubleshoot common setup problems
- You hear the loop in Audacity but YouTube is not live: Audacity loop playback is local. Start a compatible encoder and connect it to YouTube with the stream URL and key.
- The encoder will not connect: Check that the server URL and stream key match the intended YouTube stream, then review the encoder’s current connection instructions. Avoid publishing or sharing the key.
- The audio stops after one pass: Check the encoder’s file or playlist settings for repeat/loop behavior. Audacity’s loop region only repeats during Audacity playback; it does not force an encoder to restart a file.
- The export is missing part of the show: Check whether you exported the full project, a selection, or only the loop region. Export the intended scope again and play the result through before loading it into the encoder.
- The live broadcast is interrupted: Check YouTube Studio for notices and review the channel’s rights and Content ID status. YouTube may interrupt or terminate a stream when it detects third-party content, including in some cases when the creator has a license but is not allowlisted.
- The archive is not available as expected: YouTube’s cited automatic-archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. It does not promise automatic archiving for longer broadcasts.
