How to Create a YouTube Live Stream That Loops Product Videos in Order

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To loop product videos in order on YouTube Live, use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source: add the video files in sequence, keep shuffle off, and turn on Loop Playlist. Connect OBS to a YouTube encoder stream with its stream URL and key, then check the preview before going live.

Before you set up the stream

  • Check livestream access. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the prior 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your planned broadcast. YouTube live streaming tips and Manage live stream settings.
  • Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. Match architectures: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC. OBS Project: Media Sources.
  • Prepare the files and rights. Put the videos in the order you want to show them, and use only footage, music, voiceover, and other material you have permission to broadcast. Stream setup does not establish that a particular video is licensed.

Build an ordered, repeating video playlist in OBS

  1. Open OBS Studio and create a scene for the broadcast. Give it a clear name, such as “Product video loop.”
  2. In the Sources panel, select + and choose VLC Video. If that source is missing, confirm VLC is installed and its architecture matches OBS.
  3. Add the product video files to the source playlist in the desired sequence. Check their order in the playlist before proceeding.
  4. Leave Shuffle Playlist disabled so the videos play in sequence. Enable Loop Playlist so the source restarts after it reaches the final media file. OBS describes this source as supporting a playlist and says Loop Playlist restarts it when it runs out of media files. OBS Project: Media Sources.
  5. Size and position the source in the scene. Make sure product details and any text overlays remain readable at the intended viewing size.
  6. Preview the scene and check that playback advances through the files in order and returns to the first one after the last. Listen for audio gaps or abrupt transitions and adjust the media or scene before broadcasting.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream using an encoder.
  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s stream settings. The key is a credential: YouTube says stream keys are like the stream’s password and address, so do not share it or expose it in a recording or screenshot. YouTube: Manage live stream settings.
  3. Choose encoder settings based on the quality you need and the capacity of your upload connection. YouTube’s general recommendations include RTMP or RTMPS, H.264 video, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings for its resolution and bitrate guidance.
  4. Start streaming from OBS. Wait for the Live Control Room preview, then check picture, sound, framing, and stream health before selecting Go live for the scheduled broadcast. YouTube advises checking the preview before starting and testing in advance. YouTube live streaming tips.

YouTube Live carries the program feed OBS sends; YouTube does not select or sequence the source files. The ordered playlist is configured in OBS, and the encoder sends its output to YouTube.

Choose stable output settings

Higher resolution and bitrate require more upload capacity. Start with a resolution and bitrate that your connection can sustain reliably rather than choosing the maximum by default. YouTube recommends testing connection speed and selecting settings appropriate to the connection. A product loop typically needs stable playback, clear product framing, and intelligible audio; use the preview and stream-health indicators to spot problems before the public launch. See YouTube’s encoder recommendations.

OBS is software encoding on a computer. YouTube also lists hardware encoders as an option; a dedicated hardware encoder is not required for the OBS playlist workflow described here. Choose based on your setup and needs. YouTube: Manage live stream settings.

End the broadcast and check the archive

When the loop is finished, end the stream in YouTube, then stop streaming in OBS. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume the same automatic archive outcome for a broadcast lasting 12 hours or longer. YouTube: Manage live stream settings.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • VLC Video is not available as a source: Install VLC and make sure its architecture matches OBS. OBS documents the VLC dependency and the 64-bit pairing requirement. OBS Project: Media Sources.
  • Videos play in the wrong order: Check the playlist sequence in the VLC Video source and leave Shuffle Playlist off.
  • The playlist stops after the final video: Turn on Loop Playlist and confirm the source has the intended files loaded.
  • YouTube does not show the feed: Check that OBS is using the stream URL and key for the correct Live Control Room stream, and that OBS has started streaming. Allow time for the preview to appear, then inspect YouTube’s stream-health status.
  • The stream looks unstable or loses detail: Choose settings your upload connection can sustain. Recheck bitrate, resolution, CBR, and the two-second keyframe interval against YouTube’s current guidance; test the connection and preview before going live.
  • The picture or sound is wrong in preview: Check the OBS scene framing, source playback, audio transitions, and overlays before selecting Go live.
  • Live streaming is unavailable: Verify the channel and check for a live-streaming restriction. If this is the first enablement, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours.
