How to Stream Property Tours Continuously on YouTube With OBS

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To keep a property tour live on YouTube with OBS, send a camera or video feed from OBS to a YouTube Live event, check the preview and stream health, then select Go Live in YouTube Live Control Room. The right setup depends on whether you are showing a live fixed camera, a moving walk-through, or prerecorded footage. If the broadcast must run beyond 12 hours, plan a local recording and manual upload for an archive rather than relying on YouTube to save the whole stream.

Choose the kind of property tour first

OBS encodes and sends video; YouTube Studio manages the broadcast. Before configuring scenes or equipment, decide what OBS will show. A fixed camera can suit a room or property view that does not move. A handheld or gimbal walk-through needs a mobile camera and framing that remains useful as the operator moves. Prerecorded footage is a different workflow: OBS can send a video source, but a continuous loop requires playback automation that should be tested separately. The available guidance does not establish a particular plugin or automation setup for looping tour footage.

  • Fixed live camera: Build a scene around the stationary camera view. YouTube lists webcam streaming as a supported method; that does not make a fixed webcam suitable for a moving tour. YouTube’s live-streaming overview
  • Moving live tour: Use a mobile camera arrangement appropriate to the route and preview the scene while moving. A wide room may not fit a vertical crop the same way it fits a horizontal frame.
  • Prerecorded tour: Add the video source in OBS and verify how it starts, ends, and repeats before broadcasting. Do not assume a source will loop unattended without configuring and testing it.

Prepare OBS and choose stable stream settings

In OBS, create scenes for the tour, a title or holding card, and any transitions you need. Add the relevant camera or video source, check its framing and audio, and set output resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. OBS recommends testing scenes and settings before the first live broadcast. OBS Studio Overview Guide

YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), AAC or MP3 audio, and a two-second keyframe interval; do not exceed four seconds. It lists support for RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1 video, and frame rates up to 60 fps. Its H.264 bitrate recommendations include:

Output YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate
720p at 30 fps 6 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps 10 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps 12 Mbps

These are YouTube’s encoding recommendations, not a guarantee that your internet connection or computer can sustain the settings. Run a speed test, allow upload headroom, and test with audio and movement similar to the actual tour. If the connection or encoder struggles, reduce the target quality until delivery is stable. Create the YouTube event and connect OBS

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream. Enter its title and description, and choose the intended privacy setting.
  2. In the event’s Live Control Room, copy the stream key for that event. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
  3. Enter the matching stream key in OBS’s streaming settings and select the YouTube service/server settings as appropriate. Use the key for the event you created, not an unrelated or outdated key.
  4. Start streaming from OBS. YouTube’s production guide describes starting the encoder first so the Live Control Room can receive the feed and show a preview.
  5. Check that preview, then press Go Live in Live Control Room. OBS sending video alone does not make the event public.

Test the tour before a public broadcast

  • View the stream on a separate phone, computer, or TV so you can judge what viewers actually receive.
  • Check room framing, camera movement, transitions, speech, ambient sound, and any title or holding scene.
  • Use movement and audio representative of the real tour; a static test screen will not reveal every issue.
  • Watch OBS dropped frames and its connection indicator, as well as YouTube’s stream health. OBS notes that rising dropped frames or a yellow/red connection indicator can mean the connection is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate.
  • If the stream is unstable, lower the bitrate or output settings and retest instead of assuming the connection will improve once the broadcast is public.
  • Assign someone to monitor the video, audio, network, and chat during a public property stream.

YouTube specifically advises testing before a live stream and monitoring stream health. YouTube encoder settings · OBS Help Portal

Plan horizontal and vertical viewing before you go live

YouTube supports horizontal and vertical streaming. Its documented dual-stream setup uses a shared stream URL and chat, but vertical format cannot be added after the stream begins. If you plan to use both, preview the layouts beforehand: a vertical crop that works for a presenter may cut off important parts of a wide room or moving property tour. Understand what “continuous” means for the archive

A continuous live broadcast and a complete saved replay are separate requirements. Google’s production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; for streams longer than 12 hours, it advises the production team to record locally and upload the recording manually if an archive is needed. Plan storage and a recording or segment handoff for a run longer than that threshold rather than expecting one YouTube replay to cover an unlimited broadcast. Full Live Production

When ending a broadcast, end it in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed. For a long-running tour, decide in advance who will handle the handoff, where recordings will be stored, and how any replay will be uploaded.

Clear the tour footage and protect privacy

Google’s production guidance says to obtain the necessary clearances for content used in the live stream, rebroadcast, and on-demand audio or video. For a property tour, that means considering permission from the owner or occupants and whether identifying details inside or outside the home are visible or audible. These are practical production considerations, not jurisdiction-specific legal advice; requirements vary by location. Google’s Full Live Production guide

Troubleshoot common OBS-to-YouTube problems

YouTube does not show an OBS preview

  • Confirm OBS is actively streaming and is configured with the stream key for the event currently open in Live Control Room.
  • Check the encoder connection and stream health indicators. If they show connection trouble, reduce the bitrate and test again.
  • Once YouTube receives the feed, wait for its preview before selecting Go Live.

The video drops frames or looks unstable

  • Compare the configured bitrate with the upload connection’s tested capacity; YouTube’s listed bitrate is a recommendation, not a connection guarantee.
  • Lower the bitrate or output resolution/frame rate, then repeat a test with representative movement.
  • Check OBS dropped frames and YouTube stream health while testing, not only after viewers report a problem.

The tour is cropped badly on phones

  • Review the horizontal composition and any vertical version before starting.
  • For dual streaming, design the vertical framing for the tour itself; YouTube does not allow adding the vertical format after the stream has begun.

The replay does not cover the entire long broadcast

  • For a run exceeding 12 hours, use a local recording and plan to upload it manually if you need a complete archive.
  • Check storage capacity and assign responsibility for the recording and upload before the stream starts.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the tour is prerecorded footage that should keep looping on YouTube, StreamNeo is an alternative to leaving OBS and a computer running at home. Upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud; it does not broadcast a live camera feed. Nothing has to stay on at home, and the uploaded video streams at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot. If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo automatically recovers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start your free day.
