The easiest way to download a BeamNG.drive mod is to find it in the game’s Repository and select Subscribe. To install a mod downloaded through a browser, keep it as a ZIP file and place it in the mods folder inside your current BeamNG.drive user folder.
Choose how to download the mod

BeamNG’s official installation guide describes Repository subscriptions as supporting automatic updates when the author updates a mod. For the fewest file-management steps, use the in-game Repository.
Install a mod from the in-game Repository
- Open the Repository from the main menu or sidebar.
- Search or filter for a mod. Review its listing, including its date.
- Select Subscribe. The game downloads and activates the mod.
To browse through a web browser instead, use Subscribe to open the game and install the listing, or View ingame to open it in the game. Choose Download Now only if you want to handle the downloaded file yourself.
Install a downloaded ZIP manually
- Download the mod’s ZIP file. Do not extract it. ZIP archives are the standard mod format, and they work without being unpacked.
- Open the BeamNG.drive user folder, then open the folder for the current game version.
- Open the
modsfolder. If it does not exist, create a folder namedmods. - Move or copy the ZIP into that folder.
- Launch BeamNG.drive and check the in-game Mods Manager to confirm the mod appears.
The BeamNG installation guide notes that a mod should appear in the Mods Manager when its archive is packaged correctly. Installed mods can be managed, enabled, disabled, or updated there. Vehicles and levels appear in their respective selectors when available.

Find the BeamNG.drive user folder
The user folder is separate from the game’s installation folder. It stores personal files, including mods, so putting a ZIP in the game installation directory is not the manual installation method.
- Windows: Open the BeamNG launcher and choose Manage User Folder → Open in Explorer.
- Linux: The documented default is
~/.local/share/BeamNG/BeamNG.drive/current. If you changed the user-folder location, use the configured location instead.
The official support guide documents the Windows launcher path and Linux default. Inside the relevant user folder, put manual mod ZIPs in mods.

Choose safe, compatible mods
- Prefer trusted sources. BeamNG recommends caution with downloads from the internet, especially from sites you do not trust, and advises using up-to-date antivirus software. The Official Repository and Official Forum are the recommended places to look.
- Check the file type. ZIP is the standard mod format. EXE files and similar formats will not work as mods as-is and may conceal malicious software; do not run an executable just because a site labels it a mod.
- Check the mod’s date and game compatibility. Older mods may be outdated or broken. BeamNG’s installation guide and beginner guide advise choosing current mods compatible with your game version.
- Limit active mods if conflicts arise. BeamNG Support’s 2021 guide says it does not recommend using more than 20–30 active mods at once because some may conflict. This is publisher guidance, not a guarantee that a particular number will work safely with every mod collection or system.
Fix a mod that does not show up
- Confirm the location. For a manual install, make sure the ZIP is inside
modsin the current-version user folder—not the game installation folder. - Keep the archive compressed. The mod should remain a ZIP; do not unpack it before placing it in
mods. - Check for packaging problems. A wrongly packed archive may not appear in the Mods Manager.
- Check age and compatibility. The mod may be outdated, broken, or incompatible with the current game version.
- Ask the mod’s author or users who have installed it if these checks do not resolve the problem.
Mods are community-created and may develop problems after major game updates. BeamNG’s FAQ says community mods are not officially supported; see the BeamNG support page for its guidance.

The mods directory is inside the user folder, whose location can be customized. If you cannot find it, use the launcher’s Manage User Folder option on Windows, or check the user-folder location you configured. On Linux, the default is ~/.local/share/BeamNG/BeamNG.drive/current.
