You can use the Xbox Accessories app to configure controller buttons and profiles, but the options depend on the controller. Microsoft lists app features including button mapping and profile configuration for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows 10/11. The documented keyboard-key mapping steps apply specifically to the Elite Series 2 and Xbox Adaptive Controller—not universally to every Xbox controller.
Open Xbox Accessories and inspect your controller’s options
- Connect and power on your controller, then open the Xbox Accessories app on an Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or a Windows 10/11 PC.
- Select your controller in the app and open its configuration options. The controls shown can vary by controller, so use the options presented for your model rather than assuming every menu or setting is available to every controller.
- Create or select a profile if that option is available, then adjust the mappings or other settings the app exposes for your controller.
Microsoft lists button mapping and profile configuration among the app’s features for these platforms. Check the current instructions for your specific controller if you need connection help; the available information does not establish one connection method that applies to every model. Remap buttons to keyboard keys on supported controllers
Xbox Wire documents keyboard-key assignment for the Elite Series 2 and Xbox Adaptive Controller. In the app, choose Configure, create a profile or open an existing one, select a button—or a port on the Adaptive Controller—and assign the key for its primary or shift-mode use. The available choices depend on the selected controller and control.

Save and switch profiles on Elite Series 2
On the Elite Series 2, Xbox says you can save up to three custom profiles and one default profile on the controller. Use the controller’s Profile button to switch between them. The documented profile capacity applies to this model; do not assume another controller stores or switches profiles the same way. Xbox Design Lab’s Elite Series 2 page describes this profile feature.
Understand trigger settings versus physical trigger locks
Trigger behavior can involve software settings or physical hardware, and they are not interchangeable. The Elite Series 2 has physical hair trigger locks that shorten trigger travel. These are switches on the controller, separate from any trigger options the app may show.

The official material cited here does not establish a current, universal in-app trigger dead-zone range or a complete trigger-configuration sequence for every controller. If Xbox Accessories displays trigger settings for your model, follow the labels shown there; do not apply a setting or value from a different controller by assumption. What to expect from a standard Xbox controller
Xbox announced button remapping for standard Xbox wireless controllers in a 2015 console update. That announcement describes a historical console rollout; by itself, it does not establish that current Windows options match console options or that standard controllers have every Elite or Adaptive Controller feature. The original Xbox Wire announcement is useful historical context, while the options currently shown for your controller in Xbox Accessories are the practical guide to what you can configure.
