To destroy a Vox Engine with its weak-point mechanic, break the three lower glowing heatsinks—two on the rear and one underneath—then throw a grenade into the hatch that opens. The hatch finisher requires a throwable: throwing knives and explosive projectile weapons such as the Autocannon or Grenade Launcher do not work for it, according to the community-maintained Helldivers Wiki.
How to destroy a Vox Engine with the hatch method
- Get an angle on the lower heatsinks. The Vox Engine has several weapons and can threaten players who approach closely. If its guns or nearby enemies make a flank unsafe, use ranged anti-tank attacks instead.
- Destroy the three lower heatsinks. The community-maintained Helldivers Wiki describes six glowing heatsinks: three lower ones on the rear chassis and underside, and three higher ones on the rear torso. Breaking the lower three opens a hatch at the back; breaking the upper three opens a hatch on top.
- Throw a grenade into the open hatch. The wiki says a throwable thrown into either hatch instantly destroys the engine, except for throwing knives. Explosive projectiles, including Autocannon and Grenade Launcher shots, do not trigger this hatch kill.
When to use ranged attacks instead
Closing in to hit heatsinks and throw a grenade is not always practical, especially if several engines or supporting enemies can cover the approach. A guide from GamesRadar notes that the vent route can be harder when multiple engines and enemies are present.

The Helldivers Wiki lists several ranged or component-focused alternatives, but these are community-reported mechanics rather than developer-confirmed guarantees:
- A single MS-11 Solo Silo or EAT-411 Leveller body hit is listed as an outright kill.
- One Orbital Railcannon Strike is listed as an instant kill, but it may hit the engine’s speaker and fail to destroy it in one strike.
- Three Recoilless Rifle shots to the front within 150 metres and two Eagle Strafing Runs are also listed as possible attacks.
- Destroying both Macro-Culverin guns can kill the engine. Taking out the miniguns first can make a flank safer.
- Attacking components or tracks is another option listed by the wiki.
Choose based on range, available weapons and whether enemies can protect the hatch approach. The available guidance does not establish one best weapon for every loadout or combat situation.

Destroying Vox Engines during Intercept Convoy
On a planet where Cyborgs are present, the Intercept Convoy objective can spawn five Vox Engines in place of Factory Striders. Destroy all five before they leave the map. The objective reference recommends long-range anti-tank attacks because the engines patrol across the map; it also reports that they do not appear to engage targets beyond roughly 150 metres. Treat that distance as a community-reported observation, not a guaranteed safe boundary. See the Intercept Convoy reference for the objective details.
Long-range fire can reduce the risk of approaching an engine, while the hatch method offers a throwable-based kill when you can safely reach its weak points. If multiple engines and their escorts can cover one another, avoid forcing a close-range flank.

What the weak points do
The six heatsinks provide two hatch routes: the lower trio opens the rear hatch, while the upper trio opens the top hatch. Either opened hatch can be used for the throwable finisher described by the wiki. This is distinct from simply firing an explosive projectile into the opening; the cited mechanic requires a throwable and excludes throwing knives.
