Use the classic motion input: press down, down-forward, forward + punch (↓ ↘ → + punch). Make the directions one continuous quarter-circle motion, and press punch as you reach forward. If your character faces left, reverse the horizontal directions: ↓ ↙ ← + punch.
Hadouken input, step by step
- Start at down on the directional pad or joystick.
- Roll through down-forward.
- Reach forward and press a punch button at the same time.
Capcom’s Street Fighter V Ryu move list spells the move “Hadoken” and shows the classic command. Capcom’s command tutorial explains the directional motion as one unified input. The arrows above assume your character faces right.
Make the motion register
- Keep it continuous. Move through the directions without a long pause. Capcom says the command must be completed within a time window; aim for a relaxed, flowing motion rather than rushing or pounding the controls.
- Time the punch with forward. Press punch as you reach the final forward direction, rather than well before or after it.
- Check which way you face. Facing left reverses the horizontal directions, so use down, down-left, left + punch.
- Check your game’s move list. The documented sequence is for Street Fighter V’s command material and is the classic motion input, not a guarantee of identical controls in every installment or control scheme.
If the Hadouken does not come out
First try the motion slowly and continuously, making sure you pass through the diagonal and press punch with the last direction. If the input works on one side but not the other, reverse left and right when your character changes facing. If it still fails, consult the in-game command list for your specific Street Fighter game and control scheme.
An official Street Fighter II manual also documents a directional-pad motion followed by punch, but it does not establish controls for every later release.
