Plan weekday and weekend programming in an editorial calendar, then schedule a separate YouTube live broadcast for each airing in YouTube Studio. You can reuse stream settings when the encoder setup is the same, but check each event’s time, title, description, visibility, and content before publishing. A “playlist” here can mean either tracks played inside a live stream or a YouTube playlist that organizes already-published videos; scheduling a broadcast does not itself schedule track rotation.

Decide what your playlist schedule means

For a radio-style live channel, the weekday/weekend plan is the sequence of audio and video your encoder sends during each broadcast. You might plan different blocks for weekdays and weekends, but YouTube’s live scheduling controls create broadcast events; they do not, on the evidence documented here, automate track selection or rotate playlists inside a continuous stream.

A YouTube playlist is different: it groups videos already published on your channel for viewers to browse or play. Managing those collections is not the same task as scheduling a live broadcast, and the sources cited here do not establish a feature for scheduling playback of a YouTube playlist inside a live stream.

Build the weekly schedule before opening Studio

Choose a channel time zone and write down the planned airings. Decide whether a weekday or weekend program is one long broadcast or several separate shows. Set times to suit your audience; there is no universally best start time established by the sources cited here.

Calendar item What to record
Weekday block Days, start and end times, program title, and the content planned for the encoder.
Weekend block Days, start and end times, program title, and any differences in the content or stream setup.
Operations Who will start or monitor each airing, and whether the encoder settings are shared or show-specific.

Keep the calendar as your source of truth. If you change a program’s time or content, update both the calendar and its YouTube broadcast entry rather than assuming a copied event will update itself.

Schedule each airing in YouTube Studio

  1. Open the live controls. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live > Manage > Schedule Stream. You can create a new stream or choose to reuse settings from an earlier one. YouTube’s encoder streaming instructions describe this workflow.
  2. Set the event details. Enter the intended date and start time, title, description, and visibility. Confirm the time zone and that the details identify the correct weekday or weekend program.
  3. Check anything copied from a previous broadcast. Reused settings can carry over metadata, settings, the stream key, and Auto-start or Auto-stop selections. Review the values rather than assuming that only the date changed. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
  4. Create an event for every planned airing. Schedule an individual broadcast for each date and time on your calendar. Reusing settings saves setup work; it does not automatically create the next event or update its editorial details.
  5. Promote the upcoming event. Share its watch-page URL and verify the displayed date, time, and visibility. Viewers may be able to select “Notify me” for a reminder. YouTube says scheduling lets creators promote a stream and viewers get reminders for upcoming streams in its encoder guide.

Connect the encoder and start the scheduled broadcast

  1. Enter the YouTube stream URL and key in your encoder. The key is a credential that lets the encoder send a feed for YouTube to accept. Keep it private; do not include it in a public schedule or share it as event information.
  2. Start sending the planned feed. Queue the weekday or weekend content in the encoder, then begin transmitting it to YouTube before the scheduled event.
  3. Check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the incoming picture and sound are the intended program and that YouTube is receiving the feed.
  4. Start the broadcast when prompted. For the documented scheduled-encoder workflow, wait for the preview and select Go live in the Live Control Room. Follow the current prompts for the event you created.

Auto-start and Auto-stop can affect whether the encoder starts or stops a broadcast, and those selections can be included when settings are reused. They are not evidence of an automatic weekly schedule or playlist rotation. Confirm their state for each event rather than relying on a copied configuration.

Choose whether shows share a stream configuration

YouTube distinguishes the public broadcast event from the feed and settings sent by the encoder. In the API model, a liveBroadcast is an event and a liveStream represents the transmitted feed. Google’s guide explains that scheduled or recurring events can use one stream resource for broadcasts at different times; shows with different needs may use distinct streams. See Understanding Broadcasts and Streams and the YouTube Live Streaming API reference.

  • Reuse the same stream settings when the encoder delivery setup stays the same and the airings do not need different configurations. Still create and review each broadcast event.
  • Use separate stream configurations when shows need different encoder settings or must be managed independently. The API guide describes this architecture for shows with different needs or overlapping schedules.
  • Use an editorial calendar either way. Reusing a stream configuration is not the same as scheduling a recurring public broadcast.

The documented Studio workflow supports scheduling individual broadcasts and reusing settings. It does not establish a native weekly recurrence control that alternates weekday and weekend playlists, so plan to create and verify the needed events individually unless the current interface explicitly offers a suitable option.

Rights and content checks for a radio-style channel

Before scheduling music, game audio, or other recordings, confirm that you have the rights and permissions needed for the material and for the way you intend to use it. A scheduled event or a stream key does not grant permission to broadcast content. The sources cited in this guide do not establish the licensing status of any particular track, game soundtrack, or recording, so do not treat a playlist’s availability on YouTube as proof that it can be rebroadcast in a live stream.

Troubleshoot schedule and launch problems

What you notice What to check
The airing is missing or at the wrong time Check that you created a broadcast for that date, then compare its displayed time and visibility with your calendar. Do not assume a prior event recurs automatically.
The event has the previous show’s title or description Review copied metadata on the new broadcast before publishing; reused settings can include metadata.
The encoder is sending, but the broadcast has not started Check the Live Control Room preview and follow the scheduled-event prompt to select Go live when the feed is ready.
YouTube is not receiving the encoder feed Verify that the encoder has the intended stream URL and key and is sending the feed for the correct event. Treat the key as a credential.
The encoder starts or stops the broadcast unexpectedly Review the event’s Auto-start and Auto-stop selections, especially if you reused settings from another stream.
The correct broadcast is live with the wrong program Check the content queued in the encoder against the weekday/weekend calendar before starting the event.
