To stop the Baldur’s Gate 3 Script Extender debug console from opening, set CreateConsole to false in ScriptExtenderSettings.json or remove that settings file, then relaunch the game. If you mean cheats or changes already applied to a save, disabling the console or removing a mod does not by itself undo them. Back up your saves before changing mods; a save may depend on the mods with which it was created.
First identify what you mean by “console cheats”
BG3 players may mean either the separate debug window provided by Script Extender or gameplay changes made through a mod. These are different problems: hiding the window stops it from appearing, while disabling a mod stops that mod from loading if removal succeeds. Neither action is documented as a universal way to reverse changes already saved to a character, inventory, stats, or quest state.
- Only want the debug window gone? Change the Script Extender setting described below.
- Want to stop a mod from loading? Use the in-game Mod Manager for supported mods, or follow the PC cleanup guidance for third-party files.
- Want a fully ordinary save? The dependable option is an earlier save from before the changes, if you have one.
Disable the Script Extender debug console
A Nexus Mods guide by CyberSpektre, edited October 16, 2023, documents two ways to prevent the Script Extender console from opening: change its setting or remove the settings file. The guide places ScriptExtenderSettings.json in the game’s bin directory. The change takes effect after you launch the game again. See the Script Extender debug-console guide on Nexus Mods.
- Open the Baldur’s Gate 3 installation folder and locate its
bindirectory. - Open
ScriptExtenderSettings.jsonin a text editor. - Set
CreateConsoletofalse, save the file, and launch the game again. Alternatively, delete the settings file if you no longer need its settings.
Check your current Script Extender setup if the file is absent; the documented procedure depends on that file being present. Removing the console window only changes whether it appears. It does not establish that any effects previously applied through cheats have been reversed.

Disable an official mod in the in-game Mod Manager
For a mod installed through BG3’s supported in-game system, open the game’s Mod Manager and uncheck the installed mod. Larian’s Mod Issues support page recommends disabling mods while troubleshooting and then checking whether the problem remains. Its Official Mod Support page describes the in-game manager and notes that players in modded multiplayer need the same mods at the same version.
Before unchecking a mod on a continuing playthrough, make a separate backup of the save. A save can depend on its mods; disabling one may prevent the save from loading or lead to crashes or other gameplay problems. If the issue is a mod conflict, change one mod at a time and test a copy of the save where possible, rather than removing everything at once.

Remove third-party mods on PC cautiously
Larian’s PC troubleshooting guidance identifies the installation’s Mods and Public folders and, in some cases, the profile’s modsettings.lsx file as places to check when removing third-party mods. The Windows profile is under local AppData, not Documents. The launcher can open the installation and profile folders. Larian also describes an altered-files log in the launcher cache that can help investigate mismatch warnings. Consult the current Larian Mod Issues instructions for the paths and guidance applicable to your setup.
- Back up your saves and note which mods the save used before deleting or moving files.
- Identify the relevant mod files rather than deleting folders blindly. Larian’s guidance says to remove existing mod files when troubleshooting, particularly after a major game update.
- Only consider deleting the profile’s
modsettings.lsxwhen the support guidance applies to your setup; Larian’s page qualifies this advice for players not using a new profile for the current patch.

On console, do not use PC file-removal steps
PC folder paths and file instructions do not apply to console editions. Larian’s December 4, 2024 notice discussed a specific fix for a console mod-limit issue, not a universal cheat reset. It warned that choosing not to re-subscribe to mods used by a save may cause crashes or other gameplay issues. See Larian’s console mod-limit notice for that issue’s context.

Removing the mechanism and undoing its past effects are separate tasks. The sources above describe disabling the Script Extender console or removing mods, but do not establish a universal rollback for changes already saved into a playthrough. If you want a state from before cheats or mods were used, load a known clean earlier save. If none exists, preserve a backup and treat any attempt to repair the current save as case-specific; removing its dependencies can make it unstable or unusable.
