For the most controlled fight, speak with Priestess Gut, follow her to the private chapel, then defeat her before she can call for help. Her promised tadpole cure is actually a Potion of Sleep, and the Brand of the Absolute is optional. You can fight Gut in the main hall instead, but nearby goblins will join the encounter.
Where to find Gut and what to decide first
In Act One, Gut is one of the three goblin leaders in the Shattered Sanctum, alongside Minthara and Dror Ragzlin. The most useful choice before speaking with her is whether to explore dialogue and reach the private chapel, or start a fight in the main hall.

The Brand of the Absolute is optional
Gut offers to brand the party during the initial conversation. Accepting or declining does not stop her from recognizing the party as True Souls, and the brand is not required to reach her chapel. It can provide bonuses with specific branded equipment, so accept it only if you want those benefits. The quest details for asking Gut for help describe the offer and recognition.
Should you let Gut try to remove the tadpole?
No: the promised cure is a Potion of Sleep, not a tadpole treatment. An Arcana check can identify the potion. If a character who is susceptible to it drinks it, they wake chained in the chapel prison. Gut’s line about needing to “fish that thing out” is a lure, not a reliable cure offer. The Find a Cure quest walkthrough and Gut encounter reference document the potion and its effects.

Resistance can change how the scene unfolds. Characters with Fey Ancestry—elves, drow, and half-elves—resist the potion, which makes Gut turn hostile. The encounter reference also notes that a paladin may resist with a Constitution check. If the character is captured, the prison scene offers several ways out rather than ending the run.
How to fight Gut without drawing in the whole camp
Use the private chapel
- Speak with Gut in the Shattered Sanctum and follow her to her private chapel.
- Position party members before engaging so they can deal damage quickly and threaten Gut if she tries to move away.
- Start the fight with enough initiative and burst damage to defeat her before her turn to call for help, or use Silence to prevent the call while she remains in its area.
- If she tries to leave the Silence area, nearby party members may threaten opportunity attacks. Keep the fight contained to the chapel where possible.
This approach can reduce the risk of involving nearby goblins, but it is not a guarantee that every surrounding character will remain neutral in every playthrough. If the fight spills out of the chapel, trader Roah Moonglow and her bodyguards may become hostile. The Gut encounter reference describes both the call for help and the risks of the encounter spreading.

Starting the fight in the main hall
If you attack Gut in the main hall, nearby goblins join the fight. Choose this route if you are prepared for a broader encounter; for an isolated attempt, use the chapel instead.

If your character is captured in the chapel
A captured character wakes chained in the chapel prison. Depending on your character and choices, escape options include using Gut’s key, a Rogue option, an Acrobatics check (DC 12), or a Strength check (DC 20); Barbarians have advantage on the Strength check. If you fail or preserve your strength, Korrilla may rescue you on the documented route. Outcomes can depend on the choices made in the scene.

Do you have to kill Gut to save Halsin?
Killing Gut is the straightforward route for completing Defeat the Goblins. There is also a conditional route to complete the related objectives without killing her, but it relies on a specific order of events:
- Free Halsin, but leave him in the Worg Pens.
- Agree with Minthara to seize the grove.
- Return to Halsin and travel immediately to the Emerald Grove without taking a long rest.
- Side with the Tiefling defenders in the grove battle. The goblin forces must be defeated, and Minthara must be killed or knocked out.
This is an unusual sequence, not a simple substitute for dealing with Gut. The Gut encounter reference documents the conditional no-kill route.

Patch note about Korrilla
Larian’s Patch 7 notes say, “Fixed Korrilla being killable in the goblin camp prison after she kills Priestess Gut.” This describes a specific bug fix; it does not establish the game’s latest version or imply that every prison outcome is identical. Read Larian’s Patch 7 notes.
