To send a Kannada radio station’s online feed to YouTube Live, play the station audio through an encoder such as OBS, connect the encoder to a YouTube stream using its server URL and stream key, check the preview, and select Go live in YouTube’s Live Control Room. First confirm you have permission to rebroadcast the station: a publicly accessible radio feed is not automatically cleared for YouTube.
Before you set up the stream
- Get the exact station stream URL. Ask the station for its direct online feed address rather than assuming the URL of its website or player is the audio endpoint.
- Get permission for YouTube rebroadcasting. Confirm permission for the platform and territory where you plan to broadcast, and ask whether the station or rights holder must add your channel to a Content ID allowlist.
- Test the feed in your chosen encoder. A radio URL may use a format or endpoint that a particular source cannot decode. OBS documents common media formats and a VLC-based source, but does not guarantee that every live station URL will work.
- Prepare a visual. YouTube Live expects a video stream. Use a still image, station logo, or other visual you are authorized to use alongside the audio.
If this is your first YouTube live broadcast, enable live streaming in your account settings ahead of time. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours.
How to add a radio stream to OBS
1. Create a scene and add the audio source
- Open OBS and select or create a scene for the broadcast.
- Add an audio source that can open the station’s exact stream URL. OBS’s Media Source documentation lists MP3, AAC, OGG, and WAV files. For extended media support, OBS also provides a VLC Video source that uses VLC libraries and has a network-caching setting. Whether either approach can play your live station feed depends on its format and endpoint; verify the actual URL in your setup.
- Watch the OBS audio mixer while the source is playing. Confirm that the station’s audio is present and at a usable level.
If OBS cannot open the feed directly, test the URL with the VLC-based source and its network-caching option. Another possible approach is to play the feed in a separate player and capture that application’s audio in OBS. Whichever route you use, confirm the sound in OBS and again in YouTube’s preview before broadcasting.
2. Add an authorized visual
- Add an image source for a station logo, still image, or other visual you have permission to display.
- Arrange the scene so the visual appears in the output and the audio source stays active.
- Preview the scene. The final broadcast should show the intended visual while the station audio plays.
3. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, create a stream or select an existing one.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s streaming settings. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send content to your stream.
- Choose YouTube’s RTMPS ingest option when your encoder supports it. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension to RTMP.
4. Set and verify encoder settings
Use settings your upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s recommended video bitrate varies by codec, resolution, and frame rate, so consult its current encoder settings guidance for the specific output you choose. For a typical stereo audio stream, YouTube recommends AAC or MP3, constant bitrate encoding, a 44.1 kHz sample rate, and 128 kbps audio.

- Video codec: YouTube lists H.264, H.265, and AV1 for video ingest.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says it should not exceed four seconds.
- Ingest: Use RTMPS for the standard encoder workflow. HLS is a separate ingest option for encoders that support it; use it only when there is a specific compatibility reason.
5. Test, go live, and end the broadcast
- Start streaming from OBS and wait for the YouTube preview in Live Control Room.
- Check that the right station audio is audible, the visual is present, and YouTube reports acceptable stream health. Test with the real audio and visual content you intend to broadcast, and monitor stream health while live.
- When the preview is correct, select Go live in Live Control Room.
- When finished, select End Stream in Live Control Room and stop sending content from OBS. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived.
Can you broadcast a Kannada radio station’s live stream?
Technically, it is possible if your encoder can decode the station’s actual feed and you can send the resulting video stream to YouTube. Rights are a separate question: a station’s feed being free to listen to online does not prove that you may rebroadcast it on YouTube, and this guide cannot determine the rights for a particular station, territory, or licence.
YouTube says its live streams are scanned for third-party content, including another live broadcast. If it detects such content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the operator; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated. A licence alone may not prevent that interruption. For licensed third-party content, YouTube advises asking the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

Why OBS may not play the station URL
- The URL is a web page, not the feed. Ask the station for the direct stream URL and test that exact address.
- The endpoint or format is unsupported by the selected source. Try OBS’s VLC-based source, which uses VLC libraries for extended media support, and test its network-caching setting. Compatibility still depends on the station’s particular feed.
- The source opens but no sound reaches the output. Check that the source is active and that its level appears in the OBS mixer; then verify audio in YouTube’s preview.
- YouTube has no preview or reports a stream problem. Confirm the server URL and stream key are from the intended Live Control Room stream, check the encoder’s output settings, and wait for YouTube’s preview before selecting Go live.
- The broadcast is interrupted after it starts. YouTube may have detected third-party material. Resolve permissions with the station or rights holder and confirm whether Content ID allowlisting is required.
