Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →To show the song title and artist on a YouTube radio stream made in OBS, use Tuna with a playback source it supports. Configure Tuna to write metadata to a text file, then add that file as an OBS text source. Tuna reads metadata supplied by a supported player or integration; it does not identify arbitrary audio just by listening to it.
The right setup depends on what is playing the music: YouTube Music, VLC, a browser player, or a playlist mixed from other sources. YouTube Music has a documented Tuna integration, but an ordinary YouTube video or your stream’s own metadata is not automatically queried as now-playing information.
Choose the path that matches your music source
| What plays the music | Documented Tuna path | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Music | Select Web browser as Tuna’s music source, enable its local web server, and enable the Tuna plugin in the YouTube Music application. | This is the documented YouTube Music route. Available fields depend on the integration and the metadata provided. |
| VLC media source in OBS | Select VLC in Tuna, refresh or select the scene and VLC source, then add it. | The Tuna guide specifies VLC 3.0.0 or later and says its described setup does not support VLC sources inside groups or otherwise nested. |
| Other supported players or services | Choose the matching Tuna source in its settings. | Documented options include Spotify, MPD, MPRIS, Windows Media Control, window title, last.fm, and Icecast. Tuna’s repository also lists browser-player integrations including SoundCloud, Spotify Web Player, Deezer, Yandex Music, and Pretzel.rocks through a Tampermonkey script. Check the project instructions for the current integration steps. |
| Audio with no supported metadata source | No automatic title-and-artist route is established by these integrations. | You may need to provide metadata another way; Tuna is not a general-purpose audio recognition tool. |
For an independently mixed playlist, first identify which player or service is actually producing each track and whether it exposes metadata. A single overlay cannot reliably show fields that its selected source does not provide.
Set up the simplest display: a title-and-artist text line
- Check compatibility and install Tuna. The OBS resource page lists OBS Studio 28.0.0 as the minimum and lists Windows and Linux. On Windows, its instructions describe running the installer or extracting the plugin’s
dataandobs-pluginsfolders into the OBS installation directory. On Debian-based Linux, the resource offers an installer; other Linux installations may require building from source or manual extraction, which the resource warns may not work on every distribution. It reports that Flatpak OBS may not load the plugin and limits support for that packaging. These are the resource’s compatibility statements, not a guarantee for every current OBS build; check the project’s current install and release information before installing. - Confirm Tuna loaded. Open OBS and look for Tuna under Tools. If it is missing, OBS may not have loaded the plugin or it may be installed in the wrong location. Check the OBS log when troubleshooting.
- Select the playback source in Tuna. Open Tuna’s settings or Basics area and choose the source that matches the music player. For YouTube Music, the documented route is Web browser, with Tuna’s local web server enabled and the Tuna plugin enabled in YouTube Music. For VLC, use the VLC-specific steps in the table above.
- Set an output file and format. In Tuna’s settings, configure the path where it should save the metadata and enter the desired format. The documented title-and-artist example is
{artists} - {title}. Tuna writes the formatted text to the file for OBS to read. - Add an OBS text source that reads the file. In the scene where the radio display belongs, add a text source and enable its option to read from a file. Select the output file configured in Tuna, then position and style the text in the scene.
- Test a track change. Start playback and check that the title and artist appear and change as expected. The field names and formatting supported can vary by source; a blank artist may mean the source did not supply one rather than an OBS display problem.
Add album or cover art
Tuna can save cover art for an OBS image source. Configure its cover-art output, then add an image source in OBS that points to the saved file. Whether art is available depends on the playback source and its metadata; missing artwork is not necessarily a rendering fault.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use a styled browser overlay instead
If a plain text line and image do not fit the design, the community project NowPlayingRevamped-universal documents a browser overlay with album art, artist and title, a progress bar, animations, and customization. It is a community project, not an official Tuna distribution.
- Install and configure OBS and Tuna, then configure Tuna to save the title, first artist, and cover-art files as described in that project’s README.
- Enable Tuna’s local web server; the README’s example uses port 1608.
- Run a local web server to serve the overlay files. The documented setup names Simple Web Server.
- Add the served overlay URL to OBS as a Browser Source. The README’s example uses a 500 by 150 source and recommends refreshing it when its scene becomes active.
This documented overlay route requires Windows because it uses Windows Media Control, as well as Tuna and a local web server. If multiple browser sources play at once, Windows Media Control may show the source that became active most recently and may not return to an earlier source until a track-change event.

Fix common now-playing problems
- Tuna is not listed under Tools: Check that the plugin files are in the correct OBS installation directory and inspect the OBS log for a loading error. Flatpak OBS has a reported loading limitation in the Tuna resource.
- The title or artist is blank: Confirm that the selected Tuna source matches the active player and that the player provides the missing field. Not every source supports every format option.
- VLC metadata does not appear: Confirm VLC is version 3.0.0 or later, and use a VLC source that is not grouped or nested for the setup described by Tuna’s guide.
- A local filename includes an unwanted extension: VLC may use the filename as the title when file metadata is absent. Tuna’s option to remove extensions may help avoid displaying endings such as
.mp3,.wav, or.flac. - The browser overlay shows the wrong player: With multiple browser sources active, Windows Media Control may retain the most recently active source until a track-change event. Check the overlay project’s simultaneous-source limitation and avoid assuming that every active player can be tracked independently.
- Spotify updates slowly or login fails: Check the current Tuna version and service availability. The setup guide mentions API availability or rate limiting and login cookies, but its dated Spotify instructions may not reflect current authentication behavior.
