Fortnite 2FA is managed through your Epic Games account, not Fortnite’s in-game settings. Sign in to the Epic account linked to your Fortnite profile, open Account > Password and security, then use the three-dot menu beside a method and choose Remove Method. To turn 2FA off completely, remove every active method.
Disable 2FA through your Epic Games account
- In a web browser, go to Epic Games account management and sign in to the account you use for Fortnite. Console players should sign in to the Epic account linked to their PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or other platform profile.
- Open the account or profile menu and select Account.
- Choose Password and security.
- Scroll to Two-Factor Authentication and find the method you want to remove.
- Select the three-dot menu beside that method, choose Remove Method, then confirm by selecting Remove.
- Repeat for each remaining active method if you want 2FA fully disabled.
Epic may ask you to verify your identity before letting you open or change security settings. That extra check is expected. Epic documents the removal controls and labels in its 2FA removal instructions. Account-page layout can vary by device or change over time, so look for the labels rather than an old screenshot.
Remove one method, change the primary method, or turn 2FA off?
Epic’s account page lets you manage methods individually. Removing a method stops using that method; if another remains active, Epic may still request its code. To turn off 2FA altogether, remove every active method.
| What you want | What to do |
|---|---|
| Stop SMS codes | Remove the SMS method. If your number changed and you want to keep SMS, set up and verify the new number instead. |
| Stop authenticator-app prompts | Remove the authenticator-app method, or replace it with a method you can access. |
| Stop email codes | Remove the email method, provided another active method is available to use during the change. |
| Keep 2FA but use another method first | With multiple methods enabled, use the three-dot menu and choose Make my primary 2FA method. |
| Disable all 2FA | Remove every active method, including Epic Authenticator, an authenticator app, email, and SMS if listed. |
Epic lists these methods and the primary-method control in its 2FA methods guidance. If you are trying to send a gift or enter a competitive event, removing 2FA is the wrong fix: Epic says 2FA is required for Fortnite gifting and competitive participation, though specific event rules can add their own conditions. Epic also says it is required to claim some free Epic Games Store games. See Epic’s 2FA and feature requirements.

If you are locked out of the account
Do not try to bypass the verification screen. At the 2FA prompt, select Try another way and use a recovery option offered for your account.
Use email verification
- Select Try another way, then choose Email Verification if it is available.
- Enter the code sent to the email address on the Epic account.
- After signing in, open Password and security to remove or replace the inaccessible method.
Use a saved backup code
- At the prompt, select Try another way.
- Choose Enter your Two-Factor verification backup codes.
- Enter one of your saved eight-digit backup codes, then manage your methods in account security settings.
Epic describes email and backup-code recovery in its 2FA lockout instructions. Once you recover access, Epic recommends enabling 2FA again.

If your phone number changed or SMS codes do not arrive
If you can sign in using email verification or a backup code, remove the old SMS method. To keep SMS protection, select Set Up beside SMS 2FA, add the new number, and verify it. If SMS is unavailable or codes are not arriving, use another offered method; availability can depend on region and account circumstances. See Epic’s SMS troubleshooting guidance.
If an email code is missing
- Wait several minutes, then check spam or junk folders and search for Epic’s security email.
- Make sure these Epic email domains are not blocked: support.epicgames.com, accts.epicgames.com, and acct-auth.epicgames.com.
- Check whether your primary method is actually an authenticator app or SMS, then try that method or another recovery option.
- If you no longer control the email address on the account, use Epic’s official account-recovery process rather than seeking a 2FA bypass.
Epic’s email-code troubleshooting page covers delivery and blocked-domain checks.

If the setting is missing or 2FA still appears
- You are in Fortnite’s menus: Account 2FA is changed on Epic’s account website, under Password and security.
- You are signed into the wrong account: Confirm that the Epic account is the one linked to the Fortnite profile. A console-linked account may not be the Epic account you expected. A cached browser session can also open another account; sign out and sign in to the correct one.
- You removed only one method: Check the Two-Factor Authentication section for any other active methods and remove them only if your goal is to turn 2FA off entirely.
- A separate sign-in still asks for a code: Check which Epic account or linked platform you are signing into. Sign out and back in after making the change; a different account may have its own verification settings.
- The account is a child or Cabined Account: Some features are restricted, and SMS-based 2FA may be unavailable. A parent or guardian may need to complete account setup or consent for certain functions. See Epic’s Cabined Account terms.
Removing a security method does not delete Fortnite progress or purchases. If those seem missing, verify that you are signed into the correct Epic account; Epic notes that completing missing account setup does not affect progress or purchases in its account setup guidance.

Treat an unfamiliar method as a possible account-security problem. Recover access through Epic’s official sign-in or support routes, remove methods you do not recognize, change your Epic password, and secure the associated email and linked platform accounts. Review linked accounts and recent activity where available, then enable a method you control. Do not give credentials or verification codes to third-party “2FA remover” services. Epic advises users to sign in only through official Epic websites or apps in its account security guidance.

A safer alternative to disabling 2FA
If prompts are the problem, replace the method you cannot use or change which active method is primary rather than leaving the account unprotected. Epic recommends authenticator apps as its strongest listed option and advises keeping multiple methods enabled where possible. Disabling 2FA reduces protection against account takeover, including when an Epic password or linked platform account is compromised.
